Crabbe's shooting has already been replaced.... with Swanigan.

Swanigan is a catch and shoot guy, not someone that can come off screens, etc. spot up guys are easier to defend. Once teams figure out that Swanigan can shoot, things will get a little tougher. We need a shooter that can move off the ball.

Idk if Morrow is that guy. He looked pretty...slow. I know connaughton ain't that guy. Layman actually moves well off the ball but he can't shoot.

Honestly, I'd rather see Layman emulate Harkless' game, and just become a paler poor-man's version of him off the bench.

Robert Covington is a guy I’ve thought would do well on this team. Finished 4th in defensive player of the year and shot 33% from 3 last year with much worse looks then he would get here. Sixers picked up his option but did not agree to an extension so he will
be a free agent next year.

If the sixers roll with Fultz, Reddick, and Simmons he could be coming off the bench and maybe available for trade. If not, we should start the recruiting pitch now.

Not a bad plan.
Harkless is good at finishing at the rim. Layman can do that.
Harkless is a good defender but I would not say he excels at it. I think Layman has the tools to be a decent defender.
Harkless is an adequate 3 pt shooter when wide open. You would think Layman could do that, but so far.......
Harkless averaged 4.4 rebounds last year in 29 minutes. I think he can get close to those numbers
Harkless is a sub par ball handler. Layman is already better there.

Yeah, but Swanigan is a PF, so he's going to be guarded by other bigs and won't need to race around screens. If his man doesn't come out to guard him, he gets an open 3, if he stays close to Swanigan, it opens up the lane for Dame, CJ, Nurk to operate in the paint.

Will we be able to offer him more than taxpayer MLE?

I’m not a great cap guy but I think we would be heading into 2018-19 season with 109.7 mil on the books with a salary cap estimated at 102 mil and a 124 mil luxury tax.

So if we trade or choose not to resign Connaughton, Vonleh, Napier, and wait to resign Nurkić we would be at 97.4 mil on the books. Not enough to make a big time offer. BUT if we trade Aminu for cap space we would be down to 90.4 mil and could offer a much better contract starting at 12 mil for the first year and increasingly more the next however many years.

I forgot Connaughton’s contract is only guaranteed for this year so we would be closer to 91.2 mil with dealing Aminu. Still enough to offer around 11 mil for the first year and I think up to 13 or 14 mil the second year.

-It's important to remember that Biggie made some mistakes out there. It's understandable, but we can't risk our opening games by inserting him into the starting lineup. Let him be the only talented guy off the bench.

-Collins looks like a soldier in a WW-II movie. It's totally the haircut and attitude to beat everyone's ass on the first day even though he's just a scrawny 19 yr old. He's growing on me :-) *misses a layup later tipped in by Nurkic* ---> *looks up to the sky* "FUCKKK!!!!"

-Turner aka "The broken Swiss army knife" should come off the bench as his abilities are not needed alongside 3 talented players like cj,Dame and Nurk. I would get rid of him altogether if i could.

-Still too many damn placeholders on the team, a scoring guard off the bench is essential if we want our bench to survive.

-DO YOU BELIEVE IN BIEBS?!

Agreed. When Collins gets a little more muscle....

Thanks, saved me the reply.

You honestly thought they COULD at some point? Man i was not cool with giving up AC like that the moment that trade went down. AC did a great job at what he was put in there to do. Spread the floor.

No, I didn't. I haven't been on the Layman/Patty bandwagon at all. I was hoping the trade of AC was signaling another move, and that it wasn't just a cost cutting move.... but it clearly was.

I'm surprised we didn't see more of Morrow out there. He is the best shooter of the new guys and the one who's tools we have the most need for.

Nurk will be restricted and we can go over the cap to sign our own players.

We can offer max money.

I’m pretty sure my numbers account for that. It should still be around 91 mil on the books even without adding resigning Nurk.

I don't think Swanigan can replace Crabbe's shooting, but maybe he can replace his scoring, and do so just as efficiently.

Swanigan continues to show he can knock down open jump shots, but he also gets hustle points off offensive rebounds and broken plays. I doubt if he sees 28+ MPG at the beginning of the season, but as his PT increases, I could see him scoring 10 points per 28 minutes played.

We still at least need the threat of someone who can knock down an open 3 to help space the floor with the second unit. If Morrow can come close to shooting his career average 3FG%, he may be that guy. He already has a reputation as a lights out 3-point shooter. So unless his shot has completely abandoned him, other teams just won't leave him wide open camped out at the 3-point line.

I could see Morrow and Swanigan working well together on the second unit. Morrow for spacing, but Swanigan as our leading scorer (and rebounder) off the bench.

What I have not seen mentioned is the oh-so-critical performance of Calabro and Hurd.

Personally, I found them both to be less annoying that I had remembered.

So...improved?

I was never bothered by them. Calabro is a hall of famer. They sounded pretty damned professional last night.

Hell yea he did. But I’m glad he’s gone not because he’s weak or anything but bc he was so hated on here.

I’m telling you Crabbe is going to be missed very much. He was the 3rd best 3 point shooter in the league on TONS of attempts.

Crabbe would have been perfect on this team still

Thing about Wes is that the Mavs don't really have any other defensive SGs. They have Seth Curry but then nobody else. So they'd want an actual SG in return. If it was Evan Turner, then hallelujah, but somehow I doubt it.

You know who's stacked with SGs? Denver. Maybe we could get Will The Thrill back! (They love Gary Harris and they have no incentive to trade Murray yet.)
