Hassan Whiteside signed a four-year maximum contract with the Miami Heat worth approximately $98 million.

Whiteside first met with the Miami Heat and then the Dallas Mavericks before making his decision.
Whiteside revealed he also liked the Portland Trail Blazers.
“Portland was my second option,” Whiteside said at the team’s Saturday shootaround in Portland. “I would have came here.”

ESPN reported last week that Portland “chased” Whiteside in free agency, but nothing was said of Whiteside’s interest.

The possibilities he passed up.......

I doubt there is a chance in hell for us to get Whiteside with those players mentioned in the article

A trio of Whiteside, CJ and Dame would be deadly. I wished we got him this summer. I just don't think we have the pieces necessary to get him. Then again, Miami is rebuilding so good young cheap players maybe a good thing.

Well that's just a kick in the pants. What's the point of this lip service? He didn't come here, so why say "I would have..."

For everything outside of bball, I too would have picked MIA over PDX. No tax, South Beach, sun, diversity, women.

Ugh.

It just sucks. These are supposed to be the best, most competitive athletes in the world. Winning should take precedence over comfort and lifestyle...
I get it. Doesn't mean I have to like it.
I'm with you....

UGH!!!!

Well, DWade was still in the picture when Whiteside re-signed in MIA. He didn't necessarily know that they were going in the tank (although the writing was on the wall).

Actually, now that I think about it, if Olshey had managed to sign Whiteside, in addition to not having the money to sign Turner, he most likely would have let Leonard go too.

I think most people around here would be okay with that exchange.

How about:

MIA gets:
Plumlee
Terrence Ross
Pick\Crabbe

TOR gets:
Leonard
Aminu

POR gets:
Whiteside

The same can work if you replace MIA with SAC\cousins :smiley-squint:

So Davis and Whiteside would be our only big men?

Well, we'd also have Layman. And apparently 3 open roster spots. And the salaries don't balance (Toronto's getting $16M+ back in exchange for 1o), so they'd have to add someone else to the deal to even make it work. Sullinger, maybe?

Still, why would Toronto give up Ross (+ more) for those two? Doesn't really make sense from their end.

I think they'd love to have Aminu as their starting 4. Leonard makes no sense for them though. Plumlee and Aminu to Toronto would easily get them to trade Ross or Powell and a 1st.

Problem is: i don't think Riley wants Leonard, they need to feel like they are getting enough starters.

Reasons i sent Meyers and Aminu to Toronto:
-They courted Leonard during the summer, they obviously think he can fit their system and the modern NBA.
-Aminu solves their problem at the 4, it is known around the league they are willing to send Ross for a big man.

Wish we still had Batum for this trade, Masai always loved him.

I wonder if Neil over-paid Turner and Crabbe because he plans to trade CJ to balance out the roster. If you think about it, without CJ, we'd have no one close to competent to start next to Dame aside from Crabbe, and Crabbe isn't much of a ball handler so they went after Turner.

I think Whiteside makes more sense for Portland than Cousins. He's locked up while cousins is not.

My phone just got spammed hard when I clicked on that link

Can a Samsung Galaxy get a virus?

I'm not going there again

Can you post a summary?

Basically said the Blazers were rumored to have offered Plums, Leonard and Harkless for Whiteside...also claimed we made contact about Vucevic from Orlando and Lopez from the Nets....they claim the Blazers may make a move long before the deadline

I didn't have a problem with the link but it does stream ad videos while you read the article on my desktop....didn't infect my system...just checked it.

That's a good point.
With Cousins you can count on thug loyalty though.

I also believe Paul Allen will nuke any Cousins trade being offered to him.

Where's it say he made contact? From HNGN:

According to Amico Hoops, if the trade deal with the Heat doesn't work, the Trail Blazers is also looking to Nets' Brook Lopez, Bucks' Greg Monroe and Magic's Nikola Vucevic as other possible players for acquisition.

The leak is probably from Miami, not us. I think that Olshey told Miami that he has options, to motivate them to keep their demands down. He may or may not actually be interested in the other 3 players.
