Um, yes. Yes I am. Are you defending the move on this one? You think it's ok to run a lineup of Miller/Matthews/Roy where Roy and Miller are a defensive disadvantage? We're not going to agree on this, I fear.

Nate has always been a matchup coach, so why is this surprising? You can always try and figure out what Nate is going to do next by watching what the other team is doing. If they go small, we are going small. If they go big, we will go big. The problem being, we are always playing their game, and not ours.

Haven't read through the entire thread . . . but cool things about the game:

-besides the wells fargo on the back of the hats, i thought the rip city baseball hats were cool

-chalupas can now be redeemed using your Blazer ticket (I like the coupons better because I gave them away)

-the t-shirt give away has a new toy, a machine gun type toy that shoots out 3-4 tshirts at one time. very cool. But no more little basketballs?

-our isle won a free grocery bag, a little basketball and a water bottle, but it was never announced

-the well fargo basketball shpts to win money . . . fan hit the lay up the top of the key and the three point shot and made the one time free throw

-there is going to be a fight taht breaks out over the parachute drop . . . one fan grabs the box, another fan grags the parachute and another fan grabs the strings and they all fight over who gets the fifty dollars usually decided by who is the first intot he box to get the coupon out

-Cho is sitting next to PA, so his job seems secure for now

-Miller sat on the other side of Allen, retrieved a ball for the ref and went to sit in his seat taqht folded up making Miller fall flat on his ass . . . I thought it was funny

-I think there was also a game played, but who watches that with all the excitement in the arena

I don't think it's really fair to complain that Portland never imposes its will on the other team when Portland perennially has the slowest pace in the league.

All I'm saying is I think that was the very first substitution of the season and although I am used to the Nate bashing and questioning on this board, it takes it to a new level to question his very first substitution of the season, IMO.

Was it the right decision . . . I don't know? But we must watch games differently. I'm not looking to jump on a player or a coach for one decision or one bad play. He substituted Matthews for Nic instead of Miller in the first 6 minutes of the game . . . I'm guessing not many fans or meida are going to see a problem with it the way you do.

But anyways, no biggie. This is a chat board and you have all the right to question the coach. Personally, I see the decision as a non-factor in the game, but I understand you feel like it was a bad decision. There will be more by Nate . . . and every other coach in the NBA.

I watch the game and say "why are we allowing 56% shooting to a team with no low post presence? Oh wait, it's because we're defending Nash and Richardson with Miller and Roy. Then bringing in Rudy to guard Nash." When we have the ability to put out a lineup of Roy/Matthews/Batum on a perimeter-heavy team.
All I'm saying is that this is another in a streak of odd decisions dealing with rotations and players. Going back to Travis starting over Batum, after telling Batum he'd start. Or having Sergio play SG so that Jack could be the primary PG. Or starting MIller/Blake/Roy. Ad infinitum. NOW let's hear you defend it with something other than "you're a stinky nate-basher! argh!"

Wow you are taking this personally. OK here is defending my position . . . it is absoulutely nuts and ultra hyper compulsive to start questioning a coach on the very first substitution they make for the season. there is more there than an unbiased fan . . . that fan is looking to bitch.

Were you there during practices? How many preseason games did you go to? Do you have any idea what the coaches thought were going into the first game. Maybe Nate wanted to see what Miller, Roy and Matthews could do as soon as possible? Maybe Nic's shoulder hurts and they were going to give it a first 6 minute regular season test and get him out? Maybe Nate wants to leave Miller in a little longer a get him in more game shape? Maybe Nate likes the way Miller and Wes practiced togehter? There are so many factors we are not privy to that to sit there and start analyzing and publically taking shots at Nate for subbing Wes for Nic instead of Miller at the 6 minute mark of the first game is crazy.

So yes, I'm sure a poster who questions the very first decision a coach makes in the first quarter of a first game (which had little impact on the game) is a fan looking to bash Nate, IMO.

I don't know if I need to say it again but since you think I have no argument . . . we are talking the first substitution of the first game of the season (did I say that).

It's not a breach of national security to point out that Miller doesn't defend quick point guards well and Roy defends only when he wants to, which is generally in the last 30 seconds of a game. That's all.

You say you don't understand why Nate did that substitution and I'm trying to explain of course we don't know, we don't know what has been happening for the past six or so weeks because the season just started.

How are you suppose to understand a substitution when all they have been doing practicing and playing games that don't count. There could be many reasons . . . you are surprised you don't understand and then immediately detremine it is Nate being his quirky susbstition self? If you don't understand (according to your words) then why blame Nate for something you don't understand?

I've been watching up-close and liking Nate since 1990. He's one of my favorite players ever. Get over yourself. I don't like elements of the way Nate's teams play, and the inconsistencies that continue to be borne out (to the detriment of the team). The very first substitution of the season he did something I don't understand, and you're pulling excuses out of your anus hoping that one of them can come to his rescue from a big, bad, clueless fan.

As I said, there are other avenues to get into pissing matches with people for attention. I'm not one for that.

Do you feel that those substitutions weren't odd, or are you just pulling out more random crap to justify your continuing this discussion? You feel that telling someone at noon that they're starting, then not starting them, then starting them three days later is the norm in the NBA? Or that Sergio should've been playing SG his entire time here, b/c it wasn't odd at all to play him that way? I'm going to enjoy this, if you bother to respond.

First sorry for the fan looking to bitch, I thought you attacked first. (not the ultar hyper compulsive . . . because we all are on this board when it comes to certain topics about the Blazers.

BFW . . . I have an arguement. My arguement is anyone who is analyzing the first substitution of the season is overanalyzing a situation that they have very little information about (have you not undestood my argument all this time).

I get your arguement, you didn't like the substitution because in that 6 minutes you thought with the high feild goal percentage it is a mistake to take out a good defender on the Phx guards. My arguement are you kidding, it is the first substitution of the season (My guess is Nate had that sustitution in mind before the game started and probably based on all the practice time and what he saw in practice . . . that would make sense right? Do you know some coaches map out the first 10 plays of a football game regardless of what the otehr team is doin ) It's like why don't we go ahead and analyze why the new center got over 3 minutes in the first half. If this was the end of the game, I would get you jumping on who Nate had in the game, but this was the first quarter of the game.

Look it's no secret that you have wanted Nate fired for over a year now, and then you jump on his first substitution and want to argue the merits of the substitution. I'm calling you out as that is a over the top and I guess we are now to all this.

And nice pull? I got that on the same page of this thread that you said I created stuff you were saying.. You want a nice pull I could go back and show where you have wanted Nate fired for a while . . . but who has time for that.

I get you will be all over Nate's decisions starting day one decision one . . .l I should have just let it go, but now that I am in this deep I will maintain that I think you are over the top and your dislike for Nate is creally what this is about when you are analyzing his first substitution. But no doubt Nate will make some move in teh 4th quarter, the Blazers will lose and then you will have good fuel to blast Nate as a coach . . . and plenty of psoters agreeing with you. So your day will come, I just don't think that first substitution makes your point.

I sure hope they get rid of that stupid intro with the players coming down out of the stands before one of the players trips and falls down the stairs while trying to slap hands with fans.

I've said it before but it is obvious from the expressions on the player's faces that they are not happy to be doing that.

Well, I already admitted I was wrong about this, since Canzano made the same comment as me.

But just to argue the point - it isn't so easy to go down stairs (especially broad stairs like in the RG) while looking here and there at various people trying to get in your face and slap hands, etc. It's really easy to fall down stairs even when you don't have dozens of people actually trying to distract you.
