fFr me calling both parties at this point time for not striving to get anything done is ok.

It's totally ok, but not a reason to vote for (or against) someone.

Im an old democrat, turned republican, turned independent.

Things sure do change over time.

Over the past 50 years something amazing has happened in America. The anti-establishment has become the establishment. The outsiders have become the insiders. The radicals have become the entrenched.
I'm a former Republican turned Independent turned Democrat. Why? Because I think Republicans have gone bonkers and only one thing stands in there way and it ain't independents.

Why do I have a sudden image of Lake Oswego with the lake drained?

Every winter I have that image in my mind but it seldom happens. So far this winter, it hasn't happened. When I was a boy it happened every winter. I remember that in Karen Halvorsen's fifth and sixth grade classes those of us who were lucky enough to get in her class got invited out to Halvorsen Island, now Jantzen island, to bury our empty mayonnaise jar full of memorabilia such as baseball cards favorite marbles, favorite superman comic books and the like and dig them up the following winter. We moved to Portland to start my seventh grade so I guess there's a Mickey Mantle's card, a puree boulder shooting marble and a super man comic book buried somewhere in the mud near Jantzen Island.

Man, I had Miss Halvorsen (Palisades Elementary) in fifth grade! We NEVER got to do any of that cool stuff! I had some whacko named Mr Anderson of 6th grade. He was a complete narcissist.

There are as many radicle lefties as there are righties.
So both parties could use some work.

Republicans probably have their best chance at getting a candidate in as governor this race. A very small chance but hey

Not a chance.

The Dems don't have a strong candidate as far as I can tell yet. Tina Kotek and Tobias Reed.

Betsy Johnson is an independent who was formerly a democratic, but often voted with Republicans...so basically a Republican in Democratic clothing.

She claims to now be independent because she is tired of partisan BS. Im not against a moderate politician who can be bi partisan and agrees with some of both sides of the fence while staying within sense. I'm not sure that really does describe her because of her voting history.

Can a politician really be independent? Can they really be non partisan? Everyone is biased one way or the other. I guess if you truly have willingness to work with both sides that is what independent really is. Still, not sold on Betsy.

I could see that. But, maybe the independent wins. Kotek is a weak candidate.

That's a win for Republicans. She often has voted with Republicans on many occasions. They would like old Betsy.

I should run as an independent and make you my campaign manager.

"If Cats and Dogs can work together then I can bring unity to everyone else!"

You should start the cat and dog party

There are already Blue and Yellow dog politicians

Karen was a student in my fifth and sixth grade classes and not a teacher. Also, I was at Forest Hills.

An asymptotic chance. Virtually zero.

Yep, too bad for the Dems that the journalist was excluded; he had the biggest war chest of the bunch.

I haven't examined her voting history, but how often did she vote with Republicans vs Democrats? Does not perfectly toeing the Democrat party line mean you're "basically a Republican"?

In my mind, being an independent doesn't mean you don't tend to lean one direction or the other, but means that you're not financially connected to either party and its leaders, that you have no political obligation to side with one side over the other. Partisan politicians spend much of their time in office worried about political and financial support from the party, and constantly have party representatives in their ear. An independent will generally be free from those encumbrances, and will be more beholden to the constituency.

She voted with Republicans against taxation of the rich, against bills to curb climate and change and protect the environment, and against gun control to name a few. She claims to be a centrist, but really seems to be lopsided to the right. She claims to be a populist to gain the vote of blue collar voters, but is beholden to corporations from which she has received the majority of her campaign funding, and who she helped while in the Oregon house and Senate.

But, she is financially beholden to corporations who she is taking money from, who are funding her campaign. That's why I question if one can truly be independent. She has practiced partisan politics even if she has pretended not to. She has pretended to be beholden to the constituency when she has really been beholden to corporations.

I don't trust it. It feels like the republicans trying to get in the back door. I wouldn't mind voting for someone of true centrism, but again she appears to be biased to the right.

The worst kind of independent. Virtually all the bad parts of both parties.

Looking at votes that weren't nearly unanimous:

SB 881 (amend legislative districts)--voted yes with Democrats
HB 3352 (insurance eligibility for undocumented)--voted yes with Democrats
HB 3291 (vote by mail postmarked by election date)--voted no with Republicans
HB 3021 (make a list of 5 most common languages in each county)--voted yes with Democrats
HB 3265 (strengthens states sanctuary law)--voted no with Republicans
HB 2001 (School Districts to Retain Educators Based on Diversity and Cultural Merits)--voted yes with Democrats
HB 3115 (Allow homeless to shelter on public property)--voted no with Republicans
HB 3124 (Extend timeline for homeless to remove property)--voted no with Republicans

Kinda seems like she hits both sides. I'll have to examine the record in greater detail when I have time.

'We're not ashamed': Republican Oregon Governor favorite admits he and his wife belonged to SWINGERS group after saucy private Facebook posts were leaked
  • Oregon Gubernatorial candidate Stan Pulliam (R), 40, was outed as a swinger when Facebook posts and a photo from Portland's Erotic Ball in 2011 surfaced
  • Pulliam, the current two-term mayor of his hometown Sandy, is polling in second place among Republican candidates and has raised $1Million
  • He admitted to a local publication that he and his wife, MacKensey, 'explored relationships, mutual relationships with other couples, for a brief period'
  • Although he said the decision 'wasn't for us,' he is 'not ashamed' of the choices they 'made in the privacy of [their] own home,' which have made them 'stronger'
  • He said that his past sexual activity is consistent with the values around which he's built his campaign, namely those of individuality and liberty

Bumper sticker:

Vote Pulliam
This Guy Fucks!

I always thought she was kinda hot.

And people wanted to impeach Bill Clinton for much less than that. Eating live babies and selling others into sex slavery is less, isn't it?
