Wildfires are an age-old, often completely natural event and are actually necessary for forest sustainability. Of course, this one was started by a couple of insolent pyromaniac fucktards and it sucks to see it impacting so many people, but the point remains that there always have been and always will be wildfires. And like with any other singular event, connecting it back to climate change is both ignorant and scientifically unsound.
 
I'm following this fire from CA and boggled by the intensity. Hope everyone and their loved ones stay safe.

Thank you. I probably responded a bit harshly. Sorry for that. I literally have family that:

Evacuated Houston only to evacuate the place he went to which were my other cousins.

Evacuated Cascade locks and N. Bonneville (We still have yet to hear from my Ex-wife's Brother who was in Cascade locks. He isn't answering).

Live in the path of that fucking Bitch Irma...

I also have a funeral to go to on Thursday. My God Brother just died of Brain Cancer.

That said, I'm healthy and prospering, and my son is transferring to a way better school. His family (on both sides) are having lots of trouble where they live.
 
On a positive note i'm glad I bought extra home insurance this time.

Today the weather only made it worse, apparently with the weather we have coming tomorrow and Thursday it's supposed to help but I have no idea how the process works on the ground

There will actually be some rain coming up by the end of this week. Not a lot, but hopefully enough to knock it back. Also a switch to west winds by Thursday, which will allow it to burn back in over itself and cease spreading. The worst should definitely be over by Thursday.

I'm just hoping the beauty of some of our gems are preserved. I feel like that's just being naive though :( I'm so depressed over this...
 
I was always grateful for the rain our area gets because of how beautiful it makes our land... I have no family in danger or anything, and I still feel pained to the core...
 
Coming from a country that is well used to bushfires, my thoughts are with you, and your loved ones. Please stay safe, get out, and get out early. You don't want to be stuck on the road when the fire passes. Property, and vegetation can be replaced, lives can't. Due to a warm, wet winter here (thus lots of undergrowth/fuel), we are expecting a terrible bushfire season this summer.

Yeah man. Could be worse. I'm pissed. I've lived in Troutdale and East County my entire life (other than Corvallis while going to school). I have my bags packed and am waiting to hear the word. That's terrifying.

It would suck seeing my house burn. But insurance will build me one back up.

The saddest part is seeing the town possibly torn up.

Two fire trucks staged to fight the Chetco Bar Fire were ransacked while firefighters slept nearby in Brookings early Saturday morning.

Coburg Fire Chief Chad Minter, chief of the Lane County Fire Defense Board, told The Register-Guard that a task force comprised of firefighters from Coburg, Junction City, Lane Fire Authority, South Lane Fire and Mohawk Fire drove over 230 miles to Brookings from Lane County on Friday night.


The crews arrived around midnight and parked at the Brookings-Harbor High School to get some sleep before the morning's briefing at 5:30 a.m. But when they woke up, around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, they found two trucks were missing equipment, in an oxygen tank, a firefighter's bag, a flat-headed axe and a firefighter jacket.

My father just texted me. recommended evacuation starts at 257th and Stark in Gresham. This thing is moving WAY fast. MY father is on 165th.
