Pretty sure that this took place 10 years ago around the Farallon Islands located 10 miles due west from SF. The continental shelf drops off just west of the islands which brings an upwelling of cold nutrient rich water nearby. This upwelling brings small baitfish, which brings seals, which brings great whites. This area is one of the great whites main breeding areas and a scientific community has been established there for decades now
