Honest question - why do people think Impeachment helps Trump? Because non-voters before (2016) are now pissed off he got impeached and want to vote for him? And there's enough people in that bucket to make this now a landslide win? I dont get it. I cant imagine someone not liking Trump, he gets impeached, now they want to vote for him because of that? I know some people who didnt vote before will vote next time around, and some will be Dem and some Rep. But who changes their vote - or votes now - because of impeachment?

It will fire up his base. The worse thing for a candidate is apathy and a lot of people may have been like

"Yeah, I voted for Trump to see what will happened. Whatevever now, too lazy to vote now".

Now the democrats are pushing this bullshit impeachment forward, and most of the supporters or those who were apathetic will see that as an afrontment to their vote. That is firing up his base.

As for the congressional districts, now opponents in swing locations will use this impeachment vote as an attack ad.

"This congressperson voted to impeach Trump with zero reason to do so. Vote them out, etc".

Maybe it will work, but maybe it won't, but like I said, the worst thing for Trump would have been Apathy. Now he can play the victim and say he's being screwed, the voters are being screwed and we need to vote the obstructionist democrats, who's sole focus was to "get" Trump while ignoring their real job, which is serving the voters, passing laws, etc.

Staying the course would have probably beat Trump. Now, who knows. Not saying its set in stone, but his chances are better now to win re-election because the Democrats think they can change the course of things by taking shortcuts.

You will hear the term "Obstructionist Democrats" a lot.

What other options are there?

More of a complete answer is IIRC Pelosi was very hesitant to go ahead with the Impeachment, to begin with, and we all know she had the House votes to impeach whenever she wanted to do it, the "hearings" and all that changed a total of 0 people's minds. See she probably saw it as a possibility that the "impeachment" would incite voters who quietly leaned right but didn't vote to go vote, or could make the Democrats and their candidates look bad and create division in the ranks of Democrats.

I think it's absolutely plausible there are people out there who believe that the impeachment helped Trump and some of them aren't gaslighting or wishfully hoping for it.

lol...you mean his base that is not as big as it used to be?

We'll see what happens. He has more mainstream republican support now. They unified behind him to thwart this impeachment by the Dems.

...uhhh, no he doesn't...in fact, not only is his "base" shrinking, but the number of them who support impeach are growing.

ok, you believe that then. I'm just giving my opinion on what is happening and I'm usually right.

Nah. They were unified behind him before impeachment came along. They unified behind him because they approve of him.

However, few of them voted for Hillary, so there isn't much to be gained from that.

All that was going to happen regardless of impeachment or not. Trump specializes in firing up his base, that's almost literally all he cares about.

And you are didn't mention that the opposition base is also fired up.

I think a lot of them took a knee rather than to vote for either, which I don't believe will happen in 2020.

The Dems were most fired up right after re-election with their rallies and what not. This impeachment thing is ho hum. I think they got discouraged when they took heavy losses on Kavanaugh and the Mueller investigation.

Likewise the opposition.

Sure, more democrats will come out because they lost in 2016 and they don't want that feeling again.

However, I think this impeachment thing has only energized the right.

"The dems are trying to fuck you over. Vote Trump 2020".

that's basically the rally cry.

That and the Democrats don't have jack shit to be excited about.

Wow, this is hilarious...you're just like Trump...you believe that reality is whatever you think it is and what you say it is.

You don't know any Democrats, do you.

The ONLY thing Trump is good at is firing up his base with crazy statements, lies and conspiracies. Impeachment is just another drop in the bucket. I don’t think he will gain any more voters because of this. I just don’t see the logic. Who the fuck has been sitting watching this for three years and now is like “ok, now I’m fired up and going to vote for Trump, he’s got my vote now this changes everything”? The voter who sat and watched and listened to: the Wall, the terrible mexicans, the shit hole countries, the Mueller report, the Russian shit, the Paris accord, the cages, the pussy grabbing, the Clinton stuff, the Biden/Pelosi bashing...NOW is going to vote? No way.

You gonna run Biden? You do know how little the average American earns a year don't you?

Trump is a rich guy clearly but all he has to say to the poor unwashed masses in flyover country is look at Hunter making all of that money cuz of daddy. And look at all the illegals still taking your jobs.

None of Trumps shady business deals are going to change how that message plays.

Just because you cant fathom their existence doesnt mean they dont exist. I have a hard time fathoming that people voted for him in the first place, but here we are...

@ABM--you probably ought to read this. This particular paragraph almost seems as though it was written to you.

Mark Galli said:
To the many evangelicals who continue to support Mr. Trump in spite of his blackened moral record, we might say this: Remember who you are and whom you serve. Consider how your justification of Mr. Trump influences your witness to your Lord and Savior. Consider what an unbelieving world will say if you continue to brush off Mr. Trump’s immoral words and behavior in the cause of political expediency. If we don’t reverse course now, will anyone take anything we say about justice and righteousness with any seriousness for decades to come? Can we say with a straight face that abortion is a great evil that cannot be tolerated and, with the same straight face, say that the bent and broken character of our nation’s leader doesn’t really matter in the end?

He did it too isn't the defense.

Let's say for 50 years Trump did just as bad or even worse in the private sector.

So what?

Even if Trump spent every moment of his Presidency trying to be as corrupt as possible it would take him 3000 years to catch up to the people trying to take him out. (10000 if he still tweets and plays golf)
He did it too is one of the defenses that I've seen Republicans use. Not the only defense but one of many. It seemed to me that they were throwing a bunch of unconnected thoughts out there as if to see what would stick.
