Official other teams injuries vs Portland thread

Now you're talking! Unfortunately, that was not the intention of this thread. The intent was right there in the subject line - keeping track of POR's "luckiness" against other teams. In isolation, this seems useless to me.

BNM
At least it won't keep you awake at night.

If I were using that information to compare the Blazers' record to other teams, then sure, your claim holds water. I'm not, so it doesn't.

So, what's the point then? Are we lucky, or not? Does everyone else in the West have fewer than 3 lucky wins? More than 3 lucky wins? Exactly 3 lucky wins? You're isolated data point is useless without context.

BNM

It would make your head spin is all. Injuries happen and all teams get chances to both take advantage and deal with them.

Yep, that was my point last season when all this nonsense started and it remains my point. Tracking our "lucky" win in isolation is meaningless and tells us nothing of value. The one article I saw that summarized it all last year basically showed that all the teams were we compering with for the 3 - 9 spots had between 7 and 9 "lucky" wins. POR was right smack in the middle with 8. Given that Butler, Harden and Davis have all missed multiple games, I suspect it will all even out over the course of an 82-game season, just like it did last year.

But that doesn't fit the POR is lucky narrative. So, let's ONLY keep track of our lucky wins so we can thank our lucky stars for how lucky we are.

BNM

Doesn't matter to me if they win lucky, win ugly, win big, win small, win going away, limp to the win, win wild, win in OT, win in double OT, win on the road, win at home, win when i watch, win when i can't watch, win when it's raining, win when it's snowing, win when Leonard plays, win against former Blazers, OR WIN WHEN THE OTHER TEAM HAS AN INJURED PLAYER.

Just as long as they win.

Believe it or not, whether or not the isolated data point is of use to you is kind of irrelevant.

There are some posters who are interested in looking at and considering this aspect of the team's performance. Why does it bother you so much?

I didn't read this thread, but I think we need an "Official other teams' injuries vs other teams thread".

I'm not going to make it though. Don't have time for that. Or principle. Or interest.

Well, since nobody said that the standings should be adjusted, I'm going to go ahead and not do that. But thanks for the mockery and sarcasm; it's always welcome.

He's right tho, snarky or not.

So wait? Portland has been without their starting SF pretty much all season. That has to account for something also right?

Yes his statement that disputes nothing that anybody in this thread has said is completely accurate. No argument here.

You think that's what they're doing?

I believe it to be nothing but ragging on our team to say negative things about our success. Frankly.

An opinion to which you're welcome. I generally prefer to assume the best about people's motives. For instance, this post right here makes perfect sense, and isn't negative or "ragging on the team" at all.

I think it's useful because it gives us a better feel for how good the team is really.

For example, I don't take the Pelicans game into account when i try to think of: "has the team improved from last year?" or "What tier does this team belong to?".

Just a personal hot button. I got so tired of hearing how lucky the Blazers were last year when the same stars that were missing games against us were also missing games against the rest of the West.

Especially after I saw the data that proved it was bullshit. As I'd been preaching all along, when it came to facing other teams missing their best player(s), we were no more, or less, lucky that any of the other teams were we fighting against for playoff seeding.

BNM

Nobody calls us lucky when we beat MIL or Utah.

For the record, Avery Bradley has been awful this year, even on defense. I'm not so sure his absence is a good thing for the Blazers.

But it always seems that certain players have good games against the Blazers and Bradley is one of them. I have absolutely no stats to back that statement up. Totally off of apparent past games. I didn't even look at Bradley's history against the Blazers. That might not even be that good? So please don't hold me to that statement.

Yeah, I'm aware that he usually locks Dame up pretty well. I'm not sure if this year's version is capable of that but you're probably right that if he was going to start playing better it would probably be against us. I guess we'll never know.

Steph Curry is probably going to miss the Blazers game next week. He is out 10 more days at least.

Tonight's LAL injury report:

No current injuries to report.

So, if we win tonight, it actually counts, right? Asking for a friend.

BNM
You would think so but since we have continuity advantages over all the other teams (except GS and Den) people will find a way for it not to count as much.

PS I'm getting really sick of just about every national person using the word continuity to explain our good start.
