Walter "fucking loser" Berry. Watching the draft he continued to slip as he was expected to be somewhere around mid top 10 and he ended up sliding to us at 14th. He had won several awards so he was very high regarded and then the press conference came where he basically said he didn't want to play for the Blazers and would leave as soon as his contract was up. He was quickly dealt to the Spurs for Duckworth so it all worked out well and Berry was out of the league in 3 years. We definitely dodged a bullet.

No we didn't draft him. He was a Blazer, and did play two games for us 10 years ago. That's why I chose him. He's gonna kick some major ass, and make me look like Einstein!

Nah. I still wouldn't look like Alfred. Maybe the hair, but that's about it....

Edit: So was @Wade Garrett just talking about people we drafted, or any that played for us? We didn't draft Miles, and a couple guys picked him.

Did Albert have a brother I am not aware of?

Q Woods.
But the most embarrassing one I thought would turn out to be starter quality was Ha Sin Jin.

And I’m the only one left on Meyers Island. I still think he’s going to be a very good backup or competent starter in the next couple seasons (for someone else).

My homer run strong!

eh past two years Nards has been a solid NBA role player.
You're not alone on the island. People just are slow to come around to that fact.

What he becomes in MIA who knows. As all the interviews I've seen with him, they've yet to give him a basketball role. Even went so far to ask what was expected of him and didn't get a straight answer.

Well anyone who played basketball at Kickapoo High School has to be pretty good. :bgrin:

Rudy

Really thought Marcus Camby was a keeper. Remember when entire Rose Garden chanted his name?
I do...that lasted about 7 games...he made 13.3 million way back then to play that many games for us with any energy at all...good call

Nick Stauskas after that 24 pt debut still doesn't have a job

There was SF in the 1980's (around 1983-5) who I believe we got on a draft day trade. But I can't remember his name! It is driving me crazy. Anyway he was about 6'8" , good range on his jumper, athletic, good rebounder, decent handles, maybe a little over weight.......What I didn't know was how stupid he was nor his love for being stoned while playing. He never made it but he had a lot of potential.

Anyone know? He is not on any of the rosters, but I swear he was on the team for at least a year.

Um... Hutchison I guess but he has time?

Trying to think... hold on.

Audie Norris?

Monya was the second player that came to mind but I don't know why I thought he was going to be any good to begin with. Maybe because he smoked cigars and was cool idk.

I remember going to opening night against the Hawks during Monia’s rookie year. He played quite well and thought the same thing. That was likely his best game if I remember correctly.

Yup. 8 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists. He never scored in double figures for us, maxed out at 5 assists and his rebound high was 8. That could be why we expected more out of him.

I thought Sidney Wicks would be a lot better than he was.

A few young guys we either drafted or came in early I thought might be good someday and weren't, Joel Freeland, Victor Claver, Thomas Robinson.

The problem with Camby was that he was already 35 years old when he was traded here. His stint in Portland was pretty good considering his age.

Are you thinking of either Ronnie Murphy? He was pretty highly touted but battled weight issues and never got any traction in the NBA. He was our first round pick in 1988.

This wasn't the 80's but in 1992 we took Dave Johnson in the 1st round too. I don't remember if he was overweight at all but he did flame out too.

Here's a name from prehistory: Bernie Fryer.

Fell short as a player, then fell even shorter as a ref.
