Greg Oden is suffering from what the team called a "left abductor contusion," which is an inner thigh injury. GO was not in any noticeable pain after the game last night and didn't seem to be favoring his leg. GO was receiving maintenance today and did not practice. He is listed as day-to-day. [Update: Smith says he saw Greg with a slight limp today]

i saw him turn around with a limp at the beginning of the 4th, but he played his great stretch with it. not worried.

I wouldn't be concerned about this, but you know the track record of our medical staff...

i hope his leg can be saved and not amputated :sigh:

Get used to this jealous feeling you have of Oden over Bynumb.

And OP. Why do you have to put "Oden Injured" for the title? He has a freaking bruise.

Wow dude. Oden injured? Couldn't you have put Oden has a little Ouchie? I read the title and my life passed before my eyes. Glad to see it's not anything to worry about.

That was the entire point.

Yeah, if Oden gets a papercut Bill Siimons will write a scathing column about how he could tell by the way Oden walked down the hall before the draft that he was susceptible to career ending paper cut injuires and related infections and resulting amputations.

The good news is Oden is starting to silence these clueless haters with his on court play during preseason. Boston, with three solid, defenseive bigs will be a tough game for Oden, but I hope he drops 25/15 on them as a big fat FU to that tool Simmons.

Hate to be redundant, and I just now posted this in another thread, but here goes:

Greg took a hard shot to the leg in last night's game. It scared me for a minute. But then he went ape shit on the Thuggets and I forgot about it.

It probably just stiffened up on him today.

I can't believe I care about the bobos of the rich and famous. :pimp:

Or in other words, he showed enough last night in kicking Denver's ass that he can rest today and play tomorrow, then get ready and rest up for the regular season.

with oden you never know.

remember all star break... its just a bruise lol? 10 games later he played.

you never know with oden. hes never healthy

Little smidgen of a difference of a bone bruise to a joint and a muscle bruise on a thigh.

You're certainly trying to invoke the karma gods.

Karma has to do with the journey of the individual soul. Gods have nothing to do with Karma.

He is playing with fire in regards to Karma though. Should be very careful with statements like those.

OK so he got hit probably and has a bruise. No big deal.

True.

A bone bruise gets better pretty quick.

A muscle bruise on the thigh often leads to a torn hamstring and career-ending surgery.

Was that your point? :dunno:

Curious where you got this gem of information... it runs counter to what I was able to find

http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/back/hamstrings/hamstringstrain.htm

A pulled hamstring rarely manifests as a result of contact -if you have taken an impact to the back of the leg it should be treated as a contusion until found to be otherwise.

http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/leg_injuries/a/thigh2.htm

Hamstring pulls or strains often occur during an eccentric contraction of the hamstring muscle group as an athlete is running. Just before the foot hits the ground, the hamstrings will contract to slow the forward motion of the lower leg (tibia and foot). Less commonly, a hamstring injury is the result of a direct blow to the muscle from another play or being hit with a ball.

http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=A00408

Muscle overload is the main cause of hamstring muscle strain. This can happen when the muscle is stretched beyond its capacity or challenged with a sudden load.

Hamstring muscle strains often occur when the muscle lengthens as it contracts, or shortens. Although it sounds contradictory, this happens when you extend a muscle while it is weighted, or loaded. This is called an "eccentric contraction."

During sprinting, the hamstring muscles contract eccentrically as the back leg is straightened and the toes are used to push off and move forward. The hamstring muscles are not only lengthened at this point in the stride, but they are also loaded — with body weight as well as the force required for forward motion.

Like strains, hamstring tendon avulsions are also caused by large, sudden loads.

the whole oden is injured is almost insane at this point.

the guy could have a scratch on his forehead and you would see the words out and career threatening. I mean the guy IS ALWAYS HURT! Its just unreal.

With that said... i think hes played every pre season game so maybe hes getting a rest? :dunno:

Not a big surprise. Injuries like that tend to hurt more the next day than they do at the time. If it was the regular season, and he had to go right back out the next night and play on it, it could be an issue. Right now, probably meaningless.

Now he has an opportunity to head out and get a massage on 82nd to help relieve the pain... those parlors are so much harder to find when you are on the road in Salt Lake City and need some therapy.
