Well now Brooks is against Dubois. He thinks Chytil is the second coming of Bergeron. :blahblah:

while I disagree with his assessment of Chytil, I think he is right to point out Miller and Lafreniere coming up for renewal after the season and the challenges we’ll have with fitting everyone under the cap.

if NJ gave Hughes $8M/yr then you know Lafreniere is going to be expensive, even if he’s not as further along offensively.

I agree with you about Fox Grevv. I would trade Fox and his large contract for another #1C. There is no doubt about his offensive ability but he lacks the size and strength to be effective against aggressive forechecking. He will get stronger as he gets older but he isn't going to get bigger. The window of opportunity has finally reopened for the Rangers, now is the time to make moves to address weaknesses and get that Cup.

Thats a tough call. He certainly has high value and rightly so. But with how worn down he looked at times it is really concerning. Makes me think he has 2 to 4 years before he is spent.

Fox and Makar are the same size. Fox has almost just as many points per game too. He had 63 assists last year. Unless they are trading Austin Matthews he will be a Ranger for a long time. Congrats to Jack Johnson. He was banished here but good enough to play the whole season and playoffs with Avs and win a cup

Points are good but you had to have seen the noticeable difference in how Fox looked compared to Makar in the playoffs. Fox looked tired, slow, worn out and tentative. Thats why I was convinced he was playing hurt. If there was no injury that's a pretty big red flag for me.
Makar was a beast in every round if not every game.

Fox may need to work more on his skating and overall conditioning.

Im not advocating for the Rangers to trade Fox just yet but I think it's pretty clear they have to get deeper on D so they don't lean on him, Lindgren and Miller so much. Those guys will still likely be playing 22-24 minutes a game but if they can add or develop another young d-man to play with Schneider they can mitigate the wear and tear on Fox and Lindgren during the season.
Getting a 2C still the priority though.

Gauthier 1y re-sign and Kakko bridge deal close. I'd be surprised if it's less than 3m but maybe just based on his stats. Strome and Copp are going to test FA.

If Gauthier could only finish and hit consistently he’d be a $7 million player a year

Sounds like Scheifele is a target also, which I like. If we end up with Strome back as the # 2 C I will be very upset. That is not good enough. He adds very little outside of scoring some points, and in theory having a connection with Panarin. It is time to move on from Strome.

Also seems like our RW's will be Kakko, Lafreniere, and Kravtsov. Good young trio. Z and Chytil at C, need the # 2. Kreider, Panarin as the top 2 LW's. Motte and Goodrow added into the bottom 6. That is a nice start that would be capped off very well with a good # 2 C add.

The D is set outside of a LD to pair with Schneider. Lundkvist could be the guy to go as part of a package for a # 2 C.

If they land PLD or Schiefele and Chytil is in the deal, Goodrow is good enough to handle the 3C, or they could sign a cheap guy like Stastny for a year and Goodrow could move to the 4C which would be better with Blais/Reaves on that line.

If they fuck with Lafreniere next year again and make him go to RW it will be incredibly frustrating to see.

Doesn't seem like they are going to get Copp or Strome. Which means they have to trade for somebody.

I think letting Copp go is a mistake. Even though he kinda disappeared towards the end of the playoff run I still think he is a good fit with this team.

I would agree, but if he wants $6M (or close to it) per for 5 or 6 years, I am not sure I would do that for Copp.

I would have wanted Copp back more if he didn't disappear in the playoffs but he's going to get more than the Rangers can afford.

That is going to hurt Tampa a lot. He was still one of their key pieces. They want to go with Cernak and Foote on the right side. Good luck. Not so easy when you have to face other teams top lines in close games.

I agree losing McDonough will hurt the Bolts defensively but he's 33, using the money to resign Paul was a no brainer.

Paul got 7 years...seemed like a long contract to me for a bottom 6 guy but for $22m it was a steal.

I have a feeling it's going to be one of the Winnipeg guys for both Chytil and Kakko, with the Rangers getting back a 2nd rounder also. That's the only way they can fit a $6.5m salary in. Maybe they can hang onto Lundkvist and use him then for a younger 3C. If Edmonton has someone maybe Georgiev can go in a package.

Scheifele is not worth Kakko and Chytil. He's 29. Chytil and Kakko won't make a lot of money for a while so that makes no sense anyway.

No way they deal both Chytil and Kakko for Scheifele. I can see one, but no shot it will be both - that would be a dumb deal.

They can fit him in at $6.125M the next two seasons, they'll just need to move out someone in two years when Scheifele becomes a UFA - by then it could be Kreider or Trouba.
