OT Officers Suspended After Punching, Slamming Door On 16 Year Old's Foot

She is a kid Jesus. If I did that to my son it's child abuse
I keep thinking about this, as if it was my daughter and I don't know how I feel about it. Most of these "videos" I am not giving the cop the benefit of the doubt, but this one, I'm not entirely sure what they're supposed to do, if they arrest someone and they're doing everything they can to get the person in the car to go with them, it's not like asking politely was going to work...

I get what you are saying, but there are definately ways to do that without hurting her. The other officer could have pulled her till her legs couldn't reach and then the female officer could have closed the door. Then went around and helped push her in and close the other door. No fucked up foot, no punch.

But, yeah it's tough. If it is an adult and they are resisting I would be like that is there own fault. But, a kid? I don't know. I am not sure what to think.

I dunno, I think most 16-year-olds should know better. I mean I was an idiot at 16 and if I had been arrested I'm pretty sure that would not have been my reaction to it...
There was probably a better way to handle it on the cops side, but the people filming were making it sound like the girl was a poor innocent child, and come on at 16 they know hey if I stick my foot in front of a door it might get hurt... So yeah, definitely think the cops should've been better at finding a way, but compared to the video of the mom in Phoenix, and multiple other police video's this doesn't really strike me as "that bad".

The more I watch of this more conflicted I am about it, that girl was completely out of control, the cop especially the guy at the start was trying to communicate with her and de-escalate the situation and she wasn't having any of that. The female cop was completely out of line hitting her. I didn't listen to all the cops standing around talking at the end. Seems like if the girl had of cooperated just a little bit, the whole thing is avoided, still the female cop hitting her she should be gone, and charged with assault. If that was my daughter I'd both be really pissed off at the cop (especially the female one) and really ticked off at my daughter for the way she handled it.

I hate to see what the cops did to this kid but, her family is escalating the situation. They are getting this girl even more riled up, by the time she gets in the car she is full blown not cooperating. Partly due to her own stupidity, partly due to her own freaking family.

I am sure they will have a case against the police but, she should have cooperated and her family should shut the fuck up and stop escalating the situation.

And, no, I am not siding with the cops here, they were clearly way out of line. I think both sides could have handled this situation better.

I feel like we should just rename this forum "Cops and other white people do bad shit."
Because most White people, like most people of color, don't do bad shit. Most police officers don't do bad shit either.

Whatever you do you DO NOT SLAM THE DOOR ON THEIR LEG! THE END!

Yes, she should have cooperated but people with upbringings that may not live up to our standards do not make the wisest choices. Some people are going to stick their foot out the door. Better figure out a better way. I dunno, maybe a taser? Someone above her rank should have known what to do and she should have sought out that advice. Surely someone in their police department would know.

Yeah, a cop using a taser on a 16 year old would've gone over so much better...?
Definitely agree the cops should have been better here, the female cop should be charged for assault.
I thought the male cop, at least the first few minutes tried to deescalate the situation. He was communicating with her, telling her to stop doing things, she was clearly not going to be talked into cooperating though.
He also had his body cam on which is good, they should have their body cams on.

I don't really know if a taser would have been better or not but I can't see why it would be worse then slamming a car door on an ankle. This is a situation where someone with better training on the issue should have been consulted, for crying out loud.

They didnt slam the car door on her ankle, they forced it closed when she had her leg on it trying to keep it open, but thats semantics, Im not sure either way is very good...
I mean yeah the cops shouldve tried something else but the girl was definitely in the wrong too.

It is semantics. But no matter what, you just don't do that to a child. I wouldn't even do that to a husky adult.

Well that's not really the point. My point is it feels like more than half the stuff that gets posted in here is about either white people or cops (or both) doing bad shit in the news.

Well it is because Obama came to bat, his time to teach, to make a difference. He didn't, he punted on each opportunity the teaching moment was gifted.

Funny how the selective outrage clips always distort the entire story.

LOL at "punching" her leg.

The officers should be commended for their patient restraint in handling a foul-mouthed, spoiled-brat criminal.

They could have tased her to end the chase.

They could have maced her to get her in the car.

She was arrested unscathed.

10 Rotten Tomatoes for her really unconvincing fake crying.
