This year is over. I don't want to hear from the optimists in our fan base. The Rangers should be one of the most interesting sellers in recent memory at the deadline because of the 4 or 5 players they will put out there. Those would be Girardi, Boyle, Callahan, Brassard and possibly Staal.

Brassard will have some decent value at the deadline because of his playoffs last season. Boyle for some reason always plays well in the playoffs. Anybody who thinks Callahan should not be offered up at the deadline is a moron. There is NO gain by keeping him. He is a perfect playoff rental for a team. He is a good playoff player. He will be fresh and well rested. His return will be stout and they can possibly resign him after the season. Same with Girardi. Honestly, I don't see them keeping either. I think this team moves in a different direction.

They need to acquire a crap load of picks and prospects and go in a different direction. They had a 5 year window with this team, got to the conference finals once. The window is closed. Time to try an open another one before Hank is ancient. They have an opportunity for a quick rebuild if Sather doesn't screw it up.

I forgot Talbot who should be a major piece to deal. Zucc as well. On one hand, when you lose 2 studs like Sauer and Staal to fluke injuries and they are finished, it's incredible bad luck and a huge hit to your organization. On the other hand, I hate what Sather has done lately. Asham, Pyatt, Pouliot, D. Moore, Falk, ect..... You talk yourself into being positive when these moves are being made, but the reality is they all sucked. Sather has 2 huge flaws right now.

One, he puts nothing into getting guys who can win faceoffs. Two, he puts nothing into getting role playing forwards and defenseman who are tough, can hit and are hard to play against. They don't have to be fighters. They just have to be tough, physical players. Other than Dorsett, look at the role players on this team.

Pyatt- Soft, slow, easily knocked off the puck, no offensive skill.
Boyle - Slow, lazy, soft in half his games, almost no offensive skill
Pouliot - Lazy, soft, doesn't know how to use his offensive skill
D. Moore - Soft, weak, no offensive skill
Asham - Lazy, slow, only offensive skill is shooting the puck
Brassard - He's playing like a lazy, unmotivated, slow role player.

Basically, that is two lines of forwards. It's not surprising this team blows. Those moves are all Sather.

Cally will not be dealt. If anything all his injuries this season are a plus. It will lower his cap number for his new deal. He should be in the 4's per season for sure now.
Girardi and MDZ are simple to me. Sather needs to decide what the plan is for those two. If he will re-sign them, then don't deal them. If we will not re-sign them, and by now we have an idea of what they want on their new deals so Sather should know, then you deal them. Pretty simple IMO.
Brassard is the same as Girardi and MDZ. Re-sign or no???
Boyle, Pyatt, D. Moore all should go for even mid to low round picks if possible.
Staal it all comes down to health. If he comes back and plays a few weeks before the trade DL, I am sure he will have some value. Even a mid prospect or pick. I cannot see us bringing him back after next season.
Even Richards I would take anything for. Saves us a buyout this summer, and the risk of him getting injured before this summer. Doubtful we can move him, but who knows.

With all this BS being said, and how pathetic this team looks right now, just remember there is no long re-build needed here. We have a solid core. A great goalie. AND with minimum 37.5 mill in cap space we can be right on top next season with the right moves this summer. No doubt about it. This can and will be a way different team next season. Question is can Sather get it done correctly this time? I have my concerns, but he will have every chance to make this a SC team this summer. No doubt about it.

I disagree. I think Cally will be dealt. I think they will get a late first and a very good, NHL ready prospect for him. That would be the right move.

We disagree there 100% dump. I don't think he gets dealt. And no way do I think it is the right move to deal him. I think it is a bad move to deal him. I would not do it. The only way I would do it is if he is demanding some huge raise that puts him over 5.5 mill per season cap hit wise, and after this season I find it hard to believe that is the case. How can he justify that?

Outside of that being the case, and very doubtful it is, no way I deal Cally. You are just way down on him right now, which I fully get, and it is clouding your opinion at the moment I think.

I'll tell you one major problem as well. Lundy has not played well at all this season except for a couple of games. He's constantly giving up the big goal. I know we don't like blaming him but take the Jersey game on Saturday for instance. He needs to stop that Ryder shot.

So far this season sucks bigtime but is not over yet. We are still hanging in and this division is weak. I'll wait to see what trades if any sather makes now and by the deadline before deciding. Right now though kristo needs to immediately be brought up for starters and let the kid play and see if he can give us an offensive boost

The mini restart in the offseason is perfect, there is SO MUCH dead weight on this team that comes off at seasons end its great. Trade MDZ and Girardi. I would keep Staal and hope that his concussion isnt serious. Callys injuries keeps him from getting more than 5m. This could be a blessing.

The positives are Kreider developing and Talbot being a very good backup goalie out of nowhere. I hope AV is able to mold this team to his liking, time will tell.

NY31, you are living in a dream world. This team lost 2 stud defenseman to injury and their career is over. Had to trade for a first line forward and give up 2 3rd line players. Essentially, this team needs 3 new defenseman, 5 forwards. It happens. This team isn't going anywhere. They need to do a quick rebuild and write this year off and move in a new direction.

This team is finished this year and you can hear it in the voice of the coach who said he doesn't have what he needs.

The deadline hasn't even passed and Sather may wake up from his coma and do something. The division also BLOWS. As bad as we've been the past few games, we're only 1pt out of 3rd place (and a PO spot).

Just like things have unexpectedly turned bad, they can unexpectedly turn good, just as fast. To bail on a season so early is awful.

In some ways this group is better off playing a bit slower since they dont have the size and shutdown dmen to stop others in firewagon type games. And most of them cant shoot straight anyways if the get a 3/2 2/1.

They may not be winning it all this year, but i see no reason why they can't make it into the playoffs given how awful our division is. Even then, once you're in the PO's maybe Hank gets hot and steals a couple rounds for us, who knows.

But my main point is how can anyone give up on the season this early? I agree this team is flawed, i said this many times during the season how we needed a top scorer and more offense altogether, but many here were saying how we were just a 20gl scorer short and that's it. If you look at the team right now, we need way more than 1 decent player.

That said, when you look at our division, who does realistically scare you? PIT you know will be there b/c Fleury doesn't fold til the playoffs, but i think that's it. The Caps don't convince me despite Ov's unconscious scoring this year, and everyone else in the division is at or below .500. That's a terrible division.

I'm with you 31, I'm not saying season is lost either. There was a run not too long ago where people on here were signing this team's praises big time. I will say though, if Sather doesnt somehow get an impact forward here, we'll be lucky to get in.

No doubt they can make the playoffs still. That's a given considering how much time is left, and where we sit at the moment. But the reality is we are not winning a cup, or making an SCF run, or making an ECF run. Maybe we win a round if everything broke perfectly right and/or we made a trade (similar to last season). But this team is not going very far barring something major happening.

As such, like I said earlier this week, any deals I make for this season would also have an eye on next season. No quick fix deals that hurt us for next season. I just don't think that makes sense at this point unless something really changes from now until the trade DL.

Sorry, not drinking the delusional cool-aid a few of you are. This team had no 3rd and 4th line as it was. Now, you lose Callahan for 6 weeks, Staal of our defenseman core. This team is screeeeeeeewed. This season basically has a NY Giants feel to it. A year where everything goes wrong.

It's also not smart to wait for UFA. One, you overpay with UFA. Two, with 95% of all GM's being morons, if you look at these teams, the moron GM's lock all their players for the most part up for 4 to 6 years. While that might seem smart, it's actually very stupid. What that does is block prospects who need a chance and will be cheap for years. Those teams who do that then hope to trade players with those long term contracts for a good return. In reality, they shouldn't get squat for them. For example, St. Louis has to sign Steen. You could trade for Stewart for basically nothing who has one more year on his contract. You could probably offer then Hrvik and a 4th rounder for him. They have about 4 guys they need to salary dump to keep Halak and Steen. There are lots of teams in situations like that.

Only FA's I would really have interest in up front are Vrbata and Bolland. The rest of the mess I would try to fix with deals.

I like Stastny, Moulson, and Ott as well dump. Not if I had to way overpay, but on reasonable solid deals I like all 3 of those guys.

As for deals, that's kind of my point also. Make some good deals this season with an eye on next season. That's what I would do. Girardi (if we are out of it) and/or MDZ have to go. That simple really. I very highly doubt we re-sign both. So deal the one you won't re-sign. To hold both, and then have at least one just walk this summer, is beyond stupid. One for sure should be dealt by the trade DL this season. And we will get a nice return also since decent dmen go for a lot at the DL.

Vrbata and Bolland would be nice additions. Bolland would be more productive than Brassard and has more grit. Maybe sign a Hainsey or Niskanen to help round out the d corps. Theyll probably need at least two outside D. Would love to see a Yandle deal but thats probably not happening.

Much rather go via trades. Acquire picks and near ready NH prospects who will play for you on the cheap for 3-5 years. UFA just cost so much money. Vrbata and Bolland are two guys I like a ton. Other than that, pass.

With all that upcoming cap space i think we'll see at least 3-4 signings, especially with all the outgoing goose crap. Maybe they try and fill the 4th line with any of Lindberg Fast or Hrivik but i think they need an outside guy with experience too. We'll see if Kristo is ready to take a 3rd line spot too.
