Oregon leads nation in umemployemt

I skimmed the article in the Oregonian. Apparently we have passed Michigan in umemployment and I believe Oregon has the highest unemployment rate in teh country at 12.3%. And the gov thinks that number will go higher.

I think the O said 12.1%, and this was higher than Michigan's from last month. The implication I took was that Michigan has not yet reported for this month, and they might be still higher.

I thought we were third until our latest report, but I saw barfo's response and strangely enough, it makes sense.

I'll look for the Oregonian article . . . I skimmed it and might have read it wrong.

I don't know exactly where Oregon is ranked for March . . . but it is bad.

I had to leave the state and go to Colorado to get a job. Though I can't complain, Denver is awesome. Times are tough though.

I don't know when the honeymoon is "over". First Friday on the job everyone goes out to happy hour (work with a lot of 23-28 year olds), my manager pulls out a company card and puts everything on the company. So that was nice. Probably a few hundred bucks. Apparently it happens about once every 4-6 weeks.

I was hired in March, and the company annual retreat is in Puerto Rico in June, so I get to go to that. Right now things are great. I think in the fall I might start working a lot more hours on my project, but I get overtime which can really help. So...I'm spoiled I think. Especially given the economy. I think my company really wanted me, which makes sense because I'm high-end talent ;-)
