Wow Shelstad just hit the portal. Going to be a big change on the basketball team next year.

That seems like a rejection of the program. Will the coach be fired?
They put a really bad team around him.

Dude wants to compete. And he was the only real basketball player (who could create anything) on the team last season... In which he was injured...

This has to land squarely on Altman.

from what I've been told, the basketball programs at Oregon, both men's and women's, are low priority for some reason. Not a lot of NIL support. They aren't a poverty program but while the football team may be top 3 in the Big-10 in NIL, the BB program isn't even top-12.

5* QB Will Mencl is said to be announcing tomorrow. He's been the Ducks main QB target for many months. He has good physical traits but it's his ability to process that makes him an elite prospect.

Also, rumblings from the Spring practices that Akili Smith has taken steps forward and been showing really well.

...btw, Oregon was among Mencl's 1st offers and he was visiting Eugene again this past week with his parents. Predictions have been coming in for the Ducks... he's committing on Youtube at 430 PM

Here's a favorite depth chart link that shows a rough projection of whats to come in the fall...

The QB depth chart is a little murky after Dante Moore being the obvious starter. Maybe the biggest offseason acquisition to the roster is former Nebraska starter Dylan Riaola. He's a former 5* recruit with size and a big arm but not a lot of mobility. Akili Smith Jr is in his 2nd year in the program and has even more size and an even bigger arm but no college experience yet. Last in the mix is last year's very capable backup Brock Thomas. The RB depth chart seems pretty set with Jordon Davison and Dierre Hill at the top. To round out their respective games, Davison needs to improve his pass catching while Hill needs to improve in pass protection. Oregon typically rotates 3 backs in games though and there is some intrigue who wins that spot. Dink Riggs returns from injuries and is probably the frontrunner over true Freshman Tradarian Ball and Brandon Smith. The WR room has some interesting stuff to watch for with Evan Stewart returning from missing last season with a knee and stud Dakorian Moore entering year 2. The expected 3rd WR Jeremiah McClellan is going to miss the game with whats described as a minor injury. Portal transfer Iverson Hooks bears a watch along with true Freshman speedster Gatlain Bair.

I liked watching the Lines clash and seeing what young guys might emerge. Typically the D is ahead of the Offense this early in the cycle and thats doubly so in this format where the OLine talent is split between 2 squads and they're moving guys around trying different positions/combos out. Below is the youtube link of the game... enjoy!

Tokyo Oregon Football Showcase Presented by Flight Club to Bring Oregon Coaches and Players to Japan to Strengthen Ties Between American and Japanese Football

PORTLAND, OR
— April 27, 2026 -- Division Street Events, in partnership with the Japan Gridiron Association, announced today that it will stage the Tokyo Oregon Football Showcase presented by Flight Club, taking place June 25-27 in Tokyo. This groundbreaking international event will bring the Oregon Ducks football team to Japan, celebrating the deep-rooted historical connection between Oregon and Japanese American Football and tapping into the growing enthusiasm for the sport in the region.

"The Tokyo Oregon Football Showcase continues our legacy of creating innovative programs for student-athletes that are unmatched in the industry," said Division Street CEO Rosemary St. Clair. "This event will be a celebration of how sport transcends borders and creates lasting cultural connections. Our goal is to introduce Oregon athletes and the Duck football brand to Japanese fans and establish a foundation of excitement and fan engagement that we can build on in future years."

The inaugural showcase will focus on introducing the excitement of 7-on-7 American football within the Japanese football community. While American football has been played in Japan for more than 100 years, and Japanese flag football teams are among the world's best, 7-on-7 competitions are a new concept there.

Participating University of Oregon athletes will conduct a live exhibition to demonstrate fundamental skills, core concepts and techniques. In addition, Oregon Coach Dan Lanning will lead a coaches clinic covering basic route combinations, offensive concepts, and broader tactical strategies.

"The opportunity to represent the University of Oregon in Tokyo is a once-in-a-lifetime experience," Lanning said. "Football has taken all of us to incredible places, and it will be special to connect with players and coaches who love this game as much as we do. We are excited to share how we approach the game and to be part of something that's much bigger than one trip."

The event will take place at The American School in Japan (ASIJ) and will include standout Oregon players Dante Moore, Dakorien Moore, Jamari Johnson, Jeremiah McClellan, Evan Stewart, Jordon Davison, and Dierre Hill Jr. While there, Division Street plans to engage with key stakeholders to explore the potential for launching a more permanent league concept for youth and high school players.

"We are thrilled to partner with Division Street Events on the Tokyo Oregon Football Showcase," said Japan Gridiron Association co-founder Tyler Moore. "This event represents a historic opportunity for Japanese athletes to watch and learn from one of America's premier football programs."

"Having Coach Lanning and the caliber of talent from the University of Oregon come to Japan demonstrates the growing recognition of our community's passion for American football," added JGA co-founder Joshua Cisneros.

George & Aaron chop it up over the Spring game and the Mencl commitment. They go on to discuss the recruiting weekend that was where George drops that they landed 3 verbals... his info is usually on point. He also states they had a highly rated secret visitor meaning someone who's committed elsewhere. Looking forward to the rest of this week
