Any more boneheads want to tell me that the government doesn't want to take my guns? If this bill passes, owners of an 'assault weapon', (including dozens, maybe hundreds, of common semi-auto pistol models), will be allowed to register ONE of them. If you own more than one, the rest must be destroyed, sold or shipped out of state.

Same for keeping high capacity magazines. Three mags can be registered. The rest must go.

To register, owner must submit to background check....and what a fucking surprise, the State will charge the owner for that privilege. Never mind the owner went through the background check when they bought the gun (and paid for that privilege, too). The owner will have to store the gun in a way deemed acceptable by the state, and submit to an unspecified number of (warrantless) inspections of that storage.

If I read it correctly, the owner will not be allowed to shoot the gun on public property, except a public gun range.

It will be a felony to possess an unregistered AW or HCM.

Anyone that thinks this will stop people from walking into schools and killing people is delusional.

What is DOES do is create a list of where all of the guns are for when they decide to outlaw them.

Yay, we can be just like California!

Honestly, this bill is so far over the line it's like they're trying to provoke violence. I know a lot of people who say that the 2nd amendment is a line that they will not allow to be crossed. This should, at the very least, be something that is put in front of the people for a vote. This should not be decided by the state government.

From my cold dead hands!

ighly publicized bills that would ban the sale of high-capacity gun magazines as well as semi-automatic miltary-style rifles now appear to be off the table at the Oregon Legislature.
Sen. Ginny Burdick, D-Portland, said Wednesday that she is backing off an attempt to push through a bill on gun clips that she drafted following the December shootings at the Clackamas Mall.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Floyd Prozanski, D-Eugene, who is another key figure in the gun-control debate, said he doesn't plan to take up Burdick's legislation or another bill in the House that would bar the sale of semi-automatic military-style rifles often known as assault weapons.

No replies from the condescending jerkoffs that want to tell me that the government doesn't want to take the guns from the citizens?

That's what I thought.

An awful lot of angst over a Bill that will never even get a hearing.

jeesh, I wish people would've gotten this upset when we went to war in Iraq....or started denying people the right to vote.

People were this upset, trust me, but I think more people would have spoken up if they would have realized that we'd be in Iraq and Afghanistan for ten years.

You're kind of an angry person. Now I think they should take your guns.

This sentence hurt my brain.

Point being, there are people here that act like you're an idiot if you think the government wants to take your guns. The fact that 13 Portland politicians (All Democrats) signed on to do just exactly that proves, beyond a doubt, that taking my guns is precisely what they want to do. Then the know it alls disappear.

What do you think about President Obama sending armed troops to Niger?

Fools that are willing to give up their constitutional rights cause us penis triggers to loose our rights too. Yeah, that pisses me off.

Interesting that a religious bigot like yourself would be judging anyone else.

You still following that antiquated Catholic tradition?

I have no problems banning assault rifles fully.

As to sending troops to Niger, I trust Obama is making a good decision. He has advisers and he certainly deserves the benefit of the doubt.

The same advisers that told him it was a good idea to give the Mexican drug cartels 2000 fully automatic weapons?

So vicious. Yeah, you definitely shouldn't have any guns.

Also, that doesn't make sense. If I was a religious bigot like you suggest doesn't it make sense that I'd judge?

They aren't just banning assault rifles.

They're banning "assault weapons", which they pretty much term anything that's semi-automatic and can hold a mag bigger than ten rounds. That's most semi-auto pistols as well.

All the better.

I thought you would use up your quota of judging people by being a bigot toward other's religions.

Like I give a rat's ass if you think I should have a gun.

What is so bad about guns? Seriously, people rage and throw fits about shootings like newtown, but in the grand scheme of things, one school shooting that kills 26 people isn't even a blip on the radar in terms of how many people die every day from cancer, car wrecks, etc. People focus way too much attention on little things and completely ignore the big picture. Our country is going into the shitter and it's damn sure not from guns.

Why not focus on fixing our damn economy, or maybe stop letting politicians sell us out for a sack of cash from corporations like Monsanto?

Not that guns are a complete non-issue, but I agree with this sentiment. There are slightly more vehicle homicide deaths related to drunk driving than there are gun deaths in the US and no ones clamoring to outlaw alcohol or cars. That doesn't even include all the other societal problems alcoholism causes. There's bigger things to worry about in this country than gun control.

But a bunch of dead children will always draw attention, and people would rather be immediately outraged about something, rather than open up their eyes and see the big picture. Our country is in trouble, but we're the frog in the pot that's slowly heating up. Unfortunately we probably won't realize the water is about to boil before it's too late.

they are gonna take my guns and melt them into freedom

one day the sun will rise on a nation of cannibals, eating their way to the top, the 1% will protest the non-use of bearnaise, while the poor complain about working conditions

same as it ever was
