Quarterback:

In his first six games as a collegian, it's hard to find too many glaring issues and faults when examining redshirt freshman quarterback Marcus Mariota. Sure, at times he hasn't demonstrated the best ball security and has forced some passes that have consequently led to a fair share of interceptions, but at worst, Mariota has picked up where Darron Thomas left off last year before Thomas bolted for the NFL. His debut versus Arkansas State portended great things and his most recent outing against rival Washington has many firmly believing the precocious Hawaiian has what it takes to elevate Oregon to national championship status. Currently, Mariota leads the Pac-12 in completion percentage (67.9), tied for the lead with USC's Matt Barkley in touchdown passes (15), and is second behind Arizona State's Taylor Kelly in pass efficiency (156.43). Maintaining these types of numbers doesn't figure to be easy as the Ducks and Mariota face the meat of their schedule over the final six weeks of the regular season, however if his torrid start is any indication, Mariota will be up to the challenge.

Midseason position MVP: Marcus Mariota
Midseason position grade: B+

Mariota's statistics:
Passing:
114 of 168 (67.9%) for 1,301 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions with a pass efficiency rating of 156.43.

Rushing:
43 carries for 221 yards and one touchdown.

I'd give him a C+. They're basing it on stats alone.

There must be some Sh*tty QB's in the Pac 12 if a C+ is so high up in the Conference rankings.

If I'm looking at stats alone, I'd probably give an A- as well. But I actually watch him play (and I have) and seen the typical freshman mistakes and numerous botched handoff attempts... I'd give him a C+. Maybe a B-, how's that. But c'mon, he's gonna be great and the team is doing well.....
