Official: you be the GM (what would you do)

Welcome to our community

Speaking of ariza, could you imagine our wing rotations with him? Good lord. Length and d everywhere. Having batumand ariza in at the same time could give teams fits

Ariza is a starting SF on a good and underrated team. Quit dreaming.

We’ve got a solid core, so I don’t think we need to swing for the fences or take big risks this offseason.

Keep the starting 5 intact. Extend Aldridge.

All of the bench is expendable.
My keepers: Robinson, Freeland, Barton, and McCollum.
First option as trade/filler: Wright, Leonard, Claver, Crabbe
Gone: Williams, Watson

Assets:
Approx. 5 mil MLE
Approx. 2.5 mini-MLE

First priority is to pick up a backup point guard.
Top targets: Farmar & Brooks (both good a/t ratios and shot 38%+ from 3 last year)

Next priority is to pick up a backup big.
Top targets: Jordan Hill and Jeff Adrien (both young with solid rebounding numbers)

I would use Wright, Leonard, Claver and/or Crabbe as assets to acquire a late 1st (unlikely) or 2nd round pick.
Top targets:
- Jordan Adams, SG, UCLA (projected late 1st round. Probably out of our range)
- Jarnell Stokes, PF, Tennessee (projected mid 2nd round). Solid rebounder.
- DeAndre Kane, SG, Iowa St. (projected late 2nd round). Well balanced pts/ast/reb.

Nothing flashy, but then last summer wasn’t flashy and look where it got us.

To create cap room you have to renounce exceptions and mles. We won't have cap room, just a mle and a lle. But we can trade first rounders after July 1

The cap is projected to be $63.2 million. Without Mo on the cap, I've got our number at $58 million. That leaves us about $5 million to work with, plus the mini-MLE.

We have a bunch of young talent that could be used as filler in a trade.

Obviously we need to upgrade our bench. That goes without saying. I think we need one consistent scorer off the bench. One guy who is going to get you that 12-15 points a night off the bench. Mo could do it maybe one in four games. That's simply not good enough. We need an actual backup point guard to play with Dame. We need a backup center.

PG - I would throw our mini-MLE at a point guard. Possibly Mario Chalmers or Shaun Livingston. I think Livingston is intriguing because he's so tall, he could easily play with Dame.

Wing - Paul Pierce would be an amazing get. I'm not sure what he would want, but I would give him the $5 million. He was huge for Brooklyn this year.

Center - I would swing for the fences. I would go after Roy Hibbert. I think he could be a productive center again in the right situation. Indy is a fucking mess and I don't think it's all on Hibbert. I think Indy will be swept by Miami and then they will want to dump his big contract. I would trade Wes, Dorell, and Freeland for Hibbert.

PG - Dame/Livingston
SG - Barton/CJ/Crabbe
SF - Nic/Pierce
PF - LA/TRob/Claver
C - Hibbert/Rolo/Leonard

That would be my big summer. We solidify our center position, we get a solid bench player in Pierce, and a backup point guard who can play with Dame in Shaun Livingston.

We lose Wes, Dorell, Mo, and Freeland.

Pierce would not accept $5 mil. I just don't see it.

If Olshey could pull that off, he better get GM of the year next season.

I do think that he would do a sign and trade with us. I just don't see anyone on our team they would really want unless it is one of our starters. I'm not down with that! Hahaha

I did my math wrong, so it's not actually $5 million :sigh:

But I think he would accept that. I think the best he's going to get is MLE money. He's not a star anymore. He wants to play for a contender and I don't think he's staying in Brooklyn.

Then we better get Garnett too... Those 2 have some sort of bromance and won't go unless the other goes with them.

Wrong! I'm calling KG right now to tell him to clean out his shit. He's done!

Hahahaha! See this is why I think the "Pierce thing" cannot happen. I think Garnett still has a year left (12 mil bro!). And if Pierce pulls a KG, then you need both to have one.

Well, it doesn't have to be Pierce, but I would like to get someone like Pierce. Ariza would be money, but I don't think he would come off the bench.

Do all roads lead us back to Marvin Williams? Can't believe that guy is still only 27

What makes McCollum a keeper?

Aaron Afflalo's name keeps popping into my head. Way out of our league given our tradeable assets, but that's the prototype I'm thinking of as a guy to pair with Damian.

The same thing that made EWill a keeper?

LOL you're comparing a rookie who only played half the season to a guy that we dumped after he barely played in three years with us?

Okay, let me think....

1. CJ is a rookie, EWill was going into his 4th season.

2. CJ was a lottery pick, EWill was taken 22nd.

3. CJ had a broken foot, EWill blew out his knee multiple times.

4. EWill had a game predicated on athleticism, CJ does not, so his injuries were much more impactful.

CJ definitely deserves more time. Missing all of training camp and then coming in late without a defined role is pretty tough on a rookie.

I really like Affalo. Great guy.

Yeah, Lance is too much like Batum anyway. We need a pure scorer next to Dame and LA.

Like Dion Waiters, perhaps (8th in the NBA in p/48 among SG's)?

One of my crazy trade scenarios in the "trade Wes" thread was to send Wes and CJ to Cleveland for Waiters and Varejao. This would be based on the presumption that Waiters and Irving don't "click" together, and that they'd want a more steady, veteran presence in that spot. We could easily include Leonard in that deal if both sides were interested.

I agree with the pure scorer next to Dame and LA theory. Funny when you look at the Shooting Guard FA list, there are not many good scorers.

But when you go to the Point Guard list, there are a bunch of pure scorers. Shows you how the league is evolving.

5 years ago it was all about who would fit best with BRoy. (Lillard would have been a good option) Now it really comes down to who fits in best with Damian.
From the list I have seen I would go with Stuckey.
Isaiah Thomas would be a gamble because of his size..... but damn tempting.

Anyways I would go scoring guard with the MLE and veteran center with the 2.5.

Stuckey is kind of intriguing. Probably a better swing guard then Mo.

Agreed, but the two exceptions still come to about $7 mil to spend on FAs. It will be interesting to see if Olshey can talk Mo into signing a new contract at 120% of last year's salary so he doesn't have to use the exception money to find a replacement PG. The $7 mil should be enough to get a couple of solid vets for the bench, but anything splashier than that would seem only to be possible via a trade. Should be an interesting summer.

I think they have to renounce the 120% rights to get near $5M in cap space.

I also think that only 1st and 2nd years are guaranteed on rookie scale deals. They could refuse to exercise Leonard's option.

The best pure scorer on the market is Carmelo Anthony. Would you trade Nic and Wes to get him?
