Could Collins actually play SF? (I might have just smoked a morning bowl)

I think he's just experimenting. Harkless is a better fit in the starting lineup, he's just a better player period. Evan is just not a good player. His shot sucks, he's not even that good at taking it to the hoop. He's decent defender, he's an ok ball handler and passer, but he can't run the point. I call him the Mason Plumlee of SFs.

What a terrible signing. His 18 million dollar contract is going to make it very hard for this team to have any kind of depth aside from rookies and guys getting the minimum.
Agreed, I'd start Collins. He looks really mobile-- I like the combo with Nurk and Hark.

Start Dame/CJ/Moe/Collins/Nurk
off bench: Turner/Aminu/Caleb/Davis

The lack of wing shooter off the bench is glaring.
Yep, we need to trade at some point for a wing/SG that can shoot/score off the bench

There's just no way Connaughton is better than all the guys that will be available after cut down day.

Yes, we're very thin at the guard position. We have McCollum, Lillard and Napier. They might be forced to play Turner at guard at times, but I don't think he's very good at that role.

I'd think Ed Davis would be an attractive trade piece, especially with his apparent resurgence.

Ah Courtney Lee is a good one. And we can probably get him for just our TPE.

But I want to send out some salary too.

Ed + Meyers for Wes. Who says no?
Ha, getting back Wesley Matthews would be awesome, would Dallas do that?

I wondered if Collins was going to even be in the regular rotation, but last night, he looked like a really strong canidate to start. I think he'll be starting soon if he keeps playing D like that. And we haven't even seen his offensive skills yet.

I don't think our 2nd round picks (Layman and Pat) are worth more than a future 2nd rounder. For what they offer, there are plenty of vet minimum free agents who actually play better.

I think one of Aminu or Davis is likely gone via trade, to get us under the LT. Davis started, seems like maybe showcasing him - proving he's healthy and able.

I just hope what I think will happen, doesn't actually happen; Olshey waiting until the deadline. We need to get off to a fast start, and the weakness of this team is so evident, we don't need another four months to evaluate it.

Good:
Dame looks in mid-season form.
Nurkic is noticeably quicker.
Collins has immediate impact on D.
Biggie has nice range....wish we could combine his shooting with Vonleh's explosiveness. Both have a nose for the ball.
Briscoe has 'something'....not sure I can pinpoint it yet but I like him.

Bad:
This team is DYING for a Small Forward.
Aminu/Harkless/Layman (see above)
Pat should really have stuck to baseball

What did you dislike about Harkless? I thought he was solid in his time. The moment he came in for Turner in the 1st, the Blazers dominated. Turner belongs in your "bad" section, but I don't see why Harkless would.

Harkless seem more confident in there he made plays he should start at SF. Collins look good at defense but sometimes look little lose on the offense end. But that could be the speed of the game but it will slow down for him. Overall I believe he will be the starting 4 in the future. I want see how these rookies due when we play Toronto Thurs. it be a good test for them.

Layman shoots the sweetest looking bricks I’ve ever seen. Great form. Maybe he’ll get his touch down at some point? Or maybe he needs new contacts?

Fair enough. Was more a comment on the position as a whole. Harkless was by far the best of the 3 but I still think it's an ongoing issue into the season.

I think it is safe to say this this is a dramatically different team when Nurk is on/off the court, but I just don't see him playing more than 30 minutes because of foul trouble. He is aggressive and I don't really think the refs are going to warm up to him. So that is a concern. But he looked like Marc Gasol out there last night with his passing, outside shot. and D.

Collins still looked a little weak on his few post up attempts but I do love his potential to cover multiple types of PF's. (Perimeter and Post) He does seem to be a good fit next to Nurk. More so than Swanigan. Caleb played very well but I have also done a 360 on him starting. He is so thick I just can see him getting out to the shooter on the perimeter that I think Collin can. And We need Caleb's scoring off the bench.

And I agree with all of you....we need a 3 & D guy off the bench. I would use Aminu as part of the deal.

Until then I want to see what a Napier, ET, Layman,, Swanigan, and ED combination can do. People bitch that Napier shoots too much, but I welcome it.

It is a bit frustrating. I wonder how he looks in practice.

More reason for nervousness: Stotts emphasized that Harkless and Aminu play well together. Personally, I want Harkless starting and Aminu not starting...

So we're finally getting off the Harkless bandwagon now?

I am pretty sure he also tried a combo of Harkless, Aminu, and ET to start the 2nd qtr.....with I think Pat and Meyers. Not a good idea. Although both Meyers and ET hit a 3 during that time, there is just not enough shooters.

The Harkless-Aminu combo worked ok 2 years ago with Dame and CJ, because of their ability to switch defensively. They got out and pressed and created turnovers. But I don't see that much anymore.

Look at his agility. Seven footers aren't supposed to move like that.

I agree. Defensively he is probably just as good as any PF we have right now (who is healthy) with his ability to cover space, that we might as well start him and hope his growing pains are minimal. We need ED's toughness with the 2nd unit, and Swanigan offense with the 2nd unit. That leaves Aminu who just frustrates me too much.

Good:

Nurkic- Looks more agile.

Dame/CJ- duh

Collins- great feet. Can play PF. Advanced defensively. Love the idea of him next to Nurk.

Swanigan- would fit well with the starters. Ability to stretch the court is huge. Goes after every rebound.

Briscoe- handcuffed yet still made an impact. Gamer. I want him to get a chance to actually run the offense, not just hand off to dumb and dumber.

Bad

Dumb and Dumber- The two idiots from Massachusetts. Jesus Christ. Connaughton can't move. Layman can't shoot. Dumb play after dumb play with the offense running through these two. Biggest reason Phoenix came back.

Aminu/Turner- their jumpers are going to drive everyone crazy again. We'll need Turner on the second unit. I do like his post ups.

I navigated over to S2 to say everything you just said. So now I guess I'll just add my two cents: I agree.

I'm not convinced at all that Pat and Layman can replace Crabbe. Neil still needs another shooter.
You honestly thought they COULD at some point? Man i was not cool with giving up AC like that the moment that trade went down. AC did a great job at what he was put in there to do. Spread the floor.

Crabbe's shooting has already been replaced.... with Swanigan.
