Oden 100% healthy

I say fifty-fifty he stays healthy enough to play 65 games this year (good over-under predictiion for whoever came up with it), if he does in fact stay healthy my expectations are somewhat modest (compared to some of you other mofos). 14 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in 28 min/game.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did...but on the other hand, I also wouldn't be surprised if he had another significant injury. Neither eventually would be unexpected to me. I think he has a solid chance to do either (unfortunately, in the second case).
that would be my take on every player who logs significant minutes... hoops is a rough game and few players are able to go year after year without suffering a setback

what really won't surprise me is if Andre plays well with Greg

STOMP

For reference, last year Greg averaged
11.1 PPG/8.5 RPG/2.3 BPG in 21 MPG (according to http://www.nba.com/playerfile/greg_oden/index.html?nav=page )

For 32 MPG, these become
16.9 PPG/13.0 RPG/3.5 BPG in 32 MPG

so I'm going to go with 17/13/3 in 32 MPG

The blocks won't exactly scale up as fewer will head toward the basket.

(edit: which, interestingly, is basically what BrianFromWa said.)

btw, I think that if he is able to play 32 MPG for 70+ games, we are definite title contenders.

Your minutes are wrong.

Interesting. High hopes, I can't blame you. Upside would be nice to Oden. I just don't think after what's happened to his knee, that he is 100% healthy ever. It's hard for a player like that to come back and stay strong 8-10 years in the league after what's he's gone through, IMO.

Of course, you watch a 3 minute youtube of Durant and you see a lot of great offensive shots and 3-point baskets and maybe even a dunk or block.

You watch [video=youtube;1Qd-m1Ju24g] and you can't help but shake your head and think, my god, if 100% again for more then 70 games, what can stop the Blazers. That is frightening.

Hello, my name is Gregory Wayne Oden, Junior. You killeda my kneecap. Prepare to die.

I'm jumping in late but I land on the side of one of the Greatest Movies of All Time.

HCPs video really reminds me that we need Greg to be both healthy and happy. He plays a lot better when the world isn't on his shoulders. I'm more optimistic than others.

Whoever made that video is a FUCKING GENIUS! I'm mean that was AWESOME!

I am very nervous for Greg! I just want him to stay healthy. I'll take 0pts/12rebs/ and 3blks!

The world will always be on his shoulders for as long as he is in Portland. Every fan will be holding their breath every second he is in. It's not bad to be optimistic but proceed with caution. Unfortunately this is something we are use to by now.

Part of the optimism is due to the type of injuries. He has not had any injuries that are the type to continue to cause problems, nor has he had the same injury twice. I know you did not watch a bunch of him last year, but as you can tell from those that did, he really is one hell of a player. A lot of us are also worried about his health as one more serious injury will could mean the end of him. Ever time he is out, it's harder to come back mentally, and each time he is injured, the more we worry that he just has bad bones (although no medical reports back this up).

But, if he can manage to play, he will absolutely be one of the top centers in the league, and if he can manage 3 seasons in a row of 70+ games, he will be the best Center in the league. He just has too much natural ability mixed with insane athleticism and strength. But all that is up in the air till he proves he is can handle the riggers of the NBA.

If he can stay healthy next year. 14/13/3.5. in 32min. I see his points going down a bit if the rest of the team stays healthy and he will be asked to concentrate on rebounding and defense.

I would bring Oden back slowly just in case. No need to hurry up the process in the regular season. 30+ might be too much right now, but for a key playoff series I understand.

I think I'm most excited about cho being on board because I am pretty sure he will be able to help Greg the most when it comes to injuries. [video=youtube;SzO7Eo0xeQ0]

Do you think he'll make the all-star team?

I doubt it his first year back after this injury. A lot of times it's the next year a player gets reward too even if he does well all year.

It is good and a Greg Oden block party video without the Sepia coloring would confirm the video editing genius of the anonymous poster of that video.

Duncan is one year older, Bynum is just as injury prone and Nene isn't as good. Only Yao is better in the west. Well kaman is good too I suppose. I think Greg has a good shot with the usual caveat, health.

Ya, if he's healty and starts out in shape he just might do it.

We need to show ourselves as an elite team to bolster his chances. If he's healthy (god I hate qualifying all the time, but I hate morons saying "but he's always injured!" more) then I think that is likely as well. I think he has a great shot if he comes in guns blazing and injury free.

I just flat out miss watching Greg play. He's a great player. Super, super entertaining. I just want Nate to figure out a way to make the offense more fluid with him, Roy and Miller on the floor together.

there's no way. by the time all-star voting is under way, Greg will just be starting to get back into the swing of things coming back from major injury. next year is the absolute earliest, and obviously a lot would have to go right for that to happen. this year we should just be hoping for an injury free year, no need to even think about the all-star game.

Last year, I could understand people being upbeat over Oden. Hell, I even got caught up in it a bit myself. But now? People need to put down the kool-aid and the crack pipe.

Maybe I am just in a bad mood today, but do you know what I would like to see? I would like to see the RG crowd act like Oden is invisible. Just sit on their hands and not acknowledge him in any way until he plays at least 60 games. Send a message to Cho, Miller, Allen, et al - NO MORE EXCUSES!

Right and then if he does stay healthy and puts in a couple of All-Star years and decides to go elsewhere due to that randomly petty and vindictive act (assuming you had the power to make that happen), you'd hate him for leaving the team, probably the same way you hate Bill Walton.

I think you just like being angry. ;)
