This is wrong. It would be 2. Rockets, 3. Clippers 5. Grizzlies, 6. Spurs
Division winners it the first tiebreaker. So if the Rockets win the division, they have the tiebreaker over the Clippers.

So 7 scenarios can play out with a Griz win, and 5 of the 7 pit us against the Rockets or Griz in the first round. I like it!

Spurs: 1 possible scenario, and a very unlikely one (all lose except Griz)
Clips: 1 possible scenario
Rockets: 3 possible scenarios (includes the everyone wins or everyone loses scenarios)
Griz: 2 possible scenarios (two scenarios require the Spurs to lose)

Will Pop play to win the 2 seed? He has to, right? Seems like everyone should be playing to win that last game, but Griz have a tough matchup with the Pacers fighting for their chance to sneak into the playoffs.

If the Griz do lose, there are 8 possible scenarios that can play out (I think I figured this out correctly):

Spurs: 2 possible scenarios
Clips: 1 possible scenario
Rockets: 5 possible scenarios
Griz: 0 chance

So in summary, most scenarios have us rematched against the Rockets (8). Then Spurs (3) and then Griz and Clips tied (2).

Seems like everyone should be playing to win that last game
Great post but this is why if we were going to go the route of resting people we should have gone all out and done it the right way. If we had conceded the chance of HCA then our one remaining advantage was that we could have really really rested our guys with any impact to our seeding and also thereby minimizing risk of injury. So they way the Blazer chose to do this made no sense and has now burned us. I would love to hear the theory behind why we did things the way we did. Because with the info we have it really made no sense. But I guess thats in the past.

As far as our opponent it sure does seem to scream rematch with the Rockets doesnt it? And if there wasnt a rivalry before there sure as hell will be one now huh? And even if we lose it will make the rivalry that much better and serve as motivation for next year. I hope the one lesson this team takes from this year is buckling down a little better against the lesser teams. Just 2 more wins this year against some of the crappy teams that we lost to would have drastically changed our seeding.

fuck we are losing in first round with all our injuries and i dont want shitty r*ckettes to have that satisfaction of beating us. let us lose to the spurs or grizz so i can root for them through the playoffs. hate life fuck injuries

IDK if the Spurs really want the Mavs in the first round again.
Remember the Mavs all but knocked the Spurs out of the playoffs last year.
Records/Champs don't matter in that matchup... They're such rivals that it just doesn't matter.

If I'm the Spurs the only team I'd like to avoid if possible is the Mavs. Spurs aren't scared of them but... The rivalry...

I'm rooting for us to get the Rockets. Thanks for this thread.

I was going to say Frazier, Crabbe, Gee, Meyers and Freeland.

I guess I misunderstood the OP.

We're probably playing the San Memphis RockPers. However, if somehow we don't, I'm sure we'll be able to beat the Los Houston GrizSpurs.

Almost guaranteed to be Rockets or Grizzlies. Toss up at this point. I think HOU is easier but MEM has a lot of injury troubles right now. Not sure if those will linger but if they did then they wouldn't be as formidable as normal. Still would pick HOU to play I believe.

I'd rather lose to a team I respect, than one I loathe. Hoping for Spurs or Grizzlies.
I agree. It would SUCK to lose to the Clippers or Rockets regardless of the circumstances.

Looks like a Clipper win is inevitable which means we will not be facing them.

So if Rockets win (likely) and Grizzlies lose (likely), we're playing the Rockets, right?

Do we literally have to play the fucking Rockets again? Ugh. I hate that fucking drama team.

I would rather face the Rockets just because we have confidence we can beat them in a playoff series. Second choice is Memphis, but I'm not too sure that would be a good first round opponent.

You think MEM will likely lose at home to Indiana? Pacers are coming off a hard-fought double OT victory against the Wiz last night-- that too a TNT game that ended after 11PM with all their guys playing extended minutes.

Grizzlies are holding some important guys out (last I looked).

So I assume whoever we play the team is not traveling back to Portland first? That makes it a 10 day trip. Not sure how that effects them, maybe not at all, but it would have been better if they played at home the last two games and then opened up at home as well.

Makes no sense for them to do so. The difference between a win and loss tonight could be starting the playoffs at home vs POR, instead of on the road @ LAC.

After last night Clipper win, we have a little more info for our first round playoff opponent:

Clippers-Blazers: No chance
Spurs-Blazers: 1 scenario (Griz lose, Spurs lose, Rockets win)
Griz-Blazers: 3 scenarios (most likely if Griz win)
Rockets-Blazers: 4 scenarios (most likely if Griz lose)

Conley and Gasol have legit injuries. Getting them healthy for the playoffs is more important than winning tonight.

Although we only have one shot at playing the Spurs, it's still worrisome...The Spurs and Grizzlies both play teams that HAVE to win tonight to make the playoffs (Pacers to hold their spot, Pelicans to hold their spot, esp since OKC plays the Wolves and will certainly win). And the Rockets winning is pretty likely to make that full scenario play out.

I could definitely see Pop tanking tonight's game to get the Blazers in the first round.

Well if guys are hurt and can't play then they can't play.
