Sometimes stability off the bench is just what the doctor ordered. Steve quietly had an impressive line: 5 points, 5 boards, 7 assists and a +16 for the game.

It's more fun watching our bench come in and contribute than try "hero ball"

I'm not gonna lie... I missed the whiteboy. He looks best in a Blazer uniform.

Here's to him knocking down some clutch threes!

Unlike some people, I was happy we brought him back. I always thought he would be a good backup. I was never thrilled with him as a starter but as a backup I'm very pleased.

Blake and Kaman are great additions. Second year in a row Olshey has upgraded the team with value acquisitions, and he's managing the contracts well for future flexibility. We should have an Olshey appreciation thread.

Exactly. They weren't flashy, but they're exactly the kind of solid moves that help get you to the next level.

Mods, please change thread title to "Wook was right all along."

Thanks.

I admit that after Blake's disappointing play in GS, I wasn't as enthused a I should have been by this signing. But, he's a much better fit here and looks like the old Steve Blake again. I knew he could still run an offense and set up his teammates, but was worried he'd lost his shot. Looks good so far! Welcome back Steve, we ALL missed you. Well, except RoyToy. Don't mind him. He rarely likes guys on our team anyway.

Blake didn't fit Golden State's offense. He isn't a guy who can create out of nothing which that offense needs nearly at all times.

Blake looked real good last night setting up his teammates, but he still has a problem getting panicked and turning the ball over when he gets double teamed. After all these years he still hasn't been able to see that coming and knowing when to get rid of the ball. That's a concern. Fortunately he wont be in there late in games. Perfect backup tho.

Yep, Golden State has been searching for a couple years to find a back up for Steph Curry. So, they went with the prototypical back up PG in Steve Blake and it was a horrible fit. I think they thought because Blake can hit threes, he'd be a good fit in their 3-point heavy offense. Problem is, Blake is a catch and shoot type who lacks Curry's quick release. For Blake to be an effective 3-point shooter, he needs someone like Curry (or Roy or Kobe) that can draw the double and kick out to the wide open Blake. With Curry off the floor, GSW doesn't have that. So, the only way for Blake to be successful in GSW would be to put him on the floor with the guy he's supposed to back up.

Exactly, they gave up pretty quickly and went to Jordan Crawford as their backup PG and gave Blake the defacto back up 2 spot which was a disaster defensively and made Curry/Klay play a lot of minutes.

Same answer I had on the Kaman thread, Olshey is a genius

I wasn't happy about signing Steve Blake, but I have since become a believer.

In before Roytoy comes in with his predictable diatribe!

I'm right there with you. I was pissed at Nate for not bringing him off the bench when we got Dré.

Meh, how often is he gonna get doubleteamed? Steve Blake does not warrant a double team. Any coach who does that should be fired on the spot. :dunno:

Let's settle down a bit, it has only been 3 preseason games. Glad he's back and all but I'm surprised how quickly some are to forgive, praise or condemn.

I'm all for building momentum going into the regular season! I've been calm all summer and after the game yesterday, I'm pumped up. The depth on the bench is paying off whether you praise, forgive or whatever. CJ proved me wrong. He's a better defender. Crabbe played good defense. Joel played solid defense. Kaman and Blake were game changers. How could you not feel great today?

Blanky is the backup PG to a guy who recently led the league in minutes. His job is to defend backup point guards, get our other backup players involved in the offense, and hit the occassional open shot. Perfect fit.

I've never seen such optimism for a team that's 1-2 in the PREseason, but I'll take it.

As for Steve Blake, let the lovefest commence, I like him! Buttttttttt, if he's our 2nd PG in the middle of 2015-16 these boards will turn on him hard. He's a temporary solution, unless CJ learns this year to give some backup PG minutes in addition to his regular backup SG minutes.

When we first signed Blake I was disappointed. The next day the idea started making sense to me. I think Blake will play another 4 years or so but I think he's got 2-3 years before he becomes Earl Watson. He's fit, his minutes will decrease year by year until he retires. I think he'll stick longer than Mo and might even retire here. Doubt he'll be the 2nd pt guard 3 years from now.

I just want to say fuck Steve Blake but I hope he does well since we are stuck with him.
