Olshey after Whiteside?

If we got a good C who could contribute on both ends of the floor I think Plumlee could be good at PF. That's the thing with all of our bigs - none of them are good enough to play alongside each other, but all/most could be fine next to a good, two-way player.
And I'm sure the Heat wouldn't want a center in return.

You would have to include those last two. My list removes them and adds Hedo. I prefer to think that anyone who turns us down is cursed and doomed to fail.

In past years, the guys we landed played well and earned their money (Brian Grant, Andre Miller and even Aminu and Davis last year), but now the curse seems to be spreading to guys who actually choose us.

I think somebody needs to sacrifice a chicken, or something.

I think TBPup was just going after Neil's signings/targets. To which I'd add Dorrel Wright (I think Neil signed him?), Aminu, and Davis. I'm thankful that Aminu/Davis are on bargain contracts, but as actual players they aren't making a very strong case for Neil.

Wait, what? You don't think Allen Crabbe would be an upgrade over Dion Waiters?

Oh wait, never mind. Waiters sucks, but he's having a better season than Crabbe at less than 1/6th the cost.

Josh Richardson is their project guy at shooting guard. I think he can become very good.

CJ + non-Harkless dudes for Whiteside + Dragic would be a tremendously good deal for us.

I disagree

I'm only trading CJ for Cousins.

Dealing CJ for Whiteside leaves us with one consistent scorer. One. That would be a disaster, no matter how good Whiteside is defensively. Teams could double, maybe even triple Lillard without fear of anybody else making them pay for it.

Don't need Dragic. CJ is a great talent, if you are trading him go for a top tier player, not Whiteside.

Whiteside averages 17ppg. That's not really bad for a secondary scorer. I think between him and more touches for Mo and Crabbe, we'd be fine in the scoring department. Especially with our offensive system.

He's not my ideal target, but he'd be a significant upgrade if we swapped him for CJ.

Neither of those guys can create their own shot. Y'all trippin'..

Why would they trade Whiteside? Centers like him are very rare. I don't think they'd even give him to us for CJ and multiple picks.
not surprising most of the hypotheticals here pretty lopsided in Portland's favor...it's tradition! It would probably take CJ + Mason to balance things out talent wise from their prospective, but then the dollars aren't right... maybe PDX would have to throw in someone else with a huge contract. Regardless, it seems very unlikely they're looking to move Hasaan right after resigning him and him producing quite well this season.

To be fair, the basis for this thread was a post from a Heat blogger suggesting Meyers/Mason/Harkless plus picks would be a good haul for Whiteside from Miami's perspective. Personally I think that would be silly for them, but the idea's not just a Blazer fan creation.

Figured it wasn't really worth starting a new thread about but my source that has connections to another front office in the NBA told me yesterday that there have been whispers out there of PDX exploring a deal centered around Boogie for CJ/Meyers/2nd Rounder.

I love CJ to death and find watching him and Dame play together is awesome. But thinking about it, if you have the chance to combine Boogie with Dame...that is a SOLID foundation for a contending team and I would have to seriously consider it as a Blazer.

Boogie for CJ/Meyers/2nd Rounder
That sounds almost reasonable. Personally, I think CJ and DMC are of equal value (with an argument for CJ being of higher value). CJ would, undoubtedly, be able to lead the Kings to at least the same "heights" that DMC has taken them. And could very easily take them much further. For that reason I don't think we should be the team that adds "sweeteners" to the deal. I'm fine adding a 2nd rounder. But despite being off the Meyers wagon, I don't think we should need to include him in the deal (and I still think he could be the perfect complement alongside DMC). I know some of you will say dumping his contract is more than enough reason to include him, but at $10M I think that's a pretty easy contract to deal with in this new age - the only bad contracts we have are Crabbe/Turner. If we have to include another player I'd rather move Davis (who, yes, has an even more friendly contract) because he just doesn't possess any real skill aside from occasional good defense.

I have a couple people I trust that have given me information that's proved to be accurate over time. When I can, I try to share it here with people. Obviously I'm just a guy on the internet so you can take it with a grain of salt lol but the last thing he shared with me was the 4/40 Meyers contract and that was a full week or so before it was announced.

Interesting, I would have thought the Blazers would have had to take Gay back as well. I hope it happens though.

That may not be all of the trade, simply based around those players and other smaller pieces to make it work.

Gay is not a liability to them. He is having a great year and does not have a lengthy or expensive contract.

Yeah but they're gonna wanna shed that contract if they're truly gonna blow it up. They need:

  1. Young players on longer deals.
  2. High draft picks.
  3. Money.

Sounds good but I don't see how it's possible this year with CJs contract and all.

Cousins upgrades our defense both on the interior and on the perimeter (since I'm assuming Crabbe would start.)

Offensively it's a wash. Both CJ and Cousins can score at will.

If Cousins wants to be in Portland, I like Cousins a lot more than Whiteside (though I like Whiteside too). Cousins is a better two-way player--he's not the defensive wrecking crew that Whiteside is but, in the periods where he's put in effort, he's been a good defensive player and the Kings have been significantly better defensively with him on the court than with him off.

Of course, if Cousins doesn't have any interest in being a Trail Blazer, I wouldn't be interested. An engaged Cousins can compete with players like Davis and KAT for best big man in the league. A petulant, checked-out Cousins is just importing the Kings' biggest problem. So, the Blazers would need to get permission to talk to Cousins before any deal, to gauge his interest, in my opinion.

An enthusiastic Cousins is, to me, worth a lot more than McCollum. He impacts the game more ways and can actually be a building block to a much better defense.

Why would u trade a star in Cj whose locked up for the next 5 years for a star that's most likely going to bail after his contract ends next year?

Now do I think the trade is fair? Absolutely. Kings would be happy to have a star return to them whose locked up for the foreseeable future. But blazers would be dumb to do that trade since Cousins will be unrestricted soon..

Another thing with cousins is his contract. No way would I give up CJ for him without an extension.
