Yes and no. I think that Vonleh will turn into a player they regret getting rid of. But I think having MKG and Batum at the 2/3 will go a long way defensively in the east. They're going to give wing players some problems there.

For one season.

Yep, Alexander is raw, but T-Rob is STILL raw after 3 years at Kansas and 3 years in the NBA. Alexander just seems to get it. He knows what he needs to work on and seem more than willing to put in the work. I have no idea what T-Rob's problem is. Maybe getting drafted too high and then being passed around from team to team has messed him up. But, I think going undrafted will motivate Alexander the same way it motivated Wesley Matthews.

Trob was an absolute beast in college, just bigger and stronger than anyone else on the court. He got to the league and his length (lack of) and non existent basketball instincts hurt him.

If they were so high on him, why didn't he play at all last season?

Isn't he only 19? They had to make a decision between him and Zeller. Leave it to Cho to make the wrong decision. Vonleh is going to be a beast.

Does anyone else think it's hilarious that the official NBA abbreviation for this incarnation of the Charlotte Hornets is CHO. Talk about a GM leaving his mark on a team.

Not just a lack on instincts, in fact one some things he had great instincts (shot blocking, offensive rebounding), it is really a lack of skill (and poor decision making).

They actually tried to trade Zeller first. Reports were that they couldn't find any takers. They felt like they needed to move someone so they moved on to Vonleh. Short term thinking.

Actually, word on the street is that they tried to deal Zeller, but no joy, so they finally dealt Vonleh to clear up the rotation.

It's exactly (or close to) this kind of thinking that once netted us an all-star PF... He may have been a moody bitch, but he was as good as anyone in the league when he wanted to be.

I thought that he played few minutes as a freshman and sophomore. Then when it was obvious he'd declare after his junior year, Self relented and started him, to give him good stats. He was a dumb college player. And Self is a poor fundamentals teacher.

I think in the case of TRob when he first got here I remember a journalist asking him what he thought his role was with coach Stotts he answered, I just do what I do and bring energy, not I'll do whatever the coach wants me to do. Don't think he liked homework but he improved while he was here. What I like about the new guys is the coachability vibe..team first mentality.

I don't understand why everybody thinks Vonleh is such a guaranteed star or what have you. Last time a team traded a lottery pick in a year or less it was Trob. Believe it or not teams know what their doing when they cut bait that soon. Obviously they must know something nobody else does. Yea yea yea you can say "well CHA is just stupid.." But so is Sac front office and they knew exactly what their doing when everybody called them stupid for dumping Trob so soon

Seems like you have two choices:

Base your opinion on the assumed reasoning of another team's front office who was determined to get a scoring wing after botching bad by picking up Stephenson: OR

Base your reasoning by looking at a second year player's college career and his summer league performance.

Your facts are inaccurate, therefore your opinion is invalid.

It's not a matter of being stupid, directly. It's about being desperate.
1) They're trying to balance their roster.
2) Big Al ain't getting any younger.
3) They didn't want to trade Vonleh, they tried to another frontcourt player first.
4) So, they traded their previous lotto pick for a high character player who will fill up the boxcores for them immediately - he also play very good defense (of course they may not have players we are interested in).

The trade was logical for a desperate team. As a blazer fan, I am interested in making trades with Sacramento and Brooklyn - they are good candidates to be or become desperate.

Ok that makes a lot of sense compared to the other homer, defensive responses.. 'Ppreciate that

I was excited for a lot of reasons. I don't expect him to be a star, but him being a high-quality starting PF isn't out of the realm of his potential. I liked what I saw from him in college, he's a hard worker from all accounts, seems fairly well-spoken, he is ONLY 20 (just turned 20 a month ago). I like what I saw from him during summer league, which is dominated by guards - he had people talking there, and I read a few times from analysts/writers that Charlotte would regret moving him. Local media is talking about him and his solid performance in training camp.

Nothing about his career is assured, no doubt. But you have to be excited about the potential. I don't remember much love directed towards T-Rob regarding his play, outside of his energy and hustle. Not from the start of his Blazers career, not in the middle, not in the end.

I think Vonleh has a lot of potential but I don't expect him to be very good this year. I'd love to be wrong about that though.
