The only silver lining is that maybe, just maybe the management realizes we can't keep getting off to these horrific offensive starts and expect to be a playoff contender. We need a scoring SF that's going to bring 15-20ppg and play some perimeter D.
Martell!
Who? Luol Deng?
Martell!
A career 8.1 PPG scorer with chronic foot problems!
Gerald Wallace, John Salmons, Shawn Marion, Corey Maggette and Josh Howard would all be nice upgrades IMHO. SF is the easiest spot to upgrade in the NBA right now.
A hell no to Maggette.
yes, because he'll never improve. the better option is to panic!
Yea but Martell did average over 10 a game last year. I think 13 this year is within easy reach. It seemed pretty obvious to me he had added to his game in pre season. It's not like we didn't see him play at all this year.
I saw him a few times in at preseason games as well. He looked pretty much the same to me. He had some nice dunks on the break but couldn't get into the lane and also left perimeter defenders quite open.
Maybe this is why you are so down on Martell, your recollection of events is quite awful. Martell played exactly ONE preseason game.
Dude, I saw him at Fanfest scrimmage with the team. Technically not a preseason game, but he played (mediocre stat line below):
8 Martell Webster 5-14 1-5 8-8 2 0 5 0 1 19
His play there was pretty similar to the Kings preseason game. He hit only one of his 3-pointers and got most of his point on fast break dunks against weak defense.
Fanfest is nothing more than a glorified all-star game. It's not real competition. I wouldn't use it as any kind of evidence one way or the other.
Neither a Kings preseason game or a fan scrimmage is much defensive competition. I guess that's why his stats were pretty close at both:
Fanfest: 19 points/5 boards 1-4 3-pointers.
Kings: 15 points/6 boards 1-5 3pointers
I don't understand how you can compare a fan scrimmage (something the players are putting on to entertain the fans) with a preseason game (something players take seriously when they're trying to earn playing time or a spot on a team).
That argument would work if the we didn't have players trying to make the squad at fanfest as well. Steven Hill, Jamaal Tatum and Shavlik Randolph were all fighting for the last roster spot. Plus rookies like Batum, Rudy and Bayless were all making a case for themselves in the summer as well (especially since Webster was healthy at the time and minutes were even less scarse).
On the plus side maybe KP realized how pathetic our offense and defense are and will fire Nate and his over rated ass.

---- i hear yaAh, the emotional rollercoaster of the Blazers continues.
