I find it amusing that a 6 time Stanley Cup champion Mark Messier sees something in Rempe that the arm chair QBs don't. I'm with the Captain, Matt has skills and scored a playoff goal. Guessing these are the same evaluators who have been saying be patient with Kakko. Looking forward to seeing Rempe in the lineup full time next year.
 
Messier has always loved having an enforcer on a team, but you have to remember you can have a guy like that who barely plays when you’re Mark Messier, one of the greatest players of all time and you had Brian Leach superstar two defenseman. You also have to remember that Messier played in a different time. There was a lot of goon action and even in the playoffs when teams lost they would often fight after games to send a message. That’s not the case anymore.

Yeah, that one just stands out to me for some reason, not because McLeods been anything special, but just reaching badly. Lindbom is terrible.
 
Please Dump, it was only a few years ago Wilson was rag dolling the Breadman while Mika watched holding his stick much firmer than he did in the playoffs, It cost JD his job. I'm more interested in Rempe's hitting ability and the only reason he's getting shade here is because of inconsistent NHL enforcement. The fact that he can fight is a huge bonus, he's more than a goon, tough guy to move from the crease as we also saw in the playoffs. You're touting the 5'10" Sykora as a 4th line alternative? Think Rempe has earned a further look after 17 impressive regular season games.
 
You’re overestimating the value of a guy like Rempe. It’s bordering on pathetic. Rempe might be needed for 20 to 25 regular season games that’s about it. Rempe isn’t ever going to negate what Florida did to the Rangers in the postseason. Players like Othmann, Sykora, Laba and Cuylle can when the get enough experience.
 
I don't count Cuylle think he's already earned a spot on next year's roster. I'm not overestimating Rempe's value, he's a 4th liner that addresses a need. Othman and Sykora should be pushing for the 3rd line.
 
Just get some winners on this team. Dont care about bottom 9 wolf pack players. Get some winners here
 
To each his own but I have no idea why Rempe is still being talked about.
 
Watching the final so far, I think the Rangers were a lot better than people thought. Edmonton had to cheap shot Barkov to have any chance.
 
Like the Rangers, if their PP isn't coming through it's a tough ask.
 
Not trying to troll but legit gotta be hurting seeing Edmonton getting rolled so easily knowing you guys would’ve been doing the same to them if you got two more wins. This legit could’ve been your cup

I truly hope that Drury and the Rangers leadership don't fall into that trap.
 
I find it funny that the Ottawa front office is like we are building this team around Brady. That's nice. I don't think he gives a shit. Especially when you can't get a goalie in there or anybody that can play defense.
 
Goodrow was waived today, good move IMO. If worst case happens and they buy him out, they actually save money this upcoming season:

A Goodrow buyout would give the Rangers a cap credit of $247,222 in the first year, but it would become a dead-cap charge of $1,002,778 next season before they are dinged with a $3,502,778 hit in 2026-27. There’s also a lingering $1.111 million charge over the following three seasons.

If they have to buy him out, there is only one season that is an issue, 26-27 when they will have a big $3.5M dead cap hit. Outside of gaining money this coming season, the rest is $1M or $1.1M of dead cap hit, which is not bad at all.

Seravelli was throwing around Kane returning now that he's healthy. It's unlikely Goodrow will be claimed so that will give them some options at least. I wouldn't buy him out, as at worst he goes to Hartford.
 
They would be nuts to not keep Goodrow. He’s one of the few son of a bitches that actually knows how to play in the playoffs. Kane. I don’t know. He was really great once in the postseason, but he’s small also and I don’t know how much he has left. Can he play with the two dumbasses? I’d rather they get St. Louis to pay half Buchnevich’s salary and bring him back.
 
Couldn't disagree more, Goodrow is not worth close to $3.6M per season. Let a kid play on the 4th line over him. Yes, he had a nice handful plus of games in the playoffs, but outside of that he did very little.

As for Hartford, that seems totally pointless to me to save $1.15M per season against the cap, which is all you can bury in the minors. Put another way, we'd have nearly $2.5M of dead money for Goodrow if he is in the minors. Ultimately, he'll be gone either via claim, trade, or buyout, and it is the right move. Again, outside of one bad season, the buyout cap hit is really not bad at all. $1M or $1.1M for 4 years, and we actually gain extra cap space in 24-25. Hopefully someone claims him, or we can trade him, and the whole cap hit is gone.

One thing seems clear, they will add a very good RW to play with Kreider and Zibanejad. I have seen Toffoli's name mentioned, not sure I love that, but he is a possibility as a UFA, I guess.

Only a Satherite would be happy with waiving Goodrow especially after resigning that dickless wonder Krappo. Continuing the decades of cluelessness on how to win playoff hockey.
 
Even last year when the team shit the bed against the Debs Goodrow single handedly won a game for the Rangers. Trading Krappo and bringing up a kid saves more money.
 
Goodrow is severely overpaid for what he does. He is a fourth liner who they can replace with the guy who gets paid a league minimum and brings the same shit.
 
I don’t like the move . Yes he makes a lot but he is a top tier bottom 6 guy. He’s capable of 15g 20a. He’s great in the playoffs. If their window is a couple more years I’d rather have him than a handful of playoff duds. The team got worse today
 
They didn’t get worse. They need to improve top lines. They have too many bottom liners. Edstrom can be Goodrow for a league minimum and he also brings size
 
I think Goodrow is being a bit overrated based on a solid playoff run this year. He has scored more than 11 goals once in his career (13 is his max), has 15 total goals over the past two seasons (162 games), and in the prior two playoff runs for the Rangers he has 1 goal and 2 total points in 16 games (had never scored more than 2 goals in any playoff run). To be fair he isn't here to be a goal scorer, he was brought here to add leadership and play on the 3rd line for $3.6M, and he cannot be a 3rd line guy on a good team, and is way overpaid for a 4th line guy, which is what he is. If he were making $1.6M okay keep him, but not at $3.6M.

It is on Drury to utilize that money in a much better way, and then give a kid a 4th line chance, or worst case go sign another Goodrow type for $1.5M +/-, which can be done.
 
I don't think Rempe or Edstrom are long term answers, but Sykora seems like he should be a solid bottom six guy. Othmann you'd think should be ready to take a spot. Maybe they go after someone like Martinook.

That would be big for the Rangers. Shedding Goodrow's full $3.642M cap hit is a great start to doing some meaningful things this summer. We'll know by 2 PM tomorrow if he was claimed.


By placing Goodrow on waivers, the Rangers allow themselves some cap flexibility no matter what happens.

Though there is belief there is a pre-arranged deal for the Sharks to claim Goodrow, who spent the first six seasons of his NHL career in San Jose.
