I loved hearing the crowd scream "THREEE!!!" and the collective groan when Huges missed it. Shaqs post move on Bynum was absolutely beautiful, and Dwaynes sig shot was on point, even though he missed

Here's how I'm playing with the Nets:</p>

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'></p>

Starter: This player expects to be in the starting five of every game and play a significant amount of minutes.

* I want you to be the star of the team. Vince Carter
* Your position as a starter is guaranteed. Jason Kidd
* You're replaceable if an upgrade comes along. Nenad Krstic

6th Man: Usually the first man off the bench, these guys are often good enough to be starters and are the leaders on the court when substitutions are made. And yes, you can have more than one 6th Man on a team.

* We need you to bring some energy off the bench. Boki Nachbar
* You might not be a starter, but playing time will be ample. Marcus Williams
* You will have plenty of opportunities to prove yourself. Josh Boone

Role Player: This might be a defensive specialist or perimeter shooter -- someone who is on the team to perform a very specific function.

* We need some energy and depth off the bench. Boki Nachbar
* Your minutes will be limited, but you will get a chance. Antoine Wright
* We need your versatility off the bench; playing time will be sporadic. Jason Collins
* Our young players need a mentor; playing time will be limited. Uhh... Allan Houston?????? it would have been Cliffy

Prospect: This is someone who has a great deal of potential, but isn't quite ready for a full-time job in the NBA. They expect to play a few minutes each night, but won't carry much of the load.

* You will have a solid career, but you're not ready yet. I'm resigning Hassan Adams
* We believe in you, but you need more time to develop. Sean Williams

Bench Warmer: These scrubs are the Jack Haleys of the NBA, there to fill out the 12-man roster and clap a lot on the pine.

* Playing time will be very limited. Robert Hite
* You will only see playing time if we get hit with injuries. Deathblow
* We need you to fill out the roster.Pops Mensah Bonsu (I'm cutting that bum Mile Illic)
</p>

</div></p>

I'm winning the championship, and putting my points into Sean Williams. </p>

this sounds crazy! i wonder if they'd have all this stuff for psp (if it's even comin out for psp)

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'></p>

I thought you, of all people, would be pleased to read about the Association additions. On the topic of discussions taking a while, the superstars of the league tend to drag out their negotiations while the mid-tier players tend to sign rather quickly (MLE signings). When I'm playing and I have the cap room, I'm always debating whether the best strategy is to go for the superstar or fill out my team with solid mid-tier players. If you go for the gold and miss out, you'll find that you #2 through #10 options have all signed elsewhere leaving you out in the cold! It's the game GMs play every summer when the moratorium is lifted...

For the rest of you, after reading the IGN piece (which I thought was well written), I can say that there were new features that weren't even covered and finer details of the Player Roles feature that weren't mentioned. I imagine these pieces will get highlighted in future articles from other sites, so keep your eyes peeled.

Here's a couple minor tidbits that surely won't get any press, but I know you guys can appreciate; generated rookies will no longer have generic shoes, shot types, etc. You're now going to see rookies coming out with various shoes and a host of shot types. Also, shoe colors will change to match the colors of the new team after a player is traded. We managed to address a number of "little things" such as these; you'll surely come across plenty more as you play the game.

On the topic of CAP slots, since I've seen a fair amount of debate on it, 200 is the magic number this year.</p>

</div></p>

That's sick, the CAP limit in 2k7 was 20. I don't create fake players, but I always have to create the NBA players that aren't in the game (they always have a few). Finally, we can have complete rosters and not have to worry about picking the top 20 you want in the game.</p>

I can't wait, the information tonight has been remarkable. I'm blown away by everything I've seen/read about NBA 2k8, and these next 25 days are going to go by much slower than I originally anticipated.</p>

200 CAPS??????? Holy clusterf***** thats amazing.</p>

just gonna chime in on a few things. first off, since I've posted this the past 2 years, guess I'll post it again. don't expect to be able to fairly evaluate our game (or any game for that matter) based on a few short video clips and trailers. remember people saying how much 2k7 looked like 2k6 when the first vids were released? it's a completely different experience when you get your hands on the thing. there's so much stuff we've done both cosmetically and under the hood in 2k8 that you're never going to get a good feel for until you actually spend some quality time with the game. from the animation content to the AI, you guys are just going to love the depth that we've put into this title as you work your way through your seasons. I mean, I work on the thing every day and I still look forward to playing a few games every night before I go to bed. I don't like building up hype and I don't want anyone to have unrealistic expectations, but man... 2k8 really makes 2k7 look and feel... old.

about the cell phone bars. the number of bars represent a player's proficiency from that given range, not tendency... although the 2 are usually very closely related. the color of the bars represent the player's streak status (neutral, hot or cold.) the hotspot data from nba.com is also incorporated into this system. so for example, if bruce bowen has 3 bars from 3PT range, he might get up to 4 bars when he's set up behind the arc in the corners. for 360, we also rumble the controller very subtly when a player is in a hot zone for further feedback.

and yes, we've added logic for non-PGs like Lamar Odom and Bron Bron to set up the offense.

lastly, since several people have inquired... we've added other attributes that you guys requested to help further differentiate players. Along with Shoot in Traffic & Shoot off dribble, we've hooked up Quickness, Vertical, Hustle, Strength, On-ball Defense, and Standing Dunk. There might be a couple more but those are the ones I remember off the top of my head.</p>

</div></p>

First thing I do when I get my game is i'm editing rosters (shameless). Sean Williams is getting a 99 for standing dunk and vertical. holla!</p>

</div></p>

The first thing I do when I get my game every year is fix the rosters, as well. I don't cheat and totally re-tool the ratings or overrate my favortie players, but I mainly just make sure the rosters are correct, each player's height/jersey #/etc. is correct, and if there are any ratings or sig shots that I just don't agree with, then I'll change them a bit. I have to have everything 100% realistic before I play. The rosters need to be set.</p>

It's the little things that bug me, too. For example, last year, they had Shane Battier with the wrong jersey number and I had to correct at least 25 heights (probably more than that, I made sure they were all right). </p>

Yeah while we're at it gamespot just unveiled even more details about association mode that are worth checking out. CB and I are both on OS so we're usually quick to post when new info breaks.</p>

And in response to the posts above...I may or may not have given Jason Kidd a 92 for 3-Pt shooting. The jury is out. </p>

Wow, 2k8 is sounding more and more amazing the more I hear about it. I was contemplating about switching back to Live this year, but 2k8 sounds too good.</p>

</p>

</p>

Now I got a question: Will 2k8's dunk contest be a seperate playable mode, meaning I can go pick the dunkers and play it right away, or will I have to play through 24/7 mode or something?</p>

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Also, shoe colors will change to match the colors of the new team after a player is traded.</div></p>

i love this. i always hated having to go through every player, and making sure all their shoes looked right with the colors. IMO this is a must have feature</p>

The good news is that you can play in the 3-point and dunk contest right from the main menu. The bad news, is that it hasn't been confirmed if this has made its way into Association mode (in other words, wheter or not theres a full all-star weekend) </p>

Agreed. I remember for some reason, T.J. Ford got traded twice in my Association that I played two seasons of in 2k7, and he still had gear that matched Toronto's uniforms when he was playing for Denver. I had to edit it.</p>

BIG NEWS</p>

The Demo is coming out tonight, at 2am.</p>

</p>

Also, the right stick (originally for shooting), can be switched for dribble moves. It can also be callibrated to be a dribble stick, and a shot stick when the left stick is pressed at the same time. Wowie</p>

Have fun tonight fellas, I left my 360 at home so you'll have to tell me how it is.</p>

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (CelticKing)</div><div class='quotemain'>so you guys recommend 2k8 over live?</div></p>

Easily... no question. You can go check out my observations about the NBA 2k8 demo in the "Fun & Games" section, if you'd like. Live has nothing on 2k as far as gameplay and realism is concerned. I'm a huge 2k fan, but even the demo absolutely blew me away and greatly exceeded my expectations... and the comforting part about that is that it's not even the final build!</p>

2k always has and always will be better than Live. </p>

</p> gotta disagree with you there. 2k5 sucked ass. i'm not sure about anything after that, tho, i believe that's when 2k got better then live, in the '06 version.

I was a 2k3 guy, and then went with Live for 04 and 05. I was a 2k6, and 2k7 guy...and now the balance is restored.</p>

If you watch and NBA game and want to replicate what you see on the TV...then got with a TV game.</p>

If not, go with LIve.</p>

2k3 was the best 2k game yet. 2k-2k3 have been the best in the series. Then 2k4 was just a big decline, leading up to the horrible 2k5. 2k6 was also horrible, and very glitchy. 2k7 was an okay game. Live was definitely better in 2006, but Live didn't build properly on 2006, letting 2k win in 07, but its not the glorious victory that the people on these boards will try to make it look like, because they're all major 2k fanboys, so you have to take what they say with a grain of salt a lot of time.</p>

Currently, I'd rank them: 1. NBA 0* 2. NBA 2k* 3. NBA Live *</p>

But it looks like NBA 2k8 will be the best in the series, or at least one of the better ones, a redemption game, returning it to the dreamcast and early ps2 levels.</p>

definitely. i had 2k3 as well, it so much fun. then skipped to live 05. went to live 06, then NBA 07 for psp (cause that's what my bro got me for christmas...)</p>

i think i might have to go with live this year, since i have no choice....2k isn't gonna be for psp </p>

Go with NBA 08 if your buying for PSP. I had NBA 06 for PSP, and that was a great portable game imho. The gameplay was a lot like NBA2k3. The poor player ratings, and lack of updatabilityi (which I assume isn't a problem any more) were the main problems with the game, and the fact that there wasn't a franchise mode (there probably is one now), but gameplay wise, that was a helluva fun game. Ben Gordon was pretty good on that game too, I used to play that game in my engineering class all the time (I got Madden with my PSP, but thought the Madden on there wasn't fun...but later found I just don't like playing football games anymore, and that the Madden was a solid rendition). But yeah, definitely get NBA 08 for PSP, its bound to be great.

Hahaha thats extactly like me, I had 2K3, then got Live 2004 cause VC was on the cover since then I played Live 05 & 06 and was disapointed because nothing had really changed in terms of gameplay, just a couple of tweaks so then I went to 2K7. </p>

i had NBA 07, and it was honestly somewhat of a disappointment. although it's a pretty fun game to play, and much better than Live on the psp, it doesn't offer alot, and the defense is strange. also, the fact that at times, it is IMPOSSIBLE for any team to score (including the Suns, and the Warriors) in the hardest difficulty is a bit annoying. everything about the gameplay just seems a bit off. plus, the realistic-ness is not there at all...making any trades with no worry of salary caps is annoying.</p>

hopefully, either NBA 08 or NBA live has stepped their games up. </p>

i might end up getting both Live 08 and NBA 08 and compare, see which ones are better...</p>

Big question: Anyone getting it for playstation 2? And is it worth it getting it on ps2?

Yeah, I just played the demo, FIRE! Everything runs so smoothly. It's realistic, the crowd is amazing, and players act with emotion. I'd definitely recommend getting it over Live this year. 2K8 kicks ass!

I think they are a little shaky, personally. I'm very happy about us being the best team in the East, of course, but there are issues. Here are my thoughts:</p>
<ul style="margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;">
[*]San Antonio should be the highest rated team in the game. They are the champions and their defense really sets them apart from Phoenix, despite the amazing offensive talent down there.
[*]Dallas all the way down at 76? The only reason they are so underrated in the game is because this game is produced by Warriors fans, which is also why Golden State's individual player ratings are too high. It's one thing to be biased, but come on, this is absurd. They are undoubtedly one of the top few teams in the league.
[*]Detroit should be above Chicago.
[*]So the Mavs are all the way down at 76, but the Lakers are up at 77? Riiiiiight....
[*]I was unaware that Golden State, Charlotte, and Memphis were better teams than Cleveland.
rolleyes.gif
A healthy Clipper team is debatable, though, and I think Cleveland would particularly have a tough problem with that matchup.
[*]Washington and Orlando are a little underrated.
<ul style="margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;">
[*]Indiana is overrated, I think they are one of the worst teams in the league, possibly the worst in the East.
[*]I can't stand the Knicks or anything about their franchise, excluding David Lee and Mardy Collins, but 62 seems awful low. They should be a top 10-11 seed in the East this year, with an outside shot at making the playoffs (extremely doubtful, but possible). They aren't the worst team in the league, especially in a video game when you're considering overall ratings and talent.
But hey, I can at least confidently say that these are much better than Live's team ratings.</p>
