Oden injured

Guys as big as Oden, who play a physically punishing style like Oden are gonna get beat up over the course of any season. I think he'll probably average somewhere around 65-70 games per regular season, and that's just fine with me.

It's not a big deal. It'll be annoying for a few days, but he'll be fine.

Curious where you got this gem of information... it runs counter to what I was able to find

You provided the answer right here:

Muscle overload is the main cause of hamstring muscle strain. This can happen when the muscle is stretched beyond its capacity or challenged with a sudden load.

Hamstring muscle strains often occur when the muscle lengthens as it contracts, or shortens. Although it sounds contradictory, this happens when you extend a muscle while it is weighted, or loaded. This is called an "eccentric contraction."

During sprinting, the hamstring muscles contract eccentrically as the back leg is straightened and the toes are used to push off and move forward. The hamstring muscles are not only lengthened at this point in the stride, but they are also loaded — with body weight as well as the force required for forward motion.

Like strains, hamstring tendon avulsions are also caused by large, sudden loads.

I said it often "leads to" a torn hamstring.

Typically, players will go ahead and play when they have a bruised thigh. No big deal, right?

But you can't help favoring a sore thigh when you're out there, so you put most of your weight on the other thigh when you need power and you end up tearing that hamstring.

My physical therapist warned me of the same thing last year.

I was questioning your use of the term often, not the advice of your therapist on how to put in a hearing aid before listening to a basketball game.

You may want to get a second opinion, because it seems you aren't doing it right.

Interesting that you have determined that Gregs contusion to the inner thigh is the same as you describe above. That's like me describing my shoulder injury to explain the risk of a rib injury.

None of these injuries to Oden, Aldridge or Przbilla (back spasms) are serious but it makes me want to lean towards keeping Collins on the roster instead of Udoka.

I wonder if Greg was white, if Nate would've allowed him to get injured.

that is the most win non sequitur ever.

the whole oden is injured is almost insane at this point.

the guy could have a scratch on his forehead and you would see the words out and career threatening. I mean the guy IS ALWAYS HURT! Its just unreal.

Most athletes are "always hurt"...playing a long season of competitive sports tends to lead to sprains and bruises along the way, that the players play through and rest when they can. This sort of injury is no more concerning or indicting for Oden than for any other player.

I realize, though, that you, being an optimist, had hoped Oden would transform into an invincible superhuman for your peace of mind. ;)

Wow dude. Oden injured? Couldn't you have put Oden has a little Ouchie? I read the title and my life passed before my eyes. Glad to see it's not anything to worry about.

When I read Oden was hurt I thought of starting a thread with the title 'Oden injured, out for season' and then in the body putting 'for preseason that is'. :devilwink:

That would have been to cruel and probably editted if not deleted.

Shaq logged more than 70 regular season games in just 7 of his 17 seasons. Not that Oden is going to be that good, but just that big bruisers often do have a lot of injury issues. Hopefully Oden takes care of his body better than Shaq, but the point stands.

I wish there were a stat on "Injuries Delivered." I suspect, much like Shaq, over the course of his career he'll give at least as good as he receives.

I can't believe I care about the bobos of the rich and famous. :pimp:

Just to lighten things up...

I have not yet had my caffeine and when I read the post at first I thought BBert was saying "I can't believe I care about the boobs of the rich and famous".

Oops.

just cause its latin doesn't mean you get to start claiming grammar for yourself

Well, you were kinda close. I don't care about the boobs who care about the rich and famous. That whole industry of creating 'famous' people who are famous for being famous so the 'famous people industry' can sell their celebrity shows and magazines to lifeless dimwits really gets on my nerves.

But when it comes to the Blazers, well, that's different. :)

So is he sitting out tonight, or does anyone know? Just curious.

I'm a boob liker.

Read that one fast, or without coffee. :)

He's out for Today's game?

He probably should be ... these preseason games are more about finding a rhythm and getting into the flow of basketball -- something Greg has done very well so far. If he's dinged up let him rest for when it really counts.
