Agreed. However, IMHO the potential cost of waiting to determine a definitive answer before acting is too great.

It's much more than just temperature, its the overall degradation of our natural world and the destruction of CO2 abosorbing mechanisms. Although, my answer to your question would be Pre-Industrial revolution levels.

And how do you know that's the correct temperature / CO2 level state?

the main concern imo is depleted oxygen levels

Two questions: First, how much are you willing to pay to not contribute to warming?

Second, how do you get other countries to go along? It doesn't help to shut down our electrical grid if China doesn't go along.

Any problems man has contributed to Global Warming are due to over-population. This can be easily solved by Global Nuclear War.

The temperature needs to always be what it was 30 years ago. That is a scientific fact!!! :MARIS61:

the history of earth only goes back 200 years.

In the 1980s, he said, summer sea ice would cover an area a bit smaller than the Lower 48 states. Now it is about half that. A report from the National Snow and Ice Data Center shows the Arctic's melting ice is resulting in the lowest sea ice levels since satellites started tracking the measurements in 1979. The difference between this year's low and that of 2007 is 293,000 square miles, about the size of Texas.

Here's a picture. The outer line is what it used to be.
