Olshey after Whiteside?

just need to keep hark outta that trade and I am real good with it
Agreed. Trading our only good SF - at a time when there are very few good wings in the league - for another big is, at best, a lateral move. I can't think of any reasonable scenario where I'd trade Harkless.

We have guys who can step up at SF. Aminu (if we start, say, Davis). ET. Even Crabbe.

No thanks. Starting Turner goes against the reason we got him (to spell Dame/CJ), and creates spacing issues. Crabbe is not a SF, or a starter on a good team. Aminu is okay as a PF but sucks as a SF, and ideally would be a bench player.

Any two of Dame, CJ, or Turner can be on the court at all times.

If Portland could do that without giving up CJ, I think you have to seriously consider it. Plums will likely be gone next year anyhow unless there is some type of trade because the Blazers simply don't have the Cap/Lux room to pay him even though it goes up a bit this next summer.

Wings are a dime-a-dozen compared to legit, dominant big men. If it were something like Plums, Crabbe, Aminu, 1st round pick, even though that is 2 starters and your 6th man, that is still something you can build around with Dame/CJ/Hassan.

Agreed - but you suggested Turner (among others) could start in place of Harkless, which would have him on the court with both Dame/CJ.

There's enough minutes for them to all be on the court for 24 of the 48 minutes, if they all played 36. All of Q1 and Q4, for example. Though it's more typical that guys don't play the full 12 minutes.

FWIW,

Riley loves his centers. I don't see him giving up Whiteside unless there's another high quality one in return, or unless he has one already on the roster.

Perhaps not. If we had signed him, we wouldn't have signed Turner and likely wouldn't have offered on some or all of Harkless, Leonard and Crabbe.

It's an interesting question as to which of those guys would have been let go last summer if the Blazers had managed to land Whiteside. Leonard's a certainty, but choosing between Crabbe and Harkless would be closer. Tempting just to say that you'd go with Mo because his contract is more affordable, but if there had been more money on the table because Crabbe hadn't yet been signed, you can bet that Mo's agent would have upped his asking price. Still, I'd say that Harkless would get the nod and that Crabbe would be starting for the Nets.

Yeah...if we would have signed Whiteside, retained Harkless and Crabbe, and not signed Turner or Leonard...I'm not really seeing the downside.

I think the Blazers could have re-signed everyone and also Whiteside. ET would not have been signed, though.

It's a made up rumor, so why even talk about it? It's way too specific to be true. No way is Olshey having in depth convos like that right now, and if he is, it wouldn't leak.

so why even talk about it
It's prefaced as coming from a rumor mill....given the board topics why not speculate? I understand folks not interested in the rumor mill feeds but at this point, I'm interested in possibilities and Neil has been super quiet...he doesn't feed rumors but when they include several other teams...quite often someone in their organization does feed rumors...to me...more interesting conversation than Fantasy Football or College Football threads around here
