The only silver lining is that maybe, just maybe the management realizes we can't keep getting off to these horrific offensive starts and expect to be a playoff contender. We need a scoring SF that's going to bring 15-20ppg and play some perimeter D.

Who? Luol Deng?

Gerald Wallace, John Salmons, Shawn Marion, Corey Maggette and Josh Howard would all be nice upgrades IMHO. SF is the easiest spot to upgrade in the NBA right now.

A hell no to Maggette.

How many players can we bank on eventually improving at one time? I think we're full up in that department, don't you?

Yea but Martell did average over 10 a game last year. I think 13 this year is within easy reach. It seemed pretty obvious to me he had added to his game in pre season. It's not like we didn't see him play at all this year.

I saw him a few times in at preseason games as well. He looked pretty much the same to me. He had some nice dunks on the break but couldn't get into the lane and also left perimeter defenders quite open.

Maybe this is why you are so down on Martell, your recollection of events is quite awful. Martell played exactly ONE preseason game. He led the team in scoring with 15, shooting 5-8 from the floor, 6 rebounds, one assist, two steals, one block, with one turnover in roughly 27 minutes of action. If you recall, his "chronically" injured foot was broken in that game. He hasn't played since. So, you saw one game and not a few. Also, here is what Blazer's edge said with regard to his performance:

"--I was definitely impressed with how Martell Webster came out. His defensive effort was superb compared to the old Martell. Good position, moving feet…he’s really putting in the work. Great to see."

You noticed him leaving players wide open. Okay. You don't like the guy. But I fail to see how your judgment has any worth when considering the rest of the evidence.

Salmons could be a very underrated option, IMO. He's a pretty good scorer that can play multiple positions. He may come fairly cheap, too.

Dude, I saw him at Fanfest scrimmage with the team. Technically not a preseason game, but he played (mediocre stat line below):

8 Martell Webster 5-14 1-5 8-8 2 0 5 0 1 19

His play there was pretty similar to the Kings preseason game. He hit only one of his 3-pointers and got most of his point on fast break dunks against weak defense.

It's unfortunate for Martell. He came in the best shape ever, and looked good in that one preseason game.
I just want to see him get a chance, and for us to find out if he's any sort of answer for us either as a starter or off the bench.

And OKC came up huge tonight... glad to see that, and not be such a totally worthless franchise like Memphis.

Even then, at 4 million per, he's a bargain. Just the mere fact of his and Outlaw's salaries for what they bring wants me to keep them on the team. That, and I like them both.

Fanfest is nothing more than a glorified all-star game. It's not real competition. I wouldn't use it as any kind of evidence one way or the other.

Neither a Kings preseason game or a fan scrimmage is much defensive competition. I guess that's why his stats were pretty close at both:

Fanfest: 19 points/5 boards 1-4 3-pointers.
Kings: 15 points/6 boards 1-5 3pointers

I don't understand how you can compare a fan scrimmage (something the players are putting on to entertain the fans) with a preseason game (something players take seriously when they're trying to earn playing time or a spot on a team).

That argument would work if the we didn't have players trying to make the squad at fanfest as well. Steven Hill, Jamaal Tatum and Shavlik Randolph were all fighting for the last roster spot. Plus rookies like Batum, Rudy and Bayless were all making a case for themselves in the summer as well (especially since Webster was healthy at the time and minutes were even less scarse).

Okay, so the fanfest had players that wanted to make the team. Assuming that they were taking it seriously and were playing their hardest, it would mean the defensive competition would be BETTER, not worse. Either way, Martell put up 19 points in the scrimmage and 15 in the preseason. Decent numbers in both outcomes. I don't see what leg you're standing on here? You're saying he didn't shoot well from the perimeter, so most of his points came off dunks. But in other threads you're saying he can only shoot, so I'm confused about what your stance is exactly.

On the plus side maybe KP realized how pathetic our offense and defense are and will fire Nate and his over rated ass.

I've often wondered how much of a difference a new coach would make on this team.

Ah, the emotional rollercoaster of the forums continues.
