In the past he has been active right at midnight addressing his priority #1 - think Hibbert - and this year we've got plenty of money to spend. Who do you think he'll be going after at midnight? Or do we sit back and wait on LA? I wouldn't put it past him to try and sign someone during LA's free agent tour to convince him to stay.

If he waits until midnight, he'll be 3 hours behind.

Oh he's definitely going after someone tonight. My guess is still Monroe. I don't doubt the aminu interest but he's not someone you make priority #1 when you have $40 mil in cap space.

I read somewhere that the meeting with Monroe will be on the first day of free agency. Not sure if that means tonight or tomorrow. I'm going to try and find the link.

Free agent forward-center Greg Monroe plans to meet with four teams in the first 24 hours of a free agency.

The Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Portland Trail Blazers are on Monroe's list on day one of free agency, and there is a possibility he meets with other teams, a person familiar with the situation told USA TODAY Sports.

If it's true that Aldridge doesn't feel like the team gives him enough love, Olshey better talk with LMA first.

I don't get it.

barfo

It's from the movie Say Anything, where John Cusak's character is trying to win back Ione Skye's character by standing in her driveway with a boombox playing a heartfelt song. Imagine he's in front of LA's house.

From the movie, "Say Anything", which somehow seems especially apropos. Work your magic, Neil.

LMA first (though its in essence already done)
D Jordan second (gotta ask)(Olshey connection as a substitute father figure)
Monroe third (best chance to actually sign here and play next to LMA)
Aminu fourth (someone has to start at SF)

1. LaMarcus Aldridge
2. Kevin Love
3. DeAndre Jordan
4. Paul Millsap
5. Greg Monroe
6. Tyson Chandler
7. DeMarre Carroll
8. Al-Faruq Aminu
9. Tobias Harris
10. Danny Green

it's really only for guys who are getting multiple max offers... If you're giving deMarre Carroll 15M/yr (or Aminu 8M), you could have the contract offer delivered by Wookee dressed in a Mankini on Friday at 5:15 and he'd take it.

Where in the world is Neil?

Man.... it's too quiet. Does anyone even want a meeting with him?

I expect Monroe to be our #1 target; regardless of LMA's decision. There is no point in talking to LMA; we've already been talking with him for 9 years so he knows everything about our situation. I think we have a real good shot at Monroe though. He has mentioned being on a winning team is important so that gives us a big edge over New York and Los Angeles. I expect it comes down to us or Milwaukee.

DeMarre Carroll and Al-Farouq Aminu are my guess for #2 and #3. Defensive wings are so critical in today's game. Atlanta will likely have to pay Millsap the max and even after cutting and renouncing all their other players that only gives them $7 million to offer Carroll.

Aminu can play small ball PF and again is a great defensive option at SF.

I think we have already told Wes we will give him a good offer but not $15 million so go out and shop yourself first. When other teams have cold feet he eventually returns here for $9 million; either on a long term deal nobody else will give him or a short deal where he has bird rights and can get a huge raise next summer.

The one big positive of Aldridge potentially leaving is that it gives us $20.1 million extra to spend on free agents. Compare that to a team already over the cap like the Clippers with DeAndre or the Nets with Brook. We could afford Monroe on the max, Carroll at $10 million, Wes at $9 million, Aminu at $6 million and still have the room exception for Freeland. Thats a much deeper team than anything we can put together with Aldridge.

Monroe/ Kaman / Freeland
Leonard/ Plumlee/ Vonleh
Carroll/ Aminu/ Crabbe
Wes/ Hendo/ Pat
Lillard/ CJ/ Frazier

One other possible player is Jared Dudley. I think he is very underrated, only 29 years old, can defend and shoot the three. We might be able to snatch him up early in free agency right around the MLE.

Pretty sure I read that he opted in to stay in MIL

I wonder if Connaughton could start at SG and play 15-20 minutes a game as a 3 and D guy. Could be lesser version of Wes if we can't sign a starting SG

Doubtful. He is an even weaker ball-handler than Wes, and whoever we bring in at SF is likely to be a downgrade on Batum in that department. You would be leaving Dame alone on the island.

I'm thinking about if we got Monroe. Everything would be more inside out. We'd have CJ playing 30 minutes a game and hopefully a decent backup PG. Would you guys be opposed to Gerald Green as a starting 2 or 3?
