Oden, Roy questionable against Boston

I agree with the WWJPD (what would joel przybilla do?) remark.

Yeah, tape it up and get out there, Greg!

5 bucks says if they don't play, we'll see no less than 6 "injury prone" threads started by people.

The rookie center injured his left ankle near the end of Monday's practice when he tangled with a teammate underneath the basket. Blazers coach Nate McMillan said his starting center was scheduled to undergo X-rays later Monday and the results would determine Oden's availability against the Celtics.
:smiley-eek2:

Hey on the bright side we can all just trot out the "We didn't have our best player(s)" excuse.

This would be devastating if Roy is out, a beatdown of epic proportions.

It can't get much worse than most of the game in Boston. I mean... it can. But it's doubtful.

Look on the bright side; this time it was the left side of his body :ghoti:

Injuries to your superstar are never good, but part of me wonders if it isn't pretty good timing for this to happen. Seems like a lot of the team is standing around waiting for Roy to pull a miracle out of his ass every offensive possession. Maybe this will put a fire into the team to move the ball better like they did earlier in the season. Portland was probably going to lose anyway, we might as well reset the offense a little by giving guys like Aldridge, Fernandez and even Bayless more of a focus for a game.

You'd think that, if true, Bayless would get more minutes, right?

I bet that the minutes lost will go to Travis and playing Blake as the SG with Sergio as the PG, or Sergio and Rudy, or Blake and Rudy.

While I'm all for the Blazers to win, if Roy and Oden aren't 100%, let them rest. Its not a must-win game......It'd be good to give other guys burn on the offense....get Bayless some PT in an offensive minded role...start Rudy at SG......activate SBO.

Roy and Oden absolutely sucked in Boston so this is a good thing, right?

xrays as in his fucking foot might be broken??? FUCK!

Well, there is the chance that he might have a break in his bone, but they always do x-rays for sprains. That way they can see if there's an obvious strain/tear or whatever. It doesn't necessarily mean a broken bone.

Ah, of course...I had my foot xrayed for a bad sprain too. Getting hurt after one of his best games of the season sucks balls though.

I had a hockey coach who always had a warm thing to say with such an injury.....

"Tape an aspirin to it"

I recall yet again another story from hall of fame coach Pat Riley. During the regular season big man Charles Smith told Riley he was injured and couldn't go. Riley said fine, but then asked him this question. "Hypothetically if we were in the playoffs right now and this was game 7 and I needed you for an offensive rebound on a FT could you go?" Smith replied "ya, I could probably go" Riley then asked him nicely to go put his uniform on and get taped up.

That wouldn't be very smart if he aggravated his injury and was not available at a more critical point of the season (such as an ACTUAL game seven).

If either Roy or Oden have an injury that might be aggravated, I'd argue it is not a sin to have him sit a game and get closer to healthy.

You're crazy Ed. Oden is obviously a pussy, because Mediocre Man had a hockey coach who told him to play on an injury once.:ghoti:

Start Rudy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6th man = Bayless!!!!!!!!!!!! On the bright side, at least it's not on national TV!

I'll take that bet...I figure one or two will be started by people, five or six by trolls.

Easy 5 bucks:)

Bayless has been getting a lot of run with the first unit. I'd like to think he'd start over Rudy.

I get the idea of letting them take a day off against a very tough opponent, but as a fan, I hate the idea.

This is Boston at the Rose Garden. Players should live for these kind of games and as a fan, I do. Yes their chances of winning are less than a Toronto or even Denver . . . but that is what makes it all the more sweeter to win those games.

Not many teams if any overlook the Blazers anymore, so a win against a Boston is a huge statement to the league.

Jesus people!!!! What happened to players like Ripkin and AC Green and Brett Favre. If you can play you play period. Especially if it's something that can't get worse by playing on it. If it's just sore then nut up and and get out there and give the people their moneys worth.

I bet they'll both play. Oden's ankle is probably just a sprain, and he'll want to play in this game. Roy participated in practice - maybe not all of it, but parts of it. This is a game that both guys want to be in. Boston is a measuring stick, and the Rose Garden is going to be absolute bedlam. It's the kind of game that young NBA players live for. I bet they'll both play, and it'll come down to the wire.

How do we know this? I'm not doubting mind you, just curious where this came from.

Rice said it on courtside tonight and Nate confirmed it. When Bayless gets practice run, it's with the starters. The part I thought was weird though....Nate was asked if Bayless got more run today b/c of Roy's injury. Nate said yes, but at the PG. He didn't say if Blake moved to the 2, but that would make the most sense.
