Apparently, Nate said postgame that Oden will be out for awhile. Can anyone confirm?

Meh, what's new?

This is just the status quo with Greggers.

Yes, I heard that. It was on the post game show with Wheels. Nate mentioned that it would be a while before we see Oden play again. He just shrugged off any idea of GO playing against Indy.

I have mixed emotions. Of course I don't want him to play while hurt, but him being in the game makes it so much more interesting. I love watching Greg play, whether good or bad. Why? His development is key to our future. If he becomes that DPOY, 15 rebounds type of guy, I can see us winning at least 3 rings. Without him, we'd be lucky to get one.

So why haven't they scoped him? I don't get it?

This sucks. I hope he gets well soon- we'll need him for the stretch run. And he needs more NBA experience.

Surgery is never first resort. If it's clearly necessary, then it's done, but it's not done just because it may be needed. There are risks associated with surgery. The idea that the team or Oden dropped the ball by not instantly resorting to surgery is absurd.

He may need it, in which case it will happen. But getting healthy without surgery is always the preferred option.

I am about || this close to stop banking on Oden as part of our Big 3. I do not blame him for the injuries, shit happens. But when it keeps happening, it's tough to depend on someone so heavily for the future. This time it wasn't even a freak injury either, just banged knees and he has missed well over 2 weeks. Very frustrating. I wish the big fella well, Lord only knows how he's feeling. We all need to just stay positive and hope he at least turns out to be a force on D!

Wasn't his first microfracture injury a result of a bone chip...? :O

:P

We sure could use his presence, but hey at least Channing has stepped up his game lately.

I thought Barrett said he would be back Wednesday?

This fucking team is so irritating when it comes to releasing news. Let us know what the fuck is going on.

How do you go from, "I could play if there was a game today" to him being out since the all-star break plus more weeks coming supposedly?

Annoying.

Here is a quote from Nate that Joe Freeman got in the post-game:

How close is Greg Oden to returning?
"He didn't look like he could run last week when I was watching him run. I don't think ... I think he's going to need some time. We thought this thing would heal a little sooner and it's not healing as fast as we thought or that recovery is not as fast as we thought it would be. So it could be some more time before he's ready to go. As far as what I saw of him running the floor, I don't think he'll be coming back any time in the next few days."

I want to know where Barrett got the idea that Oden would be back Wednesday.

Next few days is such a conflicting statement because right before that he said it could be some time. Perhaps he will be back Wednesday, perhaps Thursday, perhaps next week.

Equally annoying is the Martell Webster situation. How does a guy miss a whole season just because his ankle is bothering him??

stress fracture. he came back too early before it healed and the stress fracture happened again.

Like AD said Martell doesn't have an ankle injury - he fractured his foot to start the season then refractured it when he came back. You take it slow with foot fractures - that is what screwed up Walton (that and pumping him full of and having him play on it).

Shows what you know. He had a stress fracture in his foot buddy.

Yeah, I know, but that's quite the stress fracture. It's shelved him for the whole season.

Stress fractures can be very tricky things, especially in the somewhat thin metatarsal bones ... the trouble is rates of healing vary widely because the bone isn't broken enough sometimes to trigger a full healing response (like you usually get in a clean break).

If you need a cautionary tale, just look at the way Walton's feet injuries were mishandled back in the day; rushing back too soon probably ruined his career (being a vegetarian with poor nutrition and rail thin probably didn't help either).
