...the 1931 Yankees scored 1,067 runs, had a run differential of +307, and a W-L record of 100-53.

...they also led the league in batting average (.297), home runs (155), on base average (.380), slugging average (.457), and stolen bases (138).

Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig tied for the home run championship with 46 each. Gehrig set the all-time American League record RBI record with 184.

The Yankees won 14 games by at least 10 runs, including beating the Detroit Tigers 20-8, the Cleveland Indians 19-2 and 18-1, the Chicago White Sox 22-5, and the St. Louis Browns 17-0.

...but the most amazing stat is that this team finished 13 1/2 gamed out of first place !

They were actually 94-59 and their pythagorean was 100-53. That being said the Philadelphia A's had an absurd year. Lefty Grove had 31 wins and two others had over 20.

Stats wise certainly a very odd year. The Yankees should've won more games than they did if you follow the sabermetrics model.

Great stuff 59, keep up the good work....! I'd love to see another Team of Bronx Ballistic Bombers...! Love the Nostalgia...!!!

...in the 1905 World Series, the Giants' Christy Mathewson, Joe McGinnity, and Red Ames combined to pitch every inning (45), of every game (5) ...In winning the WS that year, the 3 of them had a combined ERA of 0.00 ...yup.

...another trip down nostalgia lane...Yanx first home game;

Matthewson has always been the #1 - Pitcher; Idol of mine, since I was a kid. The greatest SP ever to play the game, IMHO...

Keith Olberman had some glass sepia negatives, of the 1905, and 1911 World Series, mostly of Matthewson on the mound.... he revealed these on his show 2 months ago, which have never been seen by the public til now. Keith purchased them a few months ago, Not sure where he said he found and bought the collection, tho' they belong in the HOF or Smithsonian.

I love this kind of stuff/nostalgia/history, I can eat this stuff or breakfast lunch and dinner, thanks for the smorgasbord...!

Here's some additional trivia Iin italics) - I just read about today: on Johnny Van Demeer's 2nd consecutive No-Hitter. It was June 15th, 1938, and the 1st ever Night Game in NY, at Ebbets Field....the very next day, Larry McPhail would hire Babe Ruth as the Bums 1st base coach...

I can't get enough of reading Christy's Lifetime stats: I got to look this over at least every 2 months or so:

meant to say, that's got to be a unbreakable, un-duplicated feat/record....a 0.00 combined ERA for a W.S. Pitching Staff, as well as a W.S. using only 3 SP's.... F'n AMAZING....! It doesn't get better than this nostalgia...!
