Oden: US Mini Camp Updates

Any write-ups outside of Twitter feeds? Sounds like Oden is at the very least getting some mobility back.

Defense and rebounding. That's what the Blazers need from him. If he provides that consistently, the team jumps immediately into contender status.

But Joel isn't going to help them do anythign this season. Battier is a solid SF that could really help a contender. If they were to move him, it would make more sense to get youth back in a deal, as opposed to a 30 year old C who can opt out of his deal after the season.

Is this thread about Oden at the Mini-camp, or is it about a trade that will never, ever happen?

I think we should let Joel come off the books so we can get more super valuable cap space.

I mean, look at what has been done with it this year.

Secondly, no pass first PG have won the finals since Avory Johnson was PG of the Spurs.
Rondo is a shoot first PG? He averages even less shots per minute then Jason Kidd.

STOMP

I have a friend that is a beat writer who is there as well. He is not associated in any way with the Blazers, and he said, and I quote....."Your boy Oden looks like a totally different player. He is ultra quick on his defensive rotations, and is nasty as hell"

is that true or are you toying with my heart?

So far, none that I've found.

Thanks for posting the Tweets in this thread. At this stage of this summer, any good news about the Blazers, and especially Oden, is welcome news regardless of the source of the Tweet.

Question to everyone: If Greg is Dwight Howard-like during this camp, do you feel more at ease with moving Joel in a package for a small forward or point guard? Or, do you like having the luxury of having a legit starting center coming off the bench?

When you have 2 centers with a history of injury problems, I would not call it a "luxury."

Get real people, Greg's not even at this camp, this all just an elaborate hoax perpetrated by Casey Holdahl, orchestrated by Kevin Pritchard and funded by Paul Allen.

Did you guys not get the memo? Greg's a fucking bust, just ask Bill Simmons.

I love Battier, but Joel is too important to the team. Let Oden average 30+ mpg over 82 games and we'll talk.

I'm disappointed we haven't pursued Oberto, who is said to be headed to Washington. I'd feel better if we had a reliable vet as a third center in the very likely event one of the two Cs goes down.

Now Outlaw and Bayless for Battier, I'd do. So take heart Crimson, not everybody thinks your idea is criminally insane.

Thanks to you and some of the other reasonable responses. I won't post it anymore other then a recap from the Houston site when its done.

Currently it's 5 votes no and 7 votes HELLZ NO! With one vote yes (mine). They love Battier and think Joel is garbage. I disagree with both sites in that I think both are excellent defensive players that are underated in this league and add veteran leadership to their respective teams. Battier can also score the ball when left open.

To think fans complain that KP is over valuing our guys and then ask for Blake/Outlaw to = Gerald Wallace or Rubio.

Someone asked if we should consider pursuing Lee and trading Oden for a SF or PG. I was just responding to it and received reviews worse then Yoko Ono's last album. That's probably putting it mildly.

Yeah but this is only the USA tryouts... most of those guys won't even make it on the team, so I'm not sure about the level of talent assembled. :devilwink:

Oden jumped to help up a teammate who has fallen down. Has he ever done that?! And the cheering, clapping, man, his head is finally on straight!

And the defensive instincts? WOW.

WOOT! My late link helps out! Yea, Oden looks like a changed man..its all mental.

I'm suddenly very excited about this season...
