Hopefully, Stotts gives him a chance. We've only seen him in Summer League and college, but he also seems to be very poised on the court for a teenager. I said it on draft night, I thought he was a steal at 37. I hope he proves me right.

He'll get burn, it's kind of a mandate at this point. Develop internally, or be first round fodder forever.

I also think that's why we took BPA at both 24 and 37 in the draft (and I really do believe Simons and Trent Jr. were the best prospects available at those two spots). Don't worry about what position they are going to play, the NBA is becoming more and more positionless. Just load up on the best talent available, develop it and figure out how to best utilize it when the time comes.

Stotts mentioned in his interview today he’s keeping an open mind about rotations and only the starting five plus Evan and Collins have spots locked up. He also mentioned that he’s thought about taking CJ off the second unit entirely. Mentioned Seth, Stauskas, Layman, and Trent as options.

Yes, please!

Yea! get CJ off his duty as backup PG!
And stop playing Dame the entire 1st quarter ffs!

I like see Dame and CJ minutes go down at least to about 34 minutes. But I think Stotts will experiment with a straight 2nd second unit in preseason to see how it works. With Harkless out for preseason I think Layman will get first crack at the small forward position.

I still don't see why people think Curry should and will only get 14 minutes per game. Most mind boggling thing about this forum lately...

Perspective on an early-season feeling-out process? Uncertainty over his health/effectiveness after missing an entire year due to injury? Desire for Baldwin to get time as well?

I don't think it's completely unreasonable to think he's not necessarily going to get 25+ mpg from the jump.

He's healthy, better than Baldwin, and we don't underplay good vets to start the season...

All assumptions. We'll see in preseason. You may be right, but you may not be.

Healthy? to some extent. He hasn't even been playing 5-on-5 for that long.

Better than Baldwin1?
Not at PG, which is what CJ needs, Curry needs, the team needs, and Lillard wants.
Not at defense, which our backcourt and our team could REALLY use.

Curry should get a lot of PT, no argument.

We really need what Baldwin1 brings, period. If we have to play Balwin1 at SF to get Curry minutes at the 2, then maybe we should try it.

The real take away from that article is he plans to be in the line up on opening night:

“I’ll be back,” Harkless told The Athletic. “I’ll be ready.”

Back, he says, for at least one of the Blazers’ five preseason games. And ready, he says, for the season opener Oct. 18 against the Lakers.

“That’s the plan,” Harkless said.

Coach Terry Stotts said Harkless took part in about a third of the team’s first practice Tuesday, but Harkless said he actually took part in closer to 75 percent of the action. Then, in the team’s second practice later that night, he didn’t sit out once.

“And today, I woke up and felt fine,” Harkless said Wednesday. “So I did the same thing today, and even added more.”

So, I guess that answers the question: "Who is going to play small forward?"

I won't be convinced until I see him on opening night. I think he's still hurt.

I think he will get more then 14 minutes most night. But right now we don't how Stotts will use his rotation. We also have to wait on how Curry come back from injury.

I don't know if this was brought up, but in an interview with Curry he was clear that when he is on the court with ET, ET is the ball handler. When ET is not on the court, Curry is the PG.

FWIW I want WBIV to keep up on his long ball so he can take the backup PG position because of his defense, his tempo pushing and his outside shot.

Yeah I was thinking the same. Baldwin looked good at times from 3pt in summer league. If he can shoot it well enough to keep the defense honest then that combined with all his other strengths there should be no reason not to play him.....when ET is not on the court.

Is there a potential for some blowout games to kick off the season with?

I'm ashamed to say, but i really want to see a lineup of Collins,Layman,Trent,Baldwin and Simons! i already know how the starters play, i want to feel something fresh!
“Blowout” in WHO’S favor?

He will, eventually. Curry, like Stauskas, is a short term rental, a place holder until Trent Jr., Simons and Baldwin are ready to be rotation pieces. I think Trent Jr. will crack the rotation by the end of the season. Baldwin and Simons will likely have to wait until next year.

Given his upper body strength, I want to see if Trent Jr. can eventually play SF. A future starting 5 of Dame, C.J., Trent Jr., Collins and Nurk is very intriguing, with Simons and Baldwin providing a good mix of offense and defense off the bench.

Some interesting statistics from a BE article on Blazers front court.

"According to Adam Fromal of Bleacher Report, that unit ranks as the 23rd best frontcourt in the NBA. Fromal notes that the low ranking might not be from a lack of ability, but rather a lack of opportunity. Here are their numbers when taking into account the court presence of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum:

Lillard on and McCollum on: 6.5 net rating in 456 minutes

Lillard on and McCollum off: 17.1 net rating in 87 minutes

Lillard off and McCollum on: 1.5 net rating in 41 minutes

Lillard off and McCollum off: 32.2 net rating in five minutes"

Y'all fell in love with Baldwin from a 7 game sample. Why do we need what Baldwin brings? Our defense was better than our offense last year and our bench was horribly inconsistent offensively last year. That's something that only Curry would help with.

.. and his summer league performance. He was head and shoulders better than most anyone else that was on the court with him there and he displayed a skill that only Dame has on the team, the ability to run the offense and dictate the pace of the game. I know, small sample size, summer league etc... - but at least to me, the eye test was very promising.

Why the fuck are you calling him Baldwin1 ???

Are you including yourself in “y’all?”

I'd really like to know what @BonesJones had for lunch on June 23. Would you mind looking that up for me while you're digging through his old posts trying to make him look bad?

Congrats @BonesJones, you know you've hit the big time when you have your very own cyber stalker.

You’re right, I should pay less attention on here.

Wrong, Period. I've liked Baldwin1 since WAY before summer league. Did you read my post at all? I said Curry needs minutes.
