Id love Ridnour with the BAE but I dont think he will come that cheap

Do any of you that want guys like Ridnour want to win in the playoffs? Knocking down shots is awesome, but defense wins in the playoffs

D is something we lack but I cant think of a PG we can afford who can run a team play D and hit the three. if I have to eliminate one of those attributes to be able to afford a backup PG D is the least important of those to me.

Who did we get last year with the BAE?

Earl Watson? I understand it's a different year. But do you think the talent recieved will be any better than that?

If we used our BAE exception last season we would not have one this season just saying.

Brian Roberts shouldn't be considered if that's what we're looking for in a backup - he's absolutely putrid on D. But he can shoot and run a team reasonably well.

Seeing what we ended up with I would actually prefer Chalmers now.

There's a trade around the corner and I expect to be shocked again after the Kaman deal.

I think Blake is a good BAE target. Use CJ, Leonard and Wright as trade for a super sub.

We need Kaman to grow his beard back to his Dallas days and bring back Sergio Rodriguez for the BAE, now that he is bearded. Will run zz-top as our 2nd unit.

Good point. We also don't have any second round picks for the next few years. We need to be very selective on the BAE use.

As it stands now though, we don't have a solid backup PG. Are we willing to risk going into the season with Barton and CJ as our primary ball handlers when Damian is out of the game?

I was/am hoping to do a sign and trade with Mo's contract and pickup a backup PG without using the BAE. With the developments to this point though, it looks like a team like Dallas may be willing and able to sign him outright.

Why don't they have a 2nd round pick next year?

I don't think we can sign and trade mo since he's not a bird right player. I thought any sign and trade are for players on the same team for a min 3 years

Woah...Portland owes the Cavs it's 2nd round picks in 15 and 16, the Rockets get their 2nd round pick in 2017, and the Kings get one in 18. http://www.nbadraft.net/nba_draft_trades/2014 (about 1/4 down).

However, Portland gets a pick from Minnesota next year (2nd round). All right in the world!

We have the "non-bird rights" to Mo Williams which allows us to sign him up to 120% of last year's salary. There are essentially 3 tiers of Bird rights.

Correct, we can sign and trade Mo for up to $3.2 million a year which is the most we can pay him as well. So that could be a 3 year $10 million contract. But it'd have to be a trade all 3 parties agree to. It's more likely Mo just leaves as a free agent than we get any sort of asset we want.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Terry and Neil go after Jason Terry

Vince carter please

We cannot sign and trade Mo guys. Get that out of your thinking. He must play at least 3 years before a player can sign and trade

Maarty Leunen (sp?) former Oregon Duck, 6-9 SF avg 42% from 3pts range over 3 years playing in Italy. I think drafted by the Suns in 2008. Just saw he's playing SL for the Rockets. This guy has skills and hustles, rebounds, good character guy. Could be a Chandler Parsons type guy for cheap

I'm no expert on the collective bargaining agreement, but I read this paragraph to indicate we can re-sign him to the "non-bird exception":
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q25
He meets all of the requirements.
I read this paragraph to indicate he qualifies to be included in a sign and trade:

He meets all of the requirements.

This Collective Bargaining Agreement is pretty complex, so if I'm wrong, let me know what I'm missing.

This sort of sign and trade would only be used when the receiving team is over the cap, and under the tax level, and can't outright sign the player with other options such as the veterans minimum.
