I'll start this bad boy with Valiant Thor -- a hugely popular urban legend from the 50's and 60's. Pretty hilarious when you look back on it. He parked his "flying saucer" on a lake in Nevada and had a lifespan of near 500 years. Oh, and it had a religious slant to it -- he lived on Venus with Jesus Christ

Thor's presence begins in 1957 when he visited the Eisenhower administration. He is said to resemble us (human features), although much more handsome, but what "struck him out" was that he could apparently walk through walls and leave no fingerprints. Today, people are still trying to find his ship, the Victory One, which is said to be located near Lake Mead in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sightings of "Venusians" began in the 50s in Hunterdon County, NJ with Howard Menger, who claims they frequently came to his farm. He went on talk shows to talk about his experiences. He also hosted conventions. At one of these conventions appeared Commander Valiant Thor, who claimed he was the leader of all Venusians on Earth. He vowed his audiences by speaking any language known to man, including dialects. Thus began Thor's mystery.

Stranges said that agents of the Venusians escorted him to the Pentagon in 1959 to meet with Val, and he claimed to have seen Val's brother, Donn Thor, walk through walls. He also said that, upon meeting Valiant for the first time, the alien showed him a suit that would only zipper when Val waved his hand;it was made from "fabric" that could not be destroyed. The alien said to Stranges that the government was doing tests on him, and his IQ was determined to be close, or over, 200. Stranges, an ordained minister (preacher) said that Valiant and his shipmates (among them Donn and Jill, not related to the brothers) are a race of people created by God before Adam, and never fell from grace like humankind did.

Saddam Hussein buried his billons of dollars of high-tech weapons of mass destruction under the sand.

On the ESPN board I used to argue with very serious warmongers (some stationed over there) who threatened to kill you if you opposed their insanity.

Imagine a delicate instrument, wires sticking out, requires temperature control, etc. It sure is useful down there. You spent big bucks, hid its purchase from UN and US international tracking, so you could fucking BURY it.

Black people are still oppressed in 2014 - Urban legend or fact?

That's a tough one. It really comes down to what you perceive as the norm, which is determined by where you come from.

don't take the bait.

don't take the bait.

No bait.

I appreciated his answer too.

I can't imagine how anyone under the age of 30 can say they feel oppressed as a black person in the United States, but maybe I really am just that naive?

you are. you're comparing your filtered view of what oppression is, so it fits your world view. and since your world view is that of a white guy, in his 40's, you don't know what it's like to be a black person (or any other minority) in todays world.

In before MARIS61. Couldn't post fast enough to beat jlprk.

Lol, it's a 'Conspiracies and Urban Legends' thread. I'd be surprised if less than 75% of this thread was pure baiting.

We will have to agree to disagree.

This should get stickied. This thread will definitely be a good read once it gets filled.

Punitive school discipline procedures have increasingly taken hold in America’s schools. While they are detrimental to the wellbeing and to the academic success of all students, they have proven to disproportionately punish minority students, especially African American youth. Such policies feed into wider social issues that, once more, disproportionately affect minority communities: the school-to-prison pipeline, high school dropout rates, the push-out phenomenon, and the criminalization of schools.

I hit one once late at night.

At least that's what I was telling myself what is was as I was burying deep in the woods.

Well you didn't do a good job burying him, because wook is still posting.

Lizard people anyone? Makes as much sense if not more than many popular religions
