Bayless. The guy has shown great improvement and lots of potential. Now he is a not even a player in the roation. Nate is going with our consistant below average Sergio. I hope Bayless gets traded this summer so he can go to a team that will let him grow and be a player in the is league. Showing loyalty is overated. Sergio is better then last year, but isn't worth keeping him in the second unit. Nate is choosing the wrong guy. I was worried that this would happen. Does anyone else worry about Bayless sitting?

I'm worried about Nate's mentality playing Sergio over Bayless...

I agree that is the main reason I wanted Sergio traded. I didn't mind keeping Outlaw at least he makes some clutch shots in the 4th qtr but keeping Sergio is just keeping Bayless from developing. I think Bayless is going to be a star in this league but maybe not for the Blazers.

I'm disappointed. Jerryd deserves to get some PT. The guy has already shown he can change the complexion of a game immediately when he steps on the court, which is rare for a rookie. He's our future PG, and he's shown he's ready for some reserve minutes... Arghhh

Bayless fans need to get their heads out from underneath his jock and pay attention to what the coach says about Bayless, and what he needs to do to earn more PT. Nate is no bullshitter, he does what he says. And he says the team will resume the rotation they had at the beginning of the season now that Blake has returned. He has said that would be the plan all along. And he has said that the primary reason is that while Bayless may be a good individual defender he does not understand the teams defensive schemes and does not know many of the offensive plays. Unless there is an injury, or until Bayless learns that stuff his role will remain the same.

I am a huge Bayless fan! He brings just what we need. Toughness, heart, the ability to take it to the rim, and he can stay with his man on defense. Sure, he's rough, but so what? It's better than having someone who is ineffective in most aspects of the game.

The sad thing is, we're young, but we play like a bunch of 40 year old men. Young teams should be exciting, but the biggest spark plug on out team rides the pine.

Bayless isn't the biggest loser, it's the fans.

Sergio does worse on team defense, and his offensive abilities are becoming stagnant as well, so your point is moot.

Bullshit!

Then why and the hell does Travis ever play?

No.

Your opinion is. Because Nate McMillian is running the team, not you. Its HIS opinions I related in my post. And while you may feel strongly about Bayless, Nates opinion matters more than yours does.

No, Nate is stubborn, he always has been, and he always will be.

Bayless is the only guy outside of Roy to consistently get to the FT line off the dribble. This team needs cheap points and he fits the bill well.

Sergio is simply not a quality NBA PG.

I sometimes wish I still covered the Blazers, because I would straight up ask Nate why he is playing Sergio at all.

Stubborn?
Stupid?
Genius?

Whatever?

He is in charge, not you or any of us. And when he lays out a scenario for you the way he did with Bayless and his PT, he isn't kidding and he isn't changing his mind next week because of anything you post here. He has told you how it is, and that is how it is.

Neither is Bayless.

Not that he can't become one, or won't one day be a very good player in this league.

There is a reason many teams are interested in trading for Bayless. I think he would be starting for some of those teams and at least getting meaningful PT with all of them. There is no scenario layed out by Nate that Sergio is following better then Bayless. You sir don't know what your talking about.

....and if he said, "off the record, its because Kevin told me I have to", how would you be able to keep that to yourself? :) :)

Since neither of them are, why not play the one who might be with some experience and development--Bayless?

I guess Bayless is not because you say so. I think there are many other teams that think he is and are willing to trade for him. I also bet Bayless was one of the guys along with Batum that KP wasn't going to trade.

No.

You don't.

Because apparently you are unable to process what Nate has said about Bayless. Nobody is saying he isn't a great young talent. He is. And he has a good attitude and works hard.

Nate isn't going to play him now, and he explained why. You disagree with our coaches assessment of Bayless knowledge of our system.

That is your privelage.

I'm guessing the position is more Sergio's to lose than Bayless' to gain. This is basically Sergio's make it or break it period in the next 29 games. 3 things can happen 1) He absolutely blows up and shows that he's capable of being more than an inconsistent bench performer 2) he's steady and shows that he has enough talent in this league to be valuable to either this team or another which raises his trade value, or 3) he falters and shows that a long term commitment is not warranted.

As for Jerryd, I'm a huge fan, and I think he positively oozes "it factor," but he's raw as hell and really stuggles to get the team into it's sets consistently play to play, night to night. I'm perfectly content with the rookie working his ass off over the next 29 games and then focusing exclusively on his point guard skills over the summer as his off-season homework.

Hench the reason a lot of people don't like the coach.

You like him, we get it, but many of us don't feel he's the right coach to bring us to the next level. He's playing certain players to give us a better "Shot" at winning games this year, but the plan is to apparently "wait 2-3 more years" so wouldn't it make more sense to develop the player that is supposedly our "future"? And if he's not our future, why not trade him?

Your mistake is believing everything Nate says is correct. It's not.

I think if anyone's traded, it's Blake to a playoff team (I would've thought ORL would have been all over him).

Bayless is the long-term starting PG, or he doesn't have a spot here. It's really that simple. He's the 3rd-best SG on the team, and he needs to show he can be the best PG. Sergio's the best PG with a running unit. The team defends better with Sergio on the court, no matter how much you may not like it. 82games.com

Who cares? This team never runs anyways.

Ask the coach.

Yeah...I think the point here is that some of us disagree with the coach's decision. Not a big deal, it's not like I'm saying I'm a world-class expert on coaching a team, but part of the point of a discussion forum is to render opinions and discuss. ;)

From what I can see, neither Sergio nor Bayless is currently starter-caliber, but Sergio hasn't improved a whole lot in his 2.5+ seasons while Bayless does seem to be improving. So, it seems to me that it would be wiser to go with the player who's actually getting better since both are sub-optimal.

I think Nate is more concerned about winning games then developing players.

Bayless will get more chances (when Blazers need instant scoring or a player to take it strong to the hoop) but that is not the primary purpose of the PG in Nate's system.
