"The expectation is a robust market for Horford, who will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time this summer after nine seasons with the Hawks. Because of the anticipated demand, Horford is likely to receive offers up to the maximum amount, which would be $144.5 million over five years should he stay with the Hawks.

Under that kind of contract, Horford would turn 35 (and would earn $32.7 million) in the final year of the deal. Sources say that while ownership has pledged to both spend and to entrust the Hawks' basketball minds to make basketball decisions, that figure, along with the overall tab -- which would be one of the richest contracts in the NBA -- has the Hawks' brass a bit skittish."

I think I would be willing to deal Crabbe in a package for Horford if they included Korver. If you added those two players to our current roster (minus whatever else we send), I think we become a legit contender in the west.

I've mentioned this before but I'm bringing him up again because I'm wondering what it would take to get him; ben mclemore. Could we get him without giving up anything but picks? Similar to Trob. If so, do utt

Not sure i want a 35 year old wing and an undersized C who we will be paying 32 million when he turns 35.
Won't they start to break down?

It's pretty obvious to me that tanking is not in our future, and we already have a lot of young talent, so adding a few veteran guys might be enough to put us over the top. If we can do that without giving up CJ, all the better.

My question would be, what will our cap look like this summer if we were to trade for Horford and Korver?

Many of my opinions of why we shouldn't trade for Dwight Howard apply to Al Horford.

I do like Horford much more as a player, his attitude, and his ability to be effective as he ages over the next few years. Still just doesn't sit right giving up a young asset for him. But he's only 29, and skilled bigs age much better than other types of players so it would be something to consider. So I can see some reasons to do the trade and reasons not to do it.

Saying we need guarantees he resigns isn't possible; its an inescapable inherent risk. Of course you inquire if he leans towards resigning; but events on either side can change. The Lakers though they'd overcome that risk with Dwight Howard and we thought we avoided it with LaMarcus. The Clippers lucked out keeping CP3 and DeAndre. Thats just the way the league is nowdays there will be risk with upcoming free agents.

Korver doesn't make any sense. With Dame and CJ scoring and size, we need defense out of our wings. He's also much older.

Just seems like we should be looking at adding a future young piece and giving up a helpful veteran to a contender; not the other way around.

just last night you posted, we're pathetic, we're going to lose.....and you call homers blind? ok ..now you downplay Crabbes defensive talents...wow. If you think trading Crabbe brings in a star big man.....you need to get your eyes checked
I said missing 4 out of 5 free throws in the clutch was pathetic. And it looked like we were gonna lose. I don't know what your problem is with me lately but you've been putting words in my mouth. And I've seen articles and stats that show Crabbe isn't this great defender you guys think he is.

But Crabbe and Meyers are good enough to bring in a star big man on an expiring deal

Crabbe is nice dude, IDK what you want. But you draft a player, he turns out nice isnt that the point? Meyers on the other hand is trash

My memory sucks, but was the trade deadline always during all star week? Seems pretty convenient. I don't remember it ever being convenient lol.

Like I just said, I want Horford.

If we can get horford we can get Monroe. Give me Monroe instead.

Grizz primed for a breakup now with the Gasol news. Conley could be in play for NY/UTA etc

Horford is a better two way guy and more versatile offensively but Montoe is cheaper/younger and would take much to get probably.
Monroe wouldn't improve the team at all. Heres what we need in a big

Rim Protector: Al Yes / Monroe No
Floor Spacer: Al Yes / Monroe No
Good Passer: Al Yes / Monroe No
Veteran Leadership: Al Yes / Monroe No
Low Post Presence: Al Yes / Monroe Yes

Monroe is being payed $16M, Horford will get paid $20M. Horford is worth it, Monroe isn't.

So justa thought, but Zach is 34. He has one more year left after this one. He's making a little under 10 million this year.

I wonder if Memphis would do Zach for Leonard. If they do decide to blow it up, it doesn't make much sense to keep him. I'm sure some people wouldn't want to see him back in a Blazer uni, but he would be awesome as a third option.

Unless we trade for....

PUPPY MONKEY BABY!!!!

Monroe isn't a good passer? Do you watch basketball?

Ok so mark them both a "yes" for that one. Horford is still better all around. Monroe is really only better at manufacturing points 1 on 1 in the post.

I'd be curious to see what it would take to pry Horford away should they decide to shop him. I think he'd be a good fit in Stotts's offense. He can shoot, pass, move, and occasionally post up.

up

The main reason I prefer him to Horford. Well that and age. You'd be getting Monroe's prime years.

I also would love to have an offensive rebounder like Monroe.

Things could get a lot more interesting with Marc Gasol's broken foot - does Mem blow it up? and Jimmy Butler is out a month so do they trade guys like Pau and Taj? Pau or Taj would be "fun" to go after for a run THIS year if we could get one of them for Meyers and capspace

I hear you. I want a post scorer too. I'm just not convinced that Monroe would be a net positive for the team. He's not helping Milwaukee, although I think a big part of their problem is their coach. Good point on the age thing. I didn't realize Horford was 29. I thought he was 27 for some reason. Anyway, I still think he's got a few good years left and would make us a better team during Lillard's prime. He looks like the perfect big for our offense. Getting Monroe in his prime is nice, but what if his prime is spent not making our team any better?

Barf. $33M for a 35 year old? No thanks. He's not gonna be the guy that puts us in championship contention.

Al Horford will be 30 next summer...not sure where you get the 35 year old from. He's 29 right now

Read the post I quoted.

Also, is it just me or does it seem like Horford should be a lot older than he is? He's a good player, for sure. But at this point in our development I wouldn't trade anything of worth for him
