they better hope that bubble gasol isn’t permanent gasol
some of these contracts...wow
if a player makes 36.5M he's getting paid 100K a day. That's $4167/hour. $69.44/minute...every minute of every day all year long
somebody signs a 160M deal over 5 years...if you make $50,000 a year, it will only take you 3200 years to match
of course then there's Jeff Bezos who has 180 billion. If you save $5000 a year, it would only take 36 million years to match him
If the game was small ball & run and gun three point shooting, 50 years ago, I would have spent hours as a 6' shooting three's and could have been an all star. And the Blazers wouldnt have won the ship in 76/77. lolIt really makes you wonder if choosing being a bum instead of an NBA superstar really is a wise decision.
I chose NBA superstar but it seems it takes a little more effort than just choosing. Anyway i'm still willing to chose that route? It really makes you wonder if choosing being a bum instead of an NBA superstar really is a wise decision.
Not really, just marry one, then divorce them: HALF!!I chose NBA superstar but it seems it takes a little more effort than just choosing. Anyway i'm still willing to chose that route?
Would I have to put out?Not really, just marry one, then divorce them: HALF!!
There is no easy path, my friendWould I have to put out?
I don't know about that. I feel like there are a ton of guys that believe that they should be compensated for all of the revenue that they generate, which is only fair but I think if LeBron James had to choose between a lavish lifestyle as a business exec or a comfortable upper middle class lifestyle as a basketball player he would choose the latter. I could go on and on about other players that would do the same.Players always say they love game but they love that money more.
At least you didn't say the road was very long and there were many hard times in front of me.There is no easy path, my friend![]()
I guess my major complaint is the size of the contract they get. Yes there making owners money too and they want a share of that I agree with them 100 percent on that and there putting a entertainment for people and yes they should get paid that just any other entertainer just like a singer and just like any other entertainer. But the size of there contracts is my biggest complaint today 196 million dollars contract for 5 years. Some of these players only play good offense or good defense. That's mean there one way players so do they deserve 30 to 40 million dollars a year my answer is hell no especially it's a game that there supposed to love. But I don't blame them for taking it someone going give that much money love it or hate I pretty sure majority who jump all over it. Then they have there endorsement that's makes them million of dollars because there good basketball players. Yes majority give back to there community that's great.I don't know about that. Yeah maybe it's around a 50/50 split but that might even be a little cynical. We do know that for Anthony Edwards he would rather be playing football and probably could at a lower level but the money is better for him in the NBA so he's about the money before the game. Also it's important like it is in so many instances in life to realize that the situation isn't binary. All of these guys started playing the game because it interested them and they had to love being so good at it, none of them started the game playing for money but when they did start making money, money not only became one of the priorities but because the money made them better off, it had to increase their love for the game that brought them that money and opportunity. So it's not as simple as you are saying.
Free market capitalism would dictate that they are worth whatever they can get. So yes they are worth these contracts and just so we are clear I believe that every single all-star player in this league is underpaid. The funny thing about the revenue split is that it only considers incoming revenue and not valuation growth, so the owners like to talk about what they make or don't make off of their teams but over the past decade and I know this year is a little different, team's valuations have gone up by around 10% annually I realize that means that what is relevant last season wasn't relevant before because the valuation increases so fast but last season that means the owners made an average of $200 million more in assets than they had to claim as revenue. That's 6 billion dollars, that same season the reported revenue was around 8.8 billion dollars. The players are underpaid and the owners are making a killing.I guess my major complaint is the size of the contract they get. UnlikeAgreed. Max contracts are TOO DAMN HiGH.

Oh and earlier I referred to free market capitalism which is our countries economic model with some exceptions. Well in the NBA it's not the model. Not only are team salaries capped but player salaries are capped because players have max-salaries which is completely unfair. LeBron James makes the league far more money than he is compensated for, many other players can make the same claim but it's especially true of guys like LeBron, Kobe and MJ who were all the face of the league since it has been extremely profitable and went international. I also find the salary caps very anti-capitalism, if as a collective the owners decide that they need all teams to be successful for their team to be successful then just have a more robust revenue sharing system like MLB. I'll tell you what's not capped, the money the owners can make or the value of the teams.
You mentioned endorsements so I'll address that quickly. Endorsements are fantastic and a great example of free market capitalism. There are no limits and the players just have to go out there and get what the companies they endorse see as their value. So the players not only deserve every penny they get, they deserve more. Now if you want to say that we as a society overvalue entertainment, you can make that point but that's our fault not these players.
Unlike
RollerBall! If only teams were publically traded and could offer stock options to players.
