They need to scope that leg and get that chip outta there!
Why? Assuming it's not rubbing against articular cartilage then scar tissue will form around the fragment and hold it in suspension, my guess is he won't get scoped until the off-season -- if ever.
It's obviously causing him pain. Remove the fragment, remove the pain. Simple as that.
Actually it's not obvious at all that it's the thing causing him pain.

Wouldn't that depend on the size of the chip?![]()

I’ll start by saying one thing right away — after all these years of covering athletics, I never question a player’s injuries. If he says he’s hurting, I always believe that he is. I’ve seen too many times when people thought a player was slow recovering, or even faking something — to find out later there was a serious injury that went undiscovered or misdiagnosed.
It’s been many, many years since the days of the open warfare between Bill Walton and the Trail Blazers’ medical staff. But I find it ironic that these days whenever there seems to be mystery about an injury nobody questions the doctors but they feel free to doubt the player.
There are some factors at work here with Oden’s knee injury that some people may not have considered. The foremost is that the Blazers’ medical staff is having a bit of an unlucky season.
Martell Webster was originally thought to be out for six to eight weeks. Then he was actually thought to be healed and was given the green light to return to action. He played five minutes and now is out for the remainder of the regular season.
Steve Blake had a shoulder injury, was given permission to return to action but suffered a setback and then had to miss more games.
There is no possible way of knowing whether these players were too eager to return, were being pressured to return quicker than they should have, or if there was some mistake in evaluating the extent of their healing. On the whole, everyone must understand that this isn’t always an exact science and all people heal differently. Treating athletes who perform at a high physical level isn’t easy.
But I would also understand that there may be an extra degree of caution with Oden after what’s gone on previously. I would figure that care will be taken so that when Oden returns to action, he does so without any fear of an immediate re-injury.
If you’re a fan and you’re frustrated, imagine how the doctors and the players feel. There are no easy answers. And patience is the only remedy.
Outside the practice facility, Oden is the story. If you leave that door open long enough, it's bound to blow in. How's Greg? How long is Greg out? Why is Greg taking so long? Should Greg have been handled differently?
There's a beautiful conspiracy theory suggesting Oden won't play again this year, but the Blazers are waiting until after the season ticket renewal deadline to make the announcement. There seems almost to be a race to be the one who regretfully calls the guy a bust. No offense, but, well, you know.

I guess no one else heard this. I'm surprised, they were making a huge deal out of it this morning. I only heard about 10-15 minutes of it and was hoping to get more details. Again, it is all the morning guys were talking about when I was listening . . . or has this issue (GO saying he might get surgery soon) already been discussed.
It hasn't been discussed. Half of us are wary of a day's worth of being bashed for daring to question St. Gregory and his frail body, and the other half hasn't quite figured out the talking points to uphold the "he's going to be a dominant NBA force who should have the offense run through him right now" line of folly.
That said, he may as well get the surgery now and come back for a playoff push off of the bench. I'm guessing that it is Oden who is delaying it if this is true, and I give him a lot of credit for that at this point.
there are several lines of folly at work in your post though none involve defending oden. it's hilarious that you try to play as a victim when you're so quick to jump on oden about anything and then you play doctor as well.It hasn't been discussed. So did anyone else listen to the game this morning? I did a quick search (not my specialty) and could not find the interview the morning guys were ranting about. maybe I'm completely wrong here and don't mean to give out bad info. I do know the morning guys were ranting on the comments by GO that he may choose to do surgery during the regular season and I think they were quoting Hollinger as the source.
But I can't find anything . . . so maybe I heard them worng.![]()
from what i recall you have been very quick to jump on oden(as have many others).I said that I give Oden a lot of credit for seemingly putting off surgery in order to try and contribute this season. Are you going to post to the topic at hand, or are you just going to post your incomplete analysis of what I actually said? Also, saying I jump on Oden about anything is completely false.
I'm not a radiologist, but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn last night. That chip needs to come out. The club has already stated that it will be removed after the season I believe. IMO, they should have got that thing outta there as soon as his swelling went down.

You all need to listen to Channing's interview on from "The Fan" yesterday. It's not a definitive answer to what is going on with Greg, but it's a great insight into the mindset that his teammates might be having regarding his injury and how he's handling it -- let me put it this way, it was a good enough explanation that it shut up "Big Suck" and Isaac Ropp.
