Counterpoint: If he traded Dame and CJ ran the show for a year it may boost his value enough to actually be tradable.

what a great plan: trade Dame so some idiot GM will be suckered into trading for MeJ

If you get to the point where you are trading Dame, you should definitely be rehabbing CJ's value to launch him out as well. Kind of like how OKC rehabbed Paul's value and then shipped him out first chance they got.

I like say if we have out come next year like this year they probably be looking for new GM. Why I took it he going run back with majority players coming back. But due DJJ not pan out he will be the one that will target to trade if he opt-in. But I get if he great offer for one of his players then he would pull the trigger.

I disagree....if you're trading Dame then for fuck sakes, dump CJ too because the BEST assets you will get in that case are the lottery picks for the next 3 or 4 seasons. Don't fuck around and try to rehab any reputation. Don't create a situation to lose 50 games when you can lose 65. CJ isn't going to rehab his value because the rest of the league knows exactly who he is

and for damn sure, if you have lottery picks, the last person you want in charge is Olshey

We really haven't been getting our money's worth out of Andrew Nicholson.

What you're saying is very possible but I've never heard Olshey say that Dame needs another superstar like he did in this press conference... he didn't say he'd get him one he just said that it was something he needed. He changed his tune about CJ being that superstar and grouped him in with the rest of the team who in Neil's words are all on the table as far as being tradeable. So maybe I'm being naive but I really think there's a great chance that we see a lot of movement on draft night and CJ could very well be involved. Neil even said that he was waiting until all of the GMs are together at the draft combine to start fielding offers or figuring that stuff out.

I think we'll have a coach by draft night and I think there will be a mission to build a better roster and especially get a player who is a better fit as a second option next to Dame.
He eluded to the process of having assets for trades. He's convinced Portland cannot attract FA's and Jody & Bert probably are as well.

I’m absolutely loving the social media response to the Olshey presser. He ain’t fooling anyone….except maybe Jody Allen. And if she’s paying any kind of attention at all, she’ll eventually figure it out. I just hope it’s sooner rather than later. I never thought I’d ever see a more arrogant POS General Manager that Darryl Morey but that individual DOES exist and he resides at 1 Center court…….

Interesting stats. But just about EVERY contender is in this situation. The Lakers are in even Worst condition due to the fact Father Time ain't lost, and he's beginning to show his entrance into the mustard and purple empire. That being said, Neil has to make some big deals this summer. With climate change, Portland's weather should suit him fine, so he should have no excuses for failing.

Because that's who buys the tickets and merch.

And all fans in all markets do this, it's not a Portland thing.
I guess we would need to watch press conferences for all NBA GMs to really gauge how awful he is. Trust me, I don’t think he’s the most likeable guy. But a press conference right after your season ends in shitty fashion and two days after firing your coach isn’t the best time for warm and fuzzy. And again, Neil is not without his faults by no means. His personality isn’t one that’s suited for fun conversations when it comes to his work.

Unless there are some notable changes (beyond just a new coach) this summer, I am fully prepared to significantly lower my expectations for next year.

I generally have unrealistic, slightly (but not overly) homerish optimism as we head into a new year.

If we have essentially the same roster with only a new coach, I'll have some slight reason for optimism but the continuation of an unbalanced roster and a relatively short, defensively weak backcourt, puts a huge damper on any excessive enthusiasm.

If I'm Powell, I don't resign here unless I have huge confidence in the new coach AND Olshey pulls a typical Olshey move and overpays for him to come back.

Maybe, just maybe, a new coach can get the concept of team play through CJ's head (perhaps a new coach would even have the balls to bench him for his selfishness) along with a concept of team defense.

Two things that often impressed me about other teams (even those that were supposedly not good) was that they actually put effort into defense and they actually played as a team (in general). If I wasn't already a Blazer fan, nothing Stotts had the team doing would make me one. Too much standing around and iso-ball. Boring ball.

Just be curious about what next year brings.

And please Nurk - keep making your comments. You are just stating what many of us feel - frustration with the current environment.

Gramps....

I guess we should have just kept Stotts

Has he commented yet on how he can improve by next year?

When OLSHEY talked about adding a defensive specialist in DJJ I realized that the team won’t look too much different next season :(

...defensive specialist.... we had No defensive specialists

they use headhunting/recruiting firms. it's how PA found Olshey if i recall

it’s just weird since most GMs that get hired are just retreads or already work for a front office in some capacity. I dunno why they need to go through a third party.

I finally just got time to watch the full interview. I’m confused why there is such backlash.
What did he say that was so bad?
Ive heard other GM's interviewed before and they all have their spin. What Neil said yesterday wasn't different in how others respond to reporters. In fact I thought he got specific on several fronts like Defense, Nurk and this towns inability to attract FA's/trades etc. Most company executives are nit going to share their laundry list or short long term strategies with a group of reporters and fan forum freaks. This operation is not de-centralized. Neil is the conduit to Jody & Bert who call ALL the shots, imo. To me its like a church denomination that changes pastors/preachers but the denomination tenants stay the same.
