Blazers need to get better, not just make a trade.

If we haven't seen the very best the starters have to give, I think we have come close. How far this team can go as it is is an unknown. I think bolstering the bench can only help where they are headed.

For the record, I think the starters are good enough to win it all with the right kind of support. I've seen enough of these guys to this point to come away with the idea that they are pretty good

Nic's hit a few big threes this year. I can think of one specifically late in the game to force OT in a game the Blazers won. Do you watch the games?
Yes, I watch every game. Have done so for many years. Do you watch any basketball at all? Can't tell from your oft ill informed posts. And why do you have to insult another poster instead of backing up your argument with facts?

There are no assists after a player takes a few dribbles in the post. It's a strict one-dribble rule for a fast break, and low post assists are even more difficult.

Where are those rules defined? The WSJ actually did an article on how subjective they are. http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB123855027541776617

Click on Batum's assists, his 2nd assist was an pass to LA. LA, dribbled, and did a spin move for a fade away jumper. That's just one example of how assists don't necessarily mean that you've create an opportunity for your team mate. If you go through and look at more samples of Batum's assists, you'll see that most of them are perimeter passes. There's a difference between an assist that creates an easy opportunity for your team-mate and an relatively easy pass that your teammate happens to convert into points.

Batum:

Deng:

Not surprising. I have been saying that Deng is the better scorer.

Do those stats actually representing who Batum was guarding, or who the opposing starting SF is? It could be misleading since Batum has probably played tough competition.

Seriously? Some of you think this is remotely possible? Wow.

I could see us maybe making a trade.... but this isn't it.

I guess if you want a trade idea to go viral here you post it on oregonlive first.

Didn't Heinrich guard the pt guards exclusively though?

Hinrich is old and gets lit up regularly. Deng got switched onto Hinrich's man much of the time.

Deng certainly drew the toughest assignment among the wings.

Why is this thread 9 pages? It doesn't even make sense Batum for Deng

Because people love to talk about a trade rumor.

How do you think sites like Hoopshype, Hoopsworld. ESPN Insider, and RealGM got started?

Batum has chemistry with our current team. As you said, Batum has higher ceiling. Deng is FA this summer. And Deng did nothing to improve Cavaliers.

Moreover, the Bulls have been better without him. Nic is younger, under contract for longer, has a higher ceiling. I'll pass.

Hell, I think Nic is better for our team now than Deng could be. Nic is possibly our best play maker. And he's our best defender against PGs-- this will be invaluable in the playoffs when we will be matched up against guys like Dragic/Curry/Paul/ Parker/Westbrook/Conley. Deng is a good man-man defender but he cannot keep up with quick guards like Nic can. Ya he gets boneheaded turnovers, but I like that he looks to get others involved. Haven't we all seen how much the team struggles when he does? He's damn near irreplaceable.
