This team hasn't had an alpha player since Dame left...Jrue is an alpha player...he's a team captain, lockerroom and floor general...they need somebody with allstar pedigree to give us an identity..these are why teams hire Chris Paul's of the era..leadership. Jrue is that guy. I would expect him to get top billing from Mark Mason at home games.

I feel like the narrative has shifted. Yes we were never a destination for top tier free agents, but why are people acting like we couldn’t sign ANY free agents? That’s simply not true.

Some guys want to give every opportunity to the young guys. But then we want also to sign a Full MLE guy. With the depth we currently have and the flexibility of doing a 2for1 trade with Grant, I don't think giving up cap space now is this good of an idea. If NAW wanted to come here, it's an other conversation. But why give money and playing time to Taurean Prince or whoever else?

That would be next year then...they're not selling it next season...and it'll have zero effect on what Cronin does with the roster. Nobody knows what new owners could do.

I agree with that. But this 1st day of FA isn't the only avenue to get this shooting. I would wait opening night to judge our offseason.

Outside the unusual Dame trade the Blazers have never had a meaningful roster addition between day2 of free agency and opening night since Olshey.

Seems quite unlikely there's any additional substantive roster change.

how would that pass muster in the CBA

Jrue+Hauser = about 42.5M in salary. Ant's salary is 27.7M. That's a 14.8M differential when it appears the max differential is 7.6M



BUT WAIT! I just figured out how it could work: the Blazers absorb Hauser into their MLE. I know the Blazers need some floor spacing, but Hauser seems like a one-trick pony. I'm not sure that's a good use of the MLE

I’m sure this isn’t going to be popular but what about Ben Simmons? Guy is an elite defender capable of playing multiple positions and can push the ball. Nice backup who can give you minutes at 4-5 positions. Head case yes injured a lot yes but for right price I’d do it. Imagine lineup of Deni, Jrue, Tou, Simmons and Clingan (not starters but if you need a stop)

Yeah I both love the trade for next season but recognize it as a likely bad move. Jrue is exactly the type of player every team wants. But paying a 37 year old that much isnt smart

We don't have to grind him down as we fight for contention like Boston. And his game is not based on athleticism necessarily

Would rather get a higher IQ person and intelligent locker room teammate.

For the right amount of talent I'd take on a headcase. That worked well for us back in the day with JR Rider. I'd consider Zion along those lines.

But I'm not doing it for an end of the bench quality player like Simmons is today.

Thats fine for the 14th guy on the roster. But it needs to be someone who either has upside or is a nice stable vet. Simmons is neither.
