If your guns we're locked up as required in that law then you are fine. If you leave on vacation with guns laying around your house then you really shouldn't be a gun owner.
I understand that....my contention is that even a locked up gun can be stolen..people can crack a safe..I'm all for gun safety legislation...I just see how this part of the proposal could be used against an innocent person who happens to have a gun that's stolen and they could be in a situation that discovery doesn't happen within 24hours...and be arrested for something they didn't do or contribute to. My example before was a law enforcement person confiscating a gun from your house in order to frame you...say you are a witness to a case against the police...for gun control to work it has to be a broad redefinition of gun ownership. It's a start but that clause in the law made me think of how it could be used to frame someone.

They need to add that you have to keep bullets that explode in your face in the guns when you're not using them. That way when a bad guy uses it they get hurt.

I had a gun stolen by a "friend" that was visiting. Did not realize the gun was missing for about a month (had it hidden and did not check it daily).

There are about 500,000 guns stolen every year in the USA.

Sounds like you've identified a problem. Wouldn't it help to keep the guns locked up?

People can, but how many people really do? Most thieves are pretty lazy.

I'm more worried about those "deep state" agents and corrupt cops than thieves.....I've watched a lot of movies over the years..

gunowners can be pretty lazy too. ….I'm going to climb up on that rock ledge and get that elk I just shot....ok, got him.....hey! where's my gun...I just sat it down there by the cooler?

Bad move, that elk might have a gun himself, and he's pissed now.

The Oregon Supreme Court on Monday certified the ballot title for an initiative that would require gun owners to store the weapons with trigger locks, cables or in a locked container.

<blah blah>

-- Hillary Borrud

The article reports this news: A judge rejected a new ballot title and will keep the old title.

The article doesn't say what those titles are! Badly written.

My assessment of this bill is, that it is intended to cause the gun owners grief when ever a weapon is stolen, used in a crime and recovered. It does nothing to help apprehend the thief. It does nothing to help catch the perpetrator of the crime. It does ease the burden of law enforcement to find someone to punish, the registered owner of the weapon. The liberals can feel good in two ways then;
Come down hard on a gun owner, is good for the cause.
No need to make life more difficult for some poor drug addict thief/ criminal, hounding him to the ends of the earth. Getting a fucking gun owner is good enough.

After all if we get rid of Guns the mission is accomplished. It does nothing for the cause to chase down poor unfortunate souls just doing what they must to get by.

I think if you show the cops your cracked safe then everything will be fine.

As far as your repeated example, if you really have done something that bad to piss off a cop that much to actually work that hard to frame you then.... MOVE!

Seriously move.

Cops aren't going to frame a semi-retired white dude unless you've done something to bring it on.

seriously? I take it you are really sold on this law......I might even vote for it...this part seemed to be a red flag so I explored the possibilities....you trust police tactics more than me...probably a good thing for you...if a vote doesn't follow your support, then those voters should move eh? Funny I didn't really think of myself in the scenario I brought up....maybe you'd just like me to move

It wonder what the size of the container that you lock the guns in must be?

I have not read the bill. I like guns a lot, own some, but I believe that only I should own them, Muhahahaha.

No I don't want you to move.

You came up with a rather, IMO, elaborate scenario about cops committing multiple crimes in an effort just to get you. If that is truly a concern of yours then yes, you shouldn't probably move.

At least as big as the gun would be my guess. Smaller than the gun really wouldn't do much.

You mean you don't have a safe?
How about a locked car? Locked boat? No, no safe no intention of getting one. Certainly not in the boat.

Is this lock up intended to secure the guns within any area the owner has them? Is this then more or less intended to impede the access to the arms more than secure them?

I don't care if it is law or not, NEVER KEEP A GUN IN A LOCKED CAR.

Can you even lock a boat?

Yes. But I don't have any idea what the requirement are here. If you support this you do, right?

Yes, I support boats being able to be locked. I also support them being unsinkable.

you has another connotation that's all inclusive....any Oregonians could be "you" in this case....

Why wouldn't the cop just return and plant the gun in your house after he took it and killed a dude? This law passing or not passing doesn't really make much of a difference in your scenario.

I originally wondered about traffic stops....reasons to fuck with people who had permits to carry guns or hunters, etc...if the laws pass as I understand them in this proposal....I'll not keep my two rifles anymore....I'll get a compound bow instead.

What's to prevent cops from breaking into your house, stealing your bow, killing someone, then "finding" it with your fingerprints still on it and charging you with murder?

Better get one of these just to be safe.

It seems like the idea is to keep them from kids and thieves but the obvious outcome is that it would keep you from getting it quickly if you need it for self defense.
