I wrote about the C situation above if we give up Step. Do we really want our 4 deep to be Richards-Brassard-Moore-Boyle? I'm nauseous thinking about it.

WPG isn't really a win-now team. I tell them take DZ, Miller, and any prospect you want other than McIlrath. If they insist on an NHL ready guy I say take Hags. I don't want to give up Step but if we do, it means the brass thinks this year is over and we restock at C during free agency.

We are on the same page 100% Prod. I don't see why we would have to deal Stepan in a package for Kane. If we make Miller, Hags, MDZ, a decent pick and/or a prospect available, that should be enough.

If WPG wants to get ridiculous value for Kane, value that would be pretty much solely based on his potential not his actual production, let someone else deal for him. I don't think we are in a position to deal a ton for a player who has been very good, but not great/dominant so far.

Outside of his 30 goal 57 point season, his numbers have just been okay, and that's the fact of it. Yes he is young. And yes there are other factors involved for sure. But I can't give up Step and a lot for a player who's numbers are pretty much the same as Stepan's so far.

We go no where by trading steph for kane....its a very minimal lateral move..aka vanick for moulson...it doesn't solve the answer. Losing a capable center for a scoring winger only will show the lack of depth at center and then it will be..we need a center to setul kane and nash

This awful smurf team is finished, and they need so much more than a mini rebuild. It is time to start over completely, top to bottom, and if Sather still gets to do it, there is no realistic hope for years. For myself, the only people I keep are Hank, McD, Kreider, Zucs, Hags, and maybe Cally. I consider JT Miller to be a prospect so he can stay. Everyone else can go bye bye.

Cally/would think of keeping him because he's the only one that until this year, played with that "refuse to lose" attitude. Maybe his shoulder isn't right or is still a bit cautious about really laying it on the line for fear of hurting it again.

Boyle, Dorsett, Poulliot, Moore, Pyatt/what needs to be said. They all stink and should be gone.

Mr. Softy, Nash. I don't get the love affair with this guy. Scored 40 a million years ago for a loser team. He basically hung at the blue line to pad his stats because his team was so bad there was nothing else he needed to do. Hasn't been close to 40 in years. Plays soft, has a loser mentality after a decade of losing, no edge to his game, and has been invisible in every big game we played last year. Make all the excuses you want for him. He's not a leader and not someone you build a team around.

Stepan/ has talent but is small, slow, easily knocked off the puck.

Richards/slow, older, too much money, not great anymore. We all know this.

Brassard/has some talent but doesn't usually use it, small, easily pushed around, and exactly what he was with CBJ.

Stralman/ average at best, 6/7 dman on a top team

Moore/good skater but doesn't use his size, so often out of position. Should get more grief than MDZ but for some reason doesn't.

MDZ/just hasn't developed the way most of us had hoped

Girardi/not playing well and not a kid anymore. Maybe he's just not adapting to the new coach or system. Could probably bring something good in return.

Falk/just not that good, slow, fumbles the puck a lot. Could get better but really, how much.

Staal/after the eye injury and 2 concussions may never get back to what he was.

Desperately need to make this team bigger, stronger, faster, and tough to play against. There are so many slow guys and small guys on this team. Count the smallish forwards. Hags, Zucs, Brassard, Cally, Stepan. That is 5 out of the top 6. The few bigger guys we have are total marshmallows. No protectors, hitters, or tough dmen. Geez, this is the softest team in the league right now. Henrik gets elbowed to the head and no one does anything. Can you imagine if that happened to Rask? Anyone who thinks this team is making the playoffs or just needs a mini rebuild is dreaming.

The team will be re-built this summer. We have too many FA's for it not to be. I think we have 1/2 the forwards and 1/2 the dmen changed for next season. That is a re-build, and we have the cap space and free agents to get it done. Add in a top 5 or so pick, and things are in place IF it is done correctly. And there is the issue fellas...will it be done correctly.

Excellent post, NYR. I would keep Stepan though and I can live with Dorsett on the 4th line.

Stepupstepan, I do like your namesake, but his lack of speed and size bothers me. If he was the 3rd line center, with 2 bigger and faster centers on the 1st 2 lines, I'd be fine with him there. I do believe we'd get a pretty good return for him though.

Chuck, I hear what you're saying, but the FA route never works. If you've already built a team, and need 1 or 2 FA's to get over the hump, that works. Having to get as many players as we need, it'll be a collection of individuals playing for themselves, not a "team" playing for each other. Do the years 2000-2004 ring a bell? Time to suffer for a few years, get picks and young kids, and let them grow together like we did a few years ago. It's the hard way but the right way. Our biggest problem will be the same as always. SATHER.

Again, the key is SMART SIGNINGS. That is the issue. I have little faith in Sather to do that, but that is what we need to do.

The plan to sell of players, get picks, and we'll meet up again in 2018 doesn't work...just doesn't. We are not wasting the rest of Hank's prime with crappy teams for 4 years. We won't do it, and shouldn't.

Take the top 5 pick. Take the 37.5 mill in cap space. Take the nice core and great goalie. Make smart moves this summer. We can be near the top next season if we do it right. That's the key...SATHER.

Said it 100 times. 3rd and 4th line players are too soft, too lazy and aren't hard to play against. Defense is soft. Second line center is not good enough. Second line center you either have to draft, trade for or sign as a UFA. Neither will be easy to do. The role players can be fixed pretty easily by renting Cally, Girardi, Boyle and Brassard.

Its pretty nuch a major makeover on the way when you can count the keepers on one hand. HL CK RN DS and RMc. Miller who knows id use him in the right deal.

Actually we already have a good 2nd line center. His name is Derek Stepan. It's a 1st line center that's going to be difficult to get.

The saddest part is that any die hard Rangers fan will continue to watch this crappy team until they are dead. Thus, why we need to bitch because we will still watch the games. Even when they are down 3-0, turn the channel, you find yourself daring to believe in these imbeciles and you switch back every 5 minutes to see if they finally don't suck any longer.

Chuck, I respect your view, but disagree for a couple or reasons. No team has ever won the cup this way. A #5 pick usually doesn't have an impact right away. Sather's track record of smart FA signings is pitifully bad, but now were supposed to expect he'll be like 6 for 6 in one single year. He hasn't made 6 good signings in 15 years. It won't work.

Agree to disagree. See you in 2018 I guess 62. Might as well turn the Rangers off until then if we go your route. I just hope we can find a goalie, because with your plan Hank will be 37, and we'll need a new goalie as well.

Pop back in then and we'll see if we can win that cup in 2018.

Bottom line is we are NOT doing some big re-build here, whether you or anyone thinks we should or not...won't happen. You don't re-sign Hank for what we did. Add Nash at 7.8 per. Re-sign McDonagh for what we did. You don't do all that to re-build for 3 or 4 years. NOT HAPPENING.

They will take a good pick this summer, combined with a ton of cap space, and a good core and try and add the pieces we need around that to win big. That is the formula I believe they had in mind the minute they hired AV and saw the cap coming down 6 mill this season.

Is what it is, but that's the "plan" we are on. Let's hope they make the right moves to finish off the team this summer. That is where we should all be at mentally right now.

1962 has never liked Nash. He hasn't been good enough and hasn't been as good as I thought but this team would not be any better with Dubinsky and AA in lineup instead of Nash. He missed almost 20 games and still will likely score 25 goals but I agree its not good enough. He needs to be better. But this team has pieces to improve if they drop half the roster which is dead weight. The good news is they are in a position to do that. The bad news is the same GM who has gotten 1 ECF in 13 years will be the one making the decisions and that just sucks. Be depressed about that, not about the sky is falling this team has no talent.

The team over the next couple of years can be in pretty good shape. Lundqvist despite his problems the first 35 games is still a top 3 goalie. Elite players have bad years. The problem is he did it in a year where the roster is garbage because we have a bunch of guys designed to play a Torts grind it out style.

This thread isn't about Nash, but there is not one thing I've said about him you could say I've been wrong about. This thread is about what happens from here with the team. Chuck, they'll probably go your way because Sather isn't leaving anytime soon. When I say total rebuild, that includes Sather. There is no reason it has to take your arbitrary 5 years. Could be done in 2-3 if done right. You think the man who has failed at virtually every FA singing he's made is suddenly going 6 for 6. Dream on. They'll do it your way, the team will continue to flounder, maybe eke into the playoffs, win a round if they're lucky, and whoop de dam do. I want to win a cup. So you think you'll see me in 2018? Your way, I'll see you never, because the proven to fail every time way of trying to buy a cup will fail again like it has every time before. Hope you enjoy dreamland, because that is where you continue to stay. For those of us in reality world, buying a cup never has and never will work, doubly so with Glen making the moves.

If we make the right moves this summer it can be done 62. The issue I see with what you are saying, besides the fact that we will be punting on the next 2 or 3 seasons which will never happen, is you assume the wrong moves will be made this summer. I have to hope we make the right moves to get this team finished off correctly.

Now we agree Sather is a joke, and should be gone yesterday, but I am saying what they will do CAN be done, if we make the right moves this summer. Will Sather make the right moves to get it done correctly??? Unlikely based on his terrible record here, but it can be done, and that is the way we wil go for better or worse.

Agreed, and we can fix it this summer, BUT we need to make the right moves. They are out there, but will we do it correctly???

I think they should make that Franson deal this week, even if it means throwing in a good prospect with DZ. Franson has a decent ceiling.

This year is over. I don't want to hear from the optimists in our fan base. The Rangers should be one of the most interesting sellers in recent memory at the deadline because of the 4 or 5 players they will put out there. Those would be Girardi, Boyle, Callahan, Brassard and possibly Staal.

Brassard will have some decent value at the deadline because of his playoffs last season. Boyle for some reason always plays well in the playoffs. Anybody who thinks Callahan should not be offered up at the deadline is a moron. There is NO gain by keeping him. He is a perfect playoff rental for a team. He is a good playoff player. He will be fresh and well rested. His return will be stout and they can possibly resign him after the season. Same with Girardi. Honestly, I don't see them keeping either. I think this team moves in a different direction.

They need to acquire a crap load of picks and prospects and go in a different direction. They had a 5 year window with this team, got to the conference finals once. The window is closed. Time to try an open another one before Hank is ancient. They have an opportunity for a quick rebuild if Sather doesn't screw it up.
Here's a good one from December 2013...you know the year we made the SCF.

And I quote dump:

This year is over. I don't want to hear from the optimists in our fan base. The Rangers should be one of the most interesting sellers in recent memory at the deadline.

I won't get on you for this one dump, because up to 2013/2014 this team didn't really give us a lot of hope. Sather didn't really give us a lot of hope to believe. So the point of this thread is not to get on you, but simply to point out AGAIN we need to stop giving up in December...as you do every season...when there is a TON of hockey to play.

Have some belief in this team to get better as the season progresses...just like they have pretty much every season the past 4 seasons.

Please wake me when you are done with your child like stupidity of bringing up old threads and alert the board when the last time the Rangers won the cup was . I don't believe they have won the cup in over 20 years now. Yet, you continue to make it seem like they have accomplished something. Dumbass.

Wake me up when you are done giving up in December like you do every year. You don't learn...and that is scary.

Look...I don't want to get into nonsense with you. Truthfully you do what you need to do bro. But honestly look at your posts every December. They are literally the exact same threads in 13, 14, and 15...come on man...have some belief in this team and stop jumping ship in December.

That's why I bumped these, not to call you out or start a back and forth. I don't care about that. I know you love that stuff and love name calling, my point is believe in this team and learn from the past.
