Official "Give Barton some minutes" thread

I think we all understand that he's a volume shooter, which is why I think some of us would like to see him sit if he's not hitting shots.

Thank gawd you aren't the coach or the GM. It's like everything you post is proven wrong. Watch Mo have a nice game tomorrow, and the Blazers win. Then, we won't get any pant-shitting threads until Sunday night, at the very soonest.

So out of curiosity, who was defending Lin while he was going apeshit on us last night? It's not just that Mo wasn't hitting shots, he was also giving up points at the other end. Seriously, is it THAT big of a deal to play a guy who was in the rotation for a few minutes a night? You'd think I suggested we bench Dame. Good lawd you people overreact.

I was frustrated too, but experimenting with Will Barton while limiting Mo's minutes could blow up the chemistry of the team. Anyhow, I just noticed when you posted this thread, and will acknowledge that emotion probably had a lot to do with you creating it. I'm not sure why you were vehemently defending what would seem like a panic move to me long afterward, though.

It doesn't necessarily have to be Mo. Wright was equally horrible last night, and has really only had one good game in this series.

Aren't you overreacting by starting this thread? Mo won Game 4 for us. Barton has never played in the playoffs before. We lose Game 5 and you want to shake things up when we're leading the series 3-2?

The playoffs are about adjustments. It's not like we've been dominating with the rotation that we're running. Every game has come down to the wire. You guys are acting like we blew Houston out and last night was just one fluke. Every single game could have gone either way. If Mo isn't hitting and Lin is abusing him again, I think it's a smart idea to put someone else in the game.

I hear you. I still think we should stick with what got us three wins which we earned. It wasn't blind luck.

Remember Nate, you started the thread thanking Olshey for bringing all these great vets to the team, including Mo. One game and you're saying those guys suck.

Yes, and I'm not saying we should abandon them. I'm saying that Terry needs to recognize when something isn't working and change it up. He has been stubborn about Mo all season long.

Being stubborn with Mo led to a 54-28 season, and a 3-2 edge with a closeout game at home tomorrow.

You're in a panic, bruh.

Oh goody, here comes the "54-28" argument that you used to death from the Brandon Roy years. I always loved when you trotted out that trump card.

Mo absolutely got torched last night and was abysmal on offense. There needs to be a time in the game where the coach recognizes that and pulls the plug on him.

No! You can't mess with anything at all in the rotation because we're leading in the series!!!!!

The Wizards shut down the really quick DJ Augustin by putting Ariza on him. You don't have to counter a quick player with another quick player. A good defender with length can often do the job.

Well ya.... but who? Our starters already have their hands full.

Wright.

Maybe even TRob.

Wright isn't nearly quick enough on his feet to defend Lin. That would be a horrible matchup.

Robinson is quick, but he's too uncoordinated to defend a guy that size. Barton would be a way better option to defend Lin. He's 6'5, he's long, and he's quick.

You asked who.

I didn't interpret the idea was to replace Mo with Barton, but rather to pull the plug on Mo in a crucial game if he's getting torched and also not contributing to the offensive execution or scoring. We can't just fuck around and watch Mo and Wright lose this series. If they are playing as poorly tomorrow as they did last night, yank them and put someone else in, for three to five minutes anyway. Barton and TRob both bring the kind of energy that messes up the other team's flow. If we are getting killed like last night, what's it hurt to put them in for a few minutes and see what happens? Last night, in hindsight, I doubt they'd have done worse.

This man gets me. Thank you kind sir.

I would once again like to facetiously thank Mo for lighting a fire under the Houston Rockettes team and fans. Well done. Moron.

NB3....you're shameless. As the Defender of Barton Island (my sig is proof for quite some time) The People's Champ has a way of changing things up. Not always is it great but I like:

  • that he keeps the Blazers from having such a small backcourt
  • is a very good rebounder for his size
  • pushes the ball at every opportunity
  • attacks the basket with no fear
  • gets in the passing lanes

All of those things are areas Mo struggles in. I can't stand the Dame/Mo backcourt. Will at least gives them a fighting chance to not be Lilliputian.

Come on TBTV....where are the Barton highlights? :tsktsk:

I agree. I hate when Mo and Dame are in the game together. Neither one of them is a good defender, and neither one of them is really big enough to be a shooting guard, so they just get abused. I can't wait until Mo is gone. Mostly I suggested Barton because of the things he did last night. He attacks the rim, he pushes the ball, and he has no conscience. You know he's going to be aggressive from the moment he comes into the game. It seems like Robinson feeds off him too. When they went into the game they both pushed the ball and attacked the Spurs in the paint. Yes, they're out of control at times, but that's what they do. They wreak havoc. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad, but it's always full throttle.
