Apparently a state congressional representative from Klamath county has introduced a bill to "urge the Portland Trail Blazers organization to change their name to the Oregon Trail Blazers".

Ummm......

It sounds stupid on the surface, and politicians should keep their noses out of sports, but name-wise it actually makes a lot more sense. Sounds weird, though.

Yeesh.
The scary thing is, with a new ownership group looking for returns on their investment, they might just wanna do something silly like this in an attempt to grab those rural dollars.

another sign of socialism! anytime you get the mass to consolidate in doing something one way, watch out gov control to major tongue! lol

Let's find out how many tickets are sold in Portland metro and how many tickets are sold outside of the urban growth boundary.

Totally because then we'd be named after the food stamp card. That rep must be a damn liberal or a hypocritical conservative!

I don't think those "rural" dollars are really a big enough to go through the massive changes they'd have to do to adjust to Oregon instead of Portland. Not only re-doing the court, but all the media for the team (print, etc) and new uniforms.

Plus, while they would make new $$ from the fans who just have to have new unis, shirts etc, I think their (MUCH) bigger concern would be how to please the local fans in the area. Over a 3rd of Oregons population lives in Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties, and that number bumps to over half if you count Lane and Marion counties.

The Oregon Trail...Cards?

Precisely. "The Portland Trail" never really grew legs.

Well. There was the "Barlow Trail" which started in Wasco County wrapped around Mt. Hood and then went past the Sandy River and dumped off in Oregon City. That's pretty close to Portland but I don't know if enough settlers took it that ended up being identified with Portland. Oregon City is more associated with the Oregon Trail anyway.

This literally has nothing to do with socialism... LOL

What if the incentive is a tax break? What then?

The congressman from Klamath Falls just can't attract free agents down there..nice try

Why not go for the gusto, and rename the team the United States Trail Blazers?
Global Trail Blazers?
Universal Trail Blazers?
